My two sons and I took my wife to L'Auberge Chez Francois for her birthday. What a treat! The boys had never been, but they will be back. Wife and one son had the duck, I had the beef, lamb, shrimp combo and other son had the sausage dish. All excellent and all plates were cleaned. This is the best restaurant in the DC area, and we have been to the other top contenders.
L'Auberge Chez Francois has always been ...
L'Auberge Chez Francois has always been a favorite of ours. Whether for Lunch, Dinner or an event, we have never been disappointed. On this visit, there were four diners. We actually brought a couple bottles of a rare wine and ordered a bottle of Mersault. Appetizers included Snails from Burgundy, lobster bisque and some nice salads. Entrees included the Chef's Beef Wellington (Magnificent), a couple of the Dover Sole entrees, again really fantastic and served in a fall winter light sauce and another meat dish. Our waiter was fabulous as was the food. Another great experience and we all would highly recommend this wonderful Alsatian restaurant. Compliments to the Chef(s) and staff.

Food was very good for carnivors and the portions were right for eating without leftovers. Service and ambiance were excellent. We had not been here for years (for the reason below) and went for lunch in the main restaurant. The food was every bit as tasty and a little lighter than before--a good thing. The only reason this was not an outstanding experience overall is that the offering (singular) for a vegetarian (we did not take our daughter for this reason) was inadequate. This is not appropriate in this metropolitan area where plenty of restaurants offer several entree options for vegetarians.

L'Auberge Chez Francoise lived up to its storied and longstanding exquisite dining history. We arrived early and were quickly seated and settled into outstanding service and an amazing 6 course meal. Expensive dinner for two...and worth every penny. Thank you!

I like the atmosphere of this restaurant. I also love the food because my grandparents and my dad were from the Alsace region from which this restaurant takes it's inspiration. The decor, the plates and the cuisine reminds me of my sunday lunches at my grandma's house. It is inviting, warm, and a lovely place to have a family dine or lunch in an intimate place.

I was not feeling well at the end of our meal and went to the restroom. My wife was concerned
and told the waiter. He offered to check the restroom which he did and I told him I was ok. He assured my wife I was ok and offered to box our deserts.
The was well prepared and the service and attention was superb.

The service was impeccable but the food left a lot to be desired. My duck arrived cold and extremely fatty. The Cesar salad had anchovies when I ordered without. Also, we were to take dessert home, but the waiter never brought it out to us.
All in all, not worth the 45 minute drive and $300 price tag. There are too many other restaurants to choose from.

David was a fantastic waiter, providing prompt courteous service with interesting factoids about the cuisine, drink, and overall restaurant's history. He and the rest of the very attentive staff made our 33rd anniversary extra special.

I decided to celebrate my birthday with my family at this restaurant because it was one of my favorite French restaurant. My mother and I ordered one of their seafood courses and we both end up getting sick for two days. My husband called the restaurant and was told that the manager will return his call, but we never received a phone call back and the person on the phone didn't seem to be too concern. I am truly disappointed because I've been here multiple times and have always had a great experience, but I don't intend to go back to this place after this incident and doesn't seem like the manager cares.

L'Auberge Chez Francois has been a family favorite for years. We go there once a year for a birthday dinner. Service is always impeccable and food is delicious. The only drawback we have run into recently is that we now have a vegetarian in the family, and there is only one vegetarian entree on the menu. But they offer the option of a-la-carte dining, so with two vegetarian appetizers plus a few salad options, phenomenal garlic bread, and a large variety of desserts, even a vegetarian can enjoy the occasion.

Food is delicious...and quantities were surprisingly good. The "pressure" of a prix-fixe menu was not good. We would like to have been able to sample just what we wanted and not be overwhelmed by so much food. Perhaps there is another time when a la carte is available.

We took my husband's sister from out of town for a special dinner. Everyone was very pleased with their choices. The waiter was knowledgeable without being imposing and gave excellent suggestions when asked. All in all, it was a wonderful evening: great food, nice atmosphere, wonderful company.

L' Auberge never disappoints. I remember coming here as a child and now I take my children here. It is a special location with impeccable service and food that allows one to escape the hectic daily life to relax with friends.

We have been enjoying great meals here for over 20 years. The original owner died and the restaurant was taken over by his son. This has worked very well in this case and we will be going back many more times. We had an anniversary lunch there and the new lunch format is excellent. Many old favorites are still there and some new excellent items have been added, The setting on a nice fall day also adds to the pleasure of going there. It really is out in the country.

After several decades, l'Auberge Chez Francois continues to offer beautifully prepared and presented dishes of authentic Alsatian French cuisine. Its rural Great Falls setting is pleasant and accessible. The serving staff were accommodating, excellent at explaining choices and preparation, and efficient, and the multi-course Sunday mid-day menu offerings presented a wonderful array of tough decisions. The cost was, as expected, too high to make this a regular visit but was well warranted by the quality of the food and service. The wines were good but priced as if they were better, but one has to expect that as well. My only complaint was that I looked at my watch when the second course, the salad, was being served and realized that we had already spent two hours in good conversation and that I had a time constraint that required me to leave in 40 minutes. It was my fault for not informing the wait staff, and to their credit that they did not try to hurry us along, but it left me in the position of wolfing down my entree and leaving without the dessert that was included in the prix-fixe menu. Fortunately my family and the friends we were hosting were not forced to miss out on that crowning course. I would definitely go again.

L'Auberge Chez Francois lives up to its five star reputation. I would recommend it, without any hesitation, for anyone who wants a great meal in a wonderful setting, without a lot of disturbing noise. It is well worth the drive.

Food is always of exceptional quality using fresh vegetables grown on the property. The presentation, service and overall atmosphere is of the highest level, regardless the number of times we have dined at this wonderful restaurant. The entire staff is extremely friendly and attentive with an attention to every detail. What a gem!

Food, ambiance, service - all exceptional! The entire staff is tops in every way and provides expert service – all very professional and courteous. Our server, Besheer, was particularly outstanding and attentive to every detail. Love the charming atmosphere and beautiful setting. Food is fabulous, and the prixe-fixed menu is an excellent value. L’Auberge Chez Francois is our favorite place for special gatherings.

This is not a place to go for "a quick bite". Think being waited on, almost as in a movie. There's a calm deliberate place set for an outstanding experience. I last ate here 20 years ago as I've been far from this area. It was with sone trepidation that I came for dinner as my memories were of fabulous food cooked to perfection. I was not disappointed! It was no longer an older woman checking on her guests, but the grandson!
The menu is pretty much as I remember this time of year and the game dish was delicious; venison and quail with wild rice, a chestnut and many other seasonal vegitables.
Go for a special occasion and you won't be disappointed.
