Almost felt a bit rushed. Attention to detail was lacking, especially when I was presented with another tables bill. Food presentation was so so, a bit homey like I would do at home. I guess my expectations we set too high for this special occasion.
L'Auberge is hands down my favorite rest ...
L'Auberge is hands down my favorite restaurant in the greater DC area. I had been there several times for lunch, but never for dinner. The sommelier offered our assistance as soon as we started perusing the wine menu. He gave us honest feedback about the wine we selected, recommended several others, and we thoroughly enjoyed the bottle we got based on his recommendation. Incidentally, it was less expensive than the original bottle we selected which I found quite admirable. The food selection is amazing and everything I have eaten there is delicious! A few of my favorites are: the bouillabaisse (you can have it as a meal or appetizer), La coquille de crustacés (appetizer), the Roquefort salad (well worth the upcharge if you like Roquefort), and the La matelote de poissons et crustaçés. I only eat fish and seafood, but my dining companions have also enjoyed the meat dishes. I've visited during the Winter where I sat in front of a huge fireplace while enjoying my Bouillabaisse, and during the Spring/Summer where I enjoyed sitting in their beautiful outside area. The staff all provide exceptional service. The brasserie downstairs was quite busy on a Saturday night, which made parking a little more challenging. This restaurant reminds me a lot of The Inn at Little Washington, with the convenience of it being much closer.

Having no idea what to expect, I walked in and overall was blown away by the entire experience. The restaurant is cute and traditional upon entering. Our server, Sammy, was wonderful. He let us relax, never rushed us, provided excellent recommendations, and was very friendly. The escargot and lobster main dish were fantastic, as was pretty much everything. It's not somewhere I'd go for a casual, cheap meal, but for special occasions it is worth the splurge.

Just wonderful. Had a great date night with my husband - menu was yummy - so tough to make decisions! The chef's little "extras" made it all the more wonderful. Our favorites were the crepes, veal/ham/crab thingie, frog's legs and raspberry souffle. Service was very attentive without being over-bearing, proper but not stuffy. Looking forward to our next visit!

Always a wonderful place for a celebration. Excellent Alsacian/French food. Couldn't have been a better experience. Come hungry and with enough time to linger over dinner. The dark chocolate tart is an amazing dessert, but everything was delicious.

Thoroughly enjoyed our very delicious meal celebrating 2 birthdays last Saturday evening. Everything about the meal and service was extraordinary and the ambiance and setting were beautiful. We hope to return there on our next visit to Northern Virginia

We've been going to L'Auberge for decades. We were some what disappointed during our last visit( with family in tow) because of a drop off in quality of food. We discussed our concerns with the owner who had heard of our complaints. He encouraged us to come back and try again. We were glad we did. Our experience was wonderful and the food was superb. They will see us again.

One of the best restaurants in the area. Wonderful French food, friendly & attentive staff, and the cutest location & building in the area (wooded chateau, stained glass, wood, nice patio area...). Expensive, but worth it.

Loved all the food. Very delicious. Glad you can order ala carte as well as from fixed price menu. Only criticism is that were not able to split our dishes in the kitchen. This makes the dining experience much more elegant loved it all. Thanks Martha Zier

Have been to L'Auberge Chez Francois many times in the 30+ years I've lived in the Wash DC area. Can't say that it has changed much in that time. Still get reliable, high quality food & service; not inventive dishes nor surprises. Always get a chocolate soufflé to end the meal. Return just occasionally now for those special times. The drive is a little longer and price-value just good.

I leave Chez Francois feeling full, happy, and overall better about the world. The food is beautifully prepared and presented. There aren't huge changes in the menu over time, but the classics - and some new additions - are executed perfectly. The service is first class - attentive without being intrusive or obsequious. The waitstaff truly seem to care that you have a special time. My lobster in Sauternes sauce was lovely; my husband's soft shell crabs were enormous and delicious. The sauces are across-the-board delicious and deserve to be sopped up with the good French rolls and devoured. Such a lovely evening.

Have been enjoying this restaurant since 1963 when I was 15 and it was a bistro near the White House in downtown DC. It has always been my favorite place for celebrations and whenever I want a classic French dining experience.
