Overall had the best time there. Food was amazing, decor was fabulous and it was just a great place to grab a little to eat and have a nice convo: only two things set me off. 1. The waiter dropped our bowl of plantains which wasn't all that bad cause they were complimentary and 2. The waiter got very impatient when we didn't give him his tip right away by once again overall a very great place to eat

Loved this place! It was a restaurant that was a little bit pricier and had high reviews -- but actually came through and was worth it! The portions we received were HUGE and so flavorful. The menu was very unique to the cuisine and had items on it that I had never heard of before. I definitely want to go back for another special occasion.

I simply cannot say enough good things about La Mar. It is (and has been for several years) my favorite restaurant for any occasion that calls for a celebration.
The dining room design makes it feel both grand and intimate at the same time; the attentive staff (whether the hostess, the table's server, or the buzz and water boys) are all amazingly professional and pleasant; the menu never ever is dull or predictable and always interesting; the food is clearly prepared with great attention and passion -- the plates look amazing and the looks are certainly matched by the taste.
I cannot wait to have something to celebrate soon again!

First trip here , recommendation from a bartender earlier in the day. There were 4 of us and we all enjoyed the way food was served for all to share. The variety was good, the ceviche was excellent. We enjoyed several other dishes as well as dessert. The prices were on the higher side, empanadas were $13-14 for 2....but they were very tasty. Great place for a dinner when you are looking for something different!

With it's waterfront location, La Mar was a pleasant change from the touristy offerings at the nearby ferry building. The Peruvian stye food is fresh and delicious, and the plantain chips offered instead of the usual breadbasket were a wonderful change of pace.

Terrific waterfront location - food good but the service was rushed and not attentive to guest needs as menu requires some explaination. General feeling of a push in and a push out yet the tab was over $200 so there should be a far better fine dining experience.

Impressive service. I never have had Peruvian fare before. The waiter took the time to learn about our food and dining interests then made some great recommendations. My date and I really enjoyed the Cebiche Clasico and Cebiche Criollo. We had several small seafood dishes and enjoyed the spicy fresh flavors. The location on the waterfront is perfect and atmosphere seemed active but not overly so. My date and I have already booked a second visit!

My family and I (a 14 year old and 12 year) and husband went for my birthday dinner. We were given a table "outside" which is covered and warm. However, as it was a Saturday night, there was a loud, somewhat rowdy adult cocktail party right next to us which made conversation impossible. There were many other dinners in that area as well, and our servers apologized, but it definitely detracted from the overall experience.
The Good: the food was inventive and extremely tasty. We sampled a few items; a cebiches, empanadas, a ahi salad and a beef skewer. The cocktail special, a Prickly Pear, was great.
Just negative on the noise. Would return for the food and hopefully a better location.

This was my 3rd or 4th visit to La Mar and I have to say I was disappointed this time after previous good visits. Our server whispered at us even though I shared that I couldn't hear a word she was saying over the room noise. Empanadas were served cold, skewers had little flavor, cocktails were weak. Room noise is ridiculous. Price for quality/quantity is too high.

Food was above average, but beer list was limited, and wines by the glass a little overpriced for the brands offered. Also, for a 'seafood oriented ' restaurant, surprisingly few straightforward fish dishes were offered, and those that were were drowned in sauce. I guess some patrons think that is the Peruvian way.

the waiter and food runner were excellent, my only problem was with the busser without asking he pulled off my coffee and my friends beer I had 1/4 cup he take it off taking it from the top my friend also had beer in his bottle and also without asking he pulled the bottle from the table, I work in restaurant and that is not the way to serve people.

Service was very slow. We haven't seen the waiter after he took our order. Had to get the check asking around other workers. Couldn't get more drinks because no one came back to check on us. Food also came very late.

I've always enjoyed going to La Mar as they provide a great culinary experience. Firstly, the cocktail menu is small and excellent! Any drink you pick will give you different flavors and experiences. The Jalapeño one is really good.
Enough cannot be said about the Ceviche. Its some of the finest I've ever had, and the different flavors for the different types are really great. I'd recommend getting the platter so you can try multiple.
The empanadas are really great too! Again a sampler is the way to go to try different flavors.
For main course, again there are limited options which is great because you don't have to scan too much. I've had the lamb and the pork rice and both were great! The grilled meats are really great as well and serve as good food compliments.
The service here is really great too! The hosts are very friendly and very willing to answer any questions as well as offer their recommendations. The Bay Bridge views from the outdoor patio are on point as well, esp on a nice hot SF summer day.
La Mar is always on the top of my list for a great dining experience!

Just like in Lima! But priced way more. Still, it's a good choice for cerbiche. And nowhere else can you get causa like you can here.
Service was slow on a busy Saturday night. For what we paid, we expected better.
