First time at JVs, (for Mother’s Day). Food was good and the atmosphere was great. Have walked & driven past here for months. Will definitely come back for dinner and drinks.
My Family visited for Mother's Day Brunch and the experience was disappointing at best. Positives: Enjoyed the indoor/outdoor atmosphere. It wasn't too crowded. Negatives: The food quality and offerings felt like they only wanted to maximize profit. Bacon was thin and crumbly. Mac & Cheese was room temperature. Selection of non-breakfast items was small. Brunch started at noon and by 12:30 a number of items had been taken away or run out. Service was inconsistent. Some staff were chatting around one of the stations and we felt like we were inconveniencing them by being there. Tables were placed so closely together that it was difficult to get by without disturbing other parties.
The service we received was terrible. It was mothers day and the staff didn't seem to have any idea what the offerings were. It turned out that they had a mothers day buffet brunch but we weren't told anything of it when we arrived (with a reservation) and were seated. Our waiter was terrible, never brought refills, had to ask multiple times (three times for a box!) and they weren't even busy! It would've been understandable if they were swamped but there were more empty tables than not. Would not recommend, will not go back.
Atmosphere is good. Menu looked good but steaks were not. Should have tried the pizza or burgers. Beware when they ask if you want steak sauce for your steak. I'm pretty sure the Angus Barn and Vinnies don't ask that. Also, service was ok but a bit slow. When dessert was finally served, ice cream accompanying the cake was already melted. :(
Good food. Service was prompt and courteous and cost was reasonable.
Convivial atmosphere. Excellent waitstaff. Excellent plate presentation. Great flavor.
Great food and drinks.
We have passed this place several times and finally decided to give it a try. Great food. Friendly staff (Jessie) and everything was accurate and brought to the table nice and hot. They also have a local favorite on tap "Hell Yes Maam".
When we arrived on Saturday night, the host worked hard to find a table for us. The restaurant was overwhelmed, particularly by high school prom goers. When we were seated, the waitress took our order, but neither the drinks nor the food arrived. Other diners were leaving due to not receiving their orders and we did the same.
This morning we returned for breakfast. In contrast to our first experience, the service was great and the food was delicious.
We admire the restaurant for giving 2.5% of its proceeds to cancer research.
Although the food was very good, we didn't get served for an hour. And then the entrees were brought at the same time as the appetizers. It was a very busy night - looked like a prom - but the wait was unacceptable. I have eaten here before with faster service, so hope it was just a glitch.
Easter dinner with family and drinks
Went for their Easter buffet today. Wanted to enjoy it but it was a complete struggle. Arrived at 1pm, the hostess was unfriendly, food was lukewarm, no one was manning the omelet bar, the Easter ham advertised on the menu was non existent and no one had any idea there was suppose to be one. Our party of 3 was charged an automatic 20% gratuity and our server was slow, left piles of dirty dishes on our table after we returned back to the buffet, and we had to ask for something to drink besides water. $29.95 a person and so not worth it. I should have cooked. :(
We ate here for Sunday brunch, and that is all that I will say.
Great food, great time, great staff! Trey Hardesty who works in their sales division joined us for dinner - outstanding night with great staff!
The food was decent, but our waitress was really inattentive, not especially friendly, and gave us the impression she really had someplace else she’d rather be. We went there after a concert at Meymandi, but doubt we’ll go back.
Nice location downtown Raleigh, but for what you get...the food was expensive.
Love the ambiance, the food, the staff, and the fact that a percentage of my bill goes to the V Foundation!
We brought friends to celebrate a special occasion. It was VERY loud, the service was EXCELLENT and the food was fair, at best. A great location with great parking, but the food leaves much to be desired.
Good vibrant lunch crowd and our table of 6 was seated quickly, but it took a really long time to order drinks and our food. It took more than an hour to get our food. The food was good but inconsistent. Three of us ordered identical working lunch meals but they were all served differently. The salad was served in a very small bowl on one plate, while the next plate had the salad spread out in a large manner on the plate itself. The sandwich was cold and not served as expected. The chicken curry soup was good but lukewarm and one member of our table had to wait an extended period of time to get a spoon to eat it with. The server was friendly but they seemed understaffed. It also took an extraordinarily long time to pay. We were on a business lunch with some time constraints and we missed our after lunch session because of the long wait.
Great atmosphere, service was a bit slow in the beginning. Great place overall
My husband & I have been to Jimmy V's twice. The first time was for my birthday with a group of friends. We thought it was great! However, one of the guys in our group ordered a dish that was not worth what he paid for it, as the portion was not a reasonable size. Everyone else was pleased with their meals. My husband & I went back for a date night this past weekend. We understand it was busy but we sat at our table for FORTY mins (not an exaggeration) without our food (& we ordered an app which should be out within 10 mins). We had reservations for 7:30, sat a few mins behind which was fine, but didn't get food until 8:25. We had to ask the server at that point to check on our food. We watched numerous tables who were sat after us receive apps & even meals. By the time we got our food, it was cold & very obvious it had sat under the warmer for quite some time. We truly are not ones to complain, as we have both worked in the restaurant industry & understand what it's like to serve on a busy night. I actually don't even think I've ever rated a restaurant before now bc that's how much we typically don't care. I do feel that people should be aware that this place seemed a little over rated to us. For the price we paid, we should have received good service & warm food.
Jimmy V's used to be a great dinner spot, but this last visit was dissapointing. Service was okay, but the food fell completely flat. The chicken & eggplant parmesian was not good at all--the eggplant was cut nearly 1" thick, so that was as hard and rubbery as you can imagine. The chicken parm was okay, but the sauce was very bland. Oddly, there was no pasta served with the parmesian, but 2 slices of a very under-ripe tomato were on the plate. The roasted chicken ravioli was okay, nothing I would order again though, just a plate with 5 raviolo and some cream sauce.
The service was ok. It was busy (valentines day) but it was not busy enough to warrant the long wait time for food and drinks.
I ordered the steak, and the steak was terrible. It came out lukewarm. When the waiter asked why I did not eat the steak, I mentioned that it was almost cold when it came out- not really appealing. No offer was made at this point to substitute another entree, or comp a drink or anything. Full price was paid- although I did not make it a point to complain much more. The presentation was also not very good.
Overall- I will not be going back to Jimmy V's.
Took my wife here for Valentine's Day 2018. Getting a reservation was simple through open table but the service was slow. We both ordered drinks and food but her mule was awful. I'd recommend going again thought just to get the food and service a second chance.
The food and service were exceptional! Great value and we had a well-informed, friendly (without OVER doing it!) server who made an excellent recommendation for the wine. Can't wait to go back!
My Wife and I came up to Raleigh from Wilmington to spend the Day and for Valentines Day, eat at Jimmy V's. It did not disappoint! Atmosphere was nice, the drinks cold and the Food outstanding! Great place for a casual meal, a celebratory meal or to just hang out at the Bar....We WILL visit again!
We came for a quiet Valentines Day lunch and enjoyed ourselves. Great waitress and very friendly. We are also NC State fans and remember Jimmy V. Great pictures. Food was great! Ken and Rose
We came here before a concert at Meymandi. The location is perfect to park in the nearby garage and then walk to the concert hall. We were seated in their closed-in "outdoor" area and the heat lamps were pretty uncomfortable as were the wicker type chairs. We weren't sure why we were taken to the overflow seating since it was a 6 pm reservation and it wasn't too busy yet even when we left. However, our server was attentive and the food was good. Our party of 4 had a variety of entrees including the steak salad (steak was excellent but it was a bit heavy on the dressing and gorgonzola), oysters appetizer (excellent!), pizza, burger and the fish of the day (also excellent). They also had a brewery from Apex passing out samples and it was fun to try their beers. We'd definitely go back here again.
We had a 6pm reservation. Chose Jimmy V's due to close proximity to theater as we were seeing a show at 8pm. We were a bit undecided on what we wanted, so our choices were a bit out of the ordinary for dinner. Ordered the Pear and Kale salad to split. It was delicious, and it is greatly appreciated as a diner to have the kitchen present and serve on two plates. We also ordered the Chicken & Eggplant Parmesan (to split) and an order of wings for the main course. Again, the plating was lovely on the Eggplant/Chicken dish and served in split portions. We ended up sending the wings back due to server error. Overall, a good experience.
Server was well diverse with menu knowledge and selection. Manager Geraldo very attentive
A server didn’t come to our table until after 10 mins when we asked the manager who happen to come to a table near by to get us one. The manager took our drink and appetizer order and that came out nice and quick. Once we did have a server the rest of the meal went well. It was a birthday occasion which I specified on open table but it didn’t seem as though they did anything special for birthdays. Overall the food was great. We had the bruschetta appetizer and the wood fired oysters - both were great. The steak salad and eggplant parmesan were both delicious as well.
I had a reservation with my husband on NYE and was seated right away. The food was just ok, nothing special. I had seafood spaghetti and hubby had ribeye steak. Our waiter was not attentive at all. We never refilled our water or brought out the bread ( we asked him twice!) overall it was just ok. We prob would never go back or recommend it to our friends.
It was NYE and it was busy but our waiter tried to do his best! The food was good but came super quickly (we got the three course meal). Our appetizer took 45 minutes to receive but we had no break between that, our entree, and dessert. It was a little rushed.
The food was delicious! I would eat there again on a normal day.
Dined here on New Years Eve and it was a great experience. I have eaten here about a half dozen times and will say the food is always great and the management and operations of this restaurant are excellent. They know how to handle a large crowd and maintain the same high quality food and dining experience one would get any other day of the week when their kitchen isn’t slammed with a full house.
We were sat outside as a party of 10 on the patio with plastic covering that was not sealed on New Year’s Eve night with a temperature of 26 degrees. I made this reservation three weeks in advance. We were brought one floor space heater and told they are working on the issue but we could not be moved. Our waiter was great, but it was freezing cold our entire dinner. We asked to be moved to another table but told that there were too many reservations and the table sat empty for over an hour. Very poor customer service.
I wasn't sure of what to expect because there were so many bad reviews written. Given the fact that this was also New Year's Eve, I was expecting very slow service and long waits from the kitchen. I was wrong on both... Service was immediate and very polite. Received our drinks quickly and there were no delays with taking the food order. There were 4 of us so we had the lamb rack and the short ribs. Food was tasty and hot. The ribs were extremely tender.
The food was over all very good. The pasta bar was a great touch. The chocolate cake was decadent.
The wait staff could have been a bit more cheerier but I suppose no one wants to work on Christmas.
I had to find the manager because no waitstaff ever showed to to our table. The manager was wonderful! Excellent gluten free pizza, which is not easy to find!!
Lunch menu is no where near as good as the dinner menu.
