Joseph's Steakhouse of Iowa City Ratings and Reviews
I had an excellent experience at Joseph's. The food was excellent, the waitress was excellent, the atmosphere was excellent. I went there with my sister for a celebration and was very satisfied with the menu and drink selection. The Oatmeal Pie and Grasshopper cocktail are noteworthy desserts.
Joseph's was a pleasant surprise. Not only did we have great food we had the best service ever! Peter was very attentive to our needs and fulfilled all of our requests. The French Onion soup was amazing and the Lobster Mac and Cheese was excellent. So glad we found Joseph's on Open Table while visiting Iowa City for a night.
It wasnt as i expected. It doesnt seem like someone read the note i left when i reserved. It was my husbands 40th bthday, i wanted a special table and maybe a special dessert to make him feel special. The waiter didnt even know what we were celebrating and didnt offer anything beyond expectations and we had a regular table as if we needed no reservation.
Our lobster tails were paper thin and stringy. Our waiter did not disclose our salads were an upgrade and did not offer the choice of soup or salad to one in our party after he ordered a bake potato. Leaving all of us w the impression that it would be in replace of the soup or salad. I had given advance notice on bday guest. Waiter brings a dinky candle on a saucer! Wow. That's not classy. We were looking for fine dining. My husband is terminally ill and we were celebrating his 70th bday. It was a struggle to get him out for a dining experience and we were left wanting so much more. Our friends felt the same. We did not complain while we were there as we did not want to disrupt the other guests.
The reservation time was honored-no waiting! The food was reasonably priced and very good. It was on the quiet side but was fine for our group. Service was excellent and pleasant. I did not care for the margarita I ordered. It was a little bitter tasting and seemed strong. I would recommend this restaurant to my friends.
My filet, which I ordered medium rare, came out as medium; however, it was so tasty I could not complain. An excellent cut of meat. Be sure to try the Boursin potatoes as a side dish. And while I personally like and enjoy Brussels sprouts, the saved sprouts lose something in the translation.
We enjoyed our dinner, celebrating my wife's birthday. Joseph's is a restaurant we can count on for outstanding service, food, wine and cocktails. For a change I had the braised short ribs; they were delicious and falling off the bone. Another successful dinner.
Visited Joseph's for our anniversary. Our server was very attentive and the food was excellent. I had the chopped salad and my spouse had the french onion soup, the best ever. The scallops were exceptional and the ribeye delicious. Very nice restaurant and one of our favorites in Iowa City.
Although the food was ok, it was too loud and we couldn't hear each other talk. We had a large party next to us and a party of 2 on the other side. It had the right atmosphere but way too loud. Also, the waiter was too much of a salesman and my guests were put off by it. He kept trying to upsell.
My filet was ok, but I have had tastier filets at other steakhouses for less price. We ordered two sides to share. The mashed potatoes lacked flavor but the spinach and mushroom was very tasty however too loaded in butter.
We also ordered dessert, the creme brulee sampler. The mocha was very good and flavorful but the raspberry was too tart. Also the sugar crust was barely there.
I loved the decor and unassuming entrance. You could easily miss it. It was ok but we will try other steakhouses before heading back to Joseph's
Whenever we visit Iowa City we are sure to go to Josephs. Excellent steaks, the best seafood bisque we've had and outstanding service. The only downside on this trip were that the pre-dinner old fashions were missing the bourbon cherry/burnt orange peel garnish. Maybe the bartender was new?
