Jake's Del Mar Ratings and Reviews
This was our first visit - very busy place (but it's Friday lunch and summer at the beach). You can sit right at the edge of the sand. Beautiful view. The food and service were great. I had the seafood cioppino and my husband had the fish tacos. Both delicious. The watermelon salad and flatbread appetizers were outstanding. We're anxious to go back to try dinner. Worth the trip for us.
Jake's remains a stalwart beach place. Right on the beach with a great view. Food and service are both fine, but the view is the real deal. Particularly good place to take visitors from the North or East during the winter months. You don't have to say a thing - they just look at the people enjoying the beach and think of the weather to which they will soon be returning. And you can enjoy watching them suffer and think about how smart you are to live in San Diego. Quick, inexpensive valet parking is a nice plus.
Beachfront, gorgeous atmosphere, reasonable prices, friendly staff... what's not to like? The two times I've been to Jake's, I've been impressed with the quick service, the friendly nature of the staff (even when they were crazy busy), and the quality of the food. Our latest server, Josh, was exceptionally attentive and considerate, yet non-intrusive. A perfect host!
Jake's made our anniversary memorable. We were wished "happy anniversary" by each staff member who served us and a card wishing us the same was on our table, signed by all the "crew". I had asked if we might have table with a lovely view for our dinner; Jake's came through with a table with an ocean view! The complimentary "hula pie" was a treat. We will visit Jake's again!
Thanks to all the Jake's crew!
Basically on the beach, but inside (windows open) so you are not subject to the elements like you could be completely on a patio. The food was amazing. I thought it a bit noisy, but my wife and I could hear each other across the table. It was our anniversary, and we think we want to go to Jake's every year. It was really that good and that special.
Jakes has been here forever and dumpy and dull and dark......the new remodel and new menu make it a place we will keep going to! Had a watermelon salad that was unique and yummy. Fish tacos were great and the salsa was actually spicy. Had a grapefruit martini that was different and good... the setting right on the beach with the breeze and crash of the waves can't be beat.
Always amazing service and an unbelievable view. All staff is very accommodating and super friendly. Got the caesar salad, fig, pig and blue flatbread to start. Every single bite was delicious. The swordfish special with polenta was phenomenal. I look forward to trying a new dish every time. I have no doubt that it will delight my tastebuds! Thanks Jake's!!!
It was our anniversary and everything was great, as usual. They put us at a quiet table in the back next to the window. The ambiance, the service (great waiter - friendly and knowledgable), and the food was exactly what we expected. Our favorite beach spot.
We went for lunch to celebrate our 30th Wedding Anniversary. We had no doubt as to why it was the number one restaurant on yelp and at our hotel. We wanted to go for dinner but it was booked, even on a weeknight. The waiter was outstanding and helped us select wonderful fresh fish choices. He was also extremely attentive to our needs as well as our privacy. Definitely, a memorable experience. Thank you!
The food server was a little slow (it was very busy) but we enjoyed our view and just being able to enjoy each other's company.
One of our group is from Louisiana two are from Arizona one Northern California and one from Elko Nevada.
Great place I would recommend to all our friends when in San Diego area it's right on the beach in Old Del Mar.
The food was excellent the curry dish was the best I have ever had.
