An extremely disappointing experience last night 4/25 from this well-reviewed Joseph Tambellini restaurant – disgraces the proud legacy of Tambellini-named restaurants in Pittsburgh. Briefly: my wife, another couple and me. I ordered veal chop. Arrived under-cooked and mostly fat. Worked at it a while trying to find veal. All agreed it was unacceptable and waiter agreed it was undercooked and that additional cooking might reduce fat content. Although skeptical, to be polite, I agreed they give it a try. Dish returned after others finished their dinner. Still mostly fat and after cutting extensively to find bits of veal, gave up and returned plate with chunks of fat to waitstaff stating it was a failed meal. Almost $300 bill included $55 for veal chop absent even the minimal offer of complementary dessert (which we had no interest in). Asked Matre’d to address and after strange long wait he returned with dish showing they found 3 more slivers of veal hidden amongst the fat. Insulting and disgusting. Again, asked him to make an appropriate adjustment -- after another wait received new bill with an $8 reduction. Pitiful. They join a very short list of never-again restaurants. This is 1st negative restaurant review I have written—hope it to be the last.
Joseph’s is the best restaurant in Pittsburgh!!! Every time, Joseph exceeds our expectations.
Excellent!
Outstanding service and excellent food!
Always a lovely dinner in elegant surroundings. A neighborhood restaurant.
The meal was great. I have eaten here several times and have not been disappointed. One of my favorite restaurants !
First time here. Had eaten Chef Joseph’s food for years at his previous places. His touch makes the difference. Outstanding !
Very good service. Food was prepared and presented well. Wish server would have included prices with descriptions of specials.
In town visiting a friend for the weekend and Joseph Tambellini’s is a must! The Greens and beans- AMAZING! And the seafood Melissa was delicious. Unfortunately, we didn’t save any room for dessert even though there were about 5 desserts we wanted! Can’t wait to go back again the next time I’m in town!
My wife and I received a gift-certificate as a Christmas gift to the Joseph Tambellini Restaurant and got a chance to use it last Friday. We arrived early for our reservation time but were seated immediately in the first-floor dining room. We started out with two cocktails and an appetizer of zucchini slices, which were followed by our salads. Our server, Stephen, was pleasant and attentive but not intrusive. He had been trained quite well to match the quality of the restaurant. The courses of food were served at a leisurely pace, like we had experience while in Italy a few years ago. After giving us sufficient time to enjoy our salads and have a quiet conversation, the main course was presented. I had selected Veal Romano, while my wife chose the Parmesan-crusted Pork Chop. We both laughed at the size of her meal, which was cooked to perfection. There was plenty to eat now and to also enjoy later at home. We left that evening happy that we had finally gotten to this enjoy a delicious meal at the restaurant and were planning what we might try the next time we dined there. A bit pricey, but very much worth it!
As always, Tambellini's comes through with excellent food and excellent service. A lovely Highland Park neighborhood gem.
I would not recommend this restaurant anymore. The 3 small bottles of Mum champagne were excellent. We used to like the restaurant but on Easter we had mixed results. The sautéed calamari was partly chewy which means it was partly overcooked. The salads were delicious. They charged $2.50 each for the optional cheese on the salad. My chicken picatta had a delicious sauce but the chicken fillets were hard and overcooked, almost shoe leather. The part I objected to most was that the waitress said the pasta, and a soup or salad, was included with the entrée price. However, they charged me $5.50 for a serving of very ordinary gluten free pasta with ordinary red sauce which I can easily make at home just because I needed it to be gluten free. She did not tell me there was an extra charge. I would have skipped it if I had known. This is not a choice for me but a dietary necessity. We did not eat dessert as I am tired of only being offered ice cream or crème brulee for gluten free options. There are many, many options out there and people would not even know the desserts were gluten free if the chefs were not so lazy. I make wonderful, delicious gluten free desserts at home. Why can't they? For $160 plus tip we deserved better.

Excellent food and service.highly recommend to anyone looking for a great dining experience .
Great food and equally great service
Always an enjoyable experience
Joseph Tambellini's became our favorite Pittsburgh restaurant years ago. Quite simply, people go to a restaurant for the food and Tambellini's has been top notch every time we are there - from their everyday menu to their daily specials...excellent fresh ingredients, homemade dishes with that extra special touch. We have probably tried almost every dish on the menu and they never disappoint. We are partial to having Adam as our server, but know that all the employees are friendly, responsive and knowledgeable. We highly recommend this Highland Park gem.
The food was delicious, with such appealing daily specials that it was difficult to decide between our regular favorites and something new. The service was beyond outstanding! As always, most of us took leftovers home because the portions are generous it was all too good to leave behind! This is one place that never disappoints!
enjoyed the Tuscan wine that was on special The flounder special was also fantastic
Wonderful food, extraordinary waiter named Adam, cleanliness outstanding!
Always enjoy it, it’s our favorite place! The owners are very nice people, food is always delicious and the best servers especially Adam!
Not bad , not great.... service was pretty good but food was mediocre and overpriced for what you get
Service was exceptional. The food outstanding. Having lived in Chicago, Allen Brothers meats are always the best.
From the Time we walk in to the time we left everything was amazing.. the server was very helpful and the dinners she recommended we’re very good. Thank you for everything.
Best Italian Restaurant in the city! Fantastic service! The waitress was friendly yet professional. The food is to die for. Exquisitely deliciousness. I lived in Highland Park for approximately 60 years and Joseph Tambellini ‘s is by far the best restaurant to grace the park. Even though it is not near us now, we travel the distance to indulge ourselves with such a delectable feast!
This restaurant never disappoints. One of Pittsburgh's treasures.
The food was excellent; the service superb! Adam is impeccably professional and makes the experience worth it all. You can tell that Adam loves his job and because of this, the dinner is even more fantastic!
Off the chain good!
First visit this past weekend. Excellent food, excellent service!
Friendly and attentive staff. Victoria salad was delicious. Glad I saved room for the Lava Cake dessert.
The food and the service is just great every time we go just love it
Amazing time this Valentine's day at Joseph Tambellini. All the food was cooked to perfection and our waitress was very sweet. Will deffinatley be back in the future!
The food was excellent. The service was perfect. The atmosphere warm and welcoming.
Food and establishment was excellent, but the special menu for Valentine's Day had prices above he normal based on the online menu and was more limited. Had sign on door that limited time at table due to Valentine's Day. This was a turn off. Also, was called in advance to confirm, and told if I had not returned the call, they would have cancelled by reservation. A bit unusual. Did reservation online on Open Table and had a reminder from Open Table of the reservation. Thought that was all I needed to so.
My all time favorite. It's like going to your brothers house for dinner. Joe & Melissa are great down to earth people who will do anything within reason to make your dinner night enjoyable
