J. Liu Restaurant & Bar of Worthington Ratings and Reviews
Excellent as always
This was a first date with a lady that I wanted to impress. J Liu was exactly what I was looking for. I've been there many times and it always meets my expectations. The dinner was fantastic. Service was excellent. My only concern is that if full, it can get pretty loud.
Disappointing Mother's Day Buffet
We frequent J. Liu and chose for Mother's Day celebration because of the high quality food and service. We were disappointed to realize that Mother's Day "Brunch" buffet was only option. I suppose I should have verified full menu would be available, however, in my opinion Mother's Day "Brunch" should end by 3pm and then regular menu for evening reservations. We had lovely time at theater, and were looking forward to good meal with our 6pm reservation. The buffet was set up in bar area, on top of bar, which was too high for anyone under 5'5 (including my mother) to actually visualize the food items. The food itself looked and tasted like it had been sitting out since 11am "brunch". We'll likely go back, but sincerely hope the management reconsiders how/when they serve brunch on such important occasions.
Horrible Mother's Day experience
I booked our reservation for 5:30 in the evening on Mothers Day. Nowhere on their website did it say that would only be serving a buffet that day. We had chosen this restaurant for their menu, so this was a huge disappointment. Upon arriving we were taken to the outside patio and just left there with no explanation from the hostess as to where to sit or that it was only a buffet. It was only 60 degrees that day and we had an infant and a toddler with us. We had to demand to be seated inside and after some hemming and hawing she finally sat us inside. The food was extremely poor quality for the over $30/person price. It was a random mixture of brunch food and Asian style food, all of which was mediocre at best and picked over by the time we got there. We prefer quality food over quantity so we definitely did not get our money's worth. I had never been to this restaurant before and I will never go again. never have I felt less special on Mother's Day than at this restaurant. Columbus has much better quality restaurants for much better prices. Don't waste your money.

My family and I were seated outside and we were assured that we would be comfortable there. We were the only patrons seated in that area. That should have told me that the situation was not good. As the meal progressed the wind picked up and the temperature continued to drop. Immediately after eating I asked for the check so that we could get to a warm place.

This was a Mother's Day buffet. Most of the trays of food were empty and appeared to have been sitting around the bar for an extended period of time. Food was scattered all over the bar. I just couldn't believe it. We were there for over an hour, and virtually no one touched the food bar. No attempt to clean it up, restock it, or in anyway improve things. Our families will never return to this restaurant. Do they not have a competent manager? So disappointing. We could've gone to J, Gilbert's!
Poor Service from start to finish
The service started out bad and remained consistently bad throughout the meal. The food was ok, not very good but not so bad that we sent it back. We pressed our luck and had dessert. The cheesecake was mushy like it had been defrosted in a microwave.
All the service at J. Liu's was great. We enjoyed the food and selections. It was relaxing and kid friendly. Our server was outstanding and attentive. We will be back for sure.

Really mediocre food. We probably won't go back.
Great food, horrible service.
The restaurant was not that busy that evening but we had reservations just in case. After being seated for nearly 10 minutes (with no water or bread) our server came to the table and apologized for being late, no big deal. At that time we were ready to order but she only took our drink orders and disappeared again. Our drinks took a while to come out, and when she finally returned with them we inquired about the bread that other tables had received and she shad "oh I could get you some, some people don't like it so I just wait to see if they ask"....definitely not a standard practice at restaurants I have been to before. Then she left to get the bread before taking or order, we even tried to call her back so that we could get our food put in. It was like she could only focus on one thing at a time. Finally we ordered and the food came out and was delicious! Trying to get our bill and then subsequently paying was equally long and frustrating. The whole dinner took close to 2 hours, which was just way too long when the food was quick to arrive. We love J. Liu and their food but hope this was a one time problem, we will definitely give them another chance because the food and atmosphere is that good!
The size of the Worthington location is larger than the Dublin location. As far as buffet's go, we have had better food at other buffet's and at a better cost. It was a learning experience.

We went for Easter brunch and were not disappointed! Best Easter brunch I have had, a great variety with more than just the same old standbys and the dessert bar was phenomenal. Our service was excellent too.

We dined here for their Easter buffet. There was a great selection and everything was good. Pretty tough to get good eggs Benedict on a buffet, but the knocked it out of the park. We had not been there prior to the buffet, but will return for dinner sometime.

Bad sesame chicken
I'm normally not one to complain, however, I did complain about receiving the worst sesame chicken meal that I have had in many years to our waitress and the manager and was still not satisfied. The waitress just shrugged off my comment so I went to the manager with my complaint. He indicated that he has had the same negative review from other customers and would pass on my information to the executive chef who walked by us and ignored me. The manager indicated that they had a change of chicken suppliers and were not happy either. Why would you serve poor chicken to your customers? I watched the table next to me only eat a third of their sesame chicken. I will not go back for a very long time. If they do not respect me as a customer I will not respect them as a eating establishment. There are too many good choices in Columbus for my dining dollars.

Visited J.Liu for Valentine's Day. They were running a much smaller compressed menu which cut out many of the best options. We asked about ordering from the standard menu and were told that was not an option. Our food came out of the kitchen so quickly it was clear that it had been batch made and quickly plated and pushed out. What should have been a romantic evening felt like a race. We were in and out with drinks, dinner, and dessert in less than 40 minutes.
GOOD FOOD... GREAT SERVICE!
THE FOOD I HAD ON MY LAST VISIT WAS GOOD... I HAVE BEEN HERE A FEW TIMES NOW, AND I DID NOT LEAVE DISAPPOINTED. ALSO, THE STAFF WAS GREAT AS ALWAYS! OUR SERVER WAS JORDAN... WE HAVE HAD HIM BEFORE AND THINK HE DOES A GREAT JOB!!

open table resv.@6:30------was seated at first table on right as you walk in----no lighting---could not read menu and they brought candles----took 25 min to receive a drink and appetizer order was brought before drinks----this might be the way open table reservations are treated----from this table seating we never saw the full restaurant. most probably will not return

Cold, expensive food
Went here for restaurant week, 1 of the appetizers was cold, then brought back out after dinner was served. Part of the main entree was cold, reheated and brought out after desert. Not to mention it was expensive.
Whether it's a first date or a golden anniversary, J. Lui's serves up delicious food with a touch of romance that won't crush your budget.

We moved to the area this summer and have heard mixed reviews. Figured restaurant week was a good time to see what this place is about. Restaurant looked just under half full. We were sat right away. Our server came by and said hello and then vanished for 20 minutes. There appeared to be a bigger party in the back so perhaps they were tied up. But no drinks or an "I'll be right back". We ordered Lobster Bisque which was great. Spring Rolls that were not bad but looked like something I could have gotten in the frozen food section. Spicy chicken looked like a carryout dish from the local Chinese restaurant. The Burger was pretty good. Following dinner desserts were ordered which took 20 minutes to come out. Check was dropped off and didn't get picked up for another 20 minutes, the server smelling of smoke when they returned to the table. 15 minutes to run my card. Not very impressed this time around. Maybe we'll give it another shot down the road.
It was restaurant week.
We bot took the special. A three course meal. Excellent as usual.
Limited seafood menu
J. Liu has been the place for us to meet with friends for an evening meal during the past couple of years. It is also our go to Sunday and Holiday brunch spot. The last couple of times we have gone there for dinner I was somewhat disappointed in the selection of items on the menu. Perhaps because I had eaten Asian food for dinner the previous evening and for lunch that day we went to J. Liu's was my problem. The cheese burger sounded good, but I did not want to pay $15.00 for a hamburger plate. The special that evening was a pork chop on mashed potatoes. It looked very good and I wanted to try out their chops, but it was a little too much food at the time and the cost was just under $30.00. I ended up getting the mussels and the chop chop salad as my meal which was good, but not great. I also ordered calamari for the table. I had it before and it is very tasty. J.Liu's Sunday brunch is very good and the selection is the best in town.
Not So Good
We made a reservation for 7:00 on a Friday night, finally got seated at 7:20. We were greeted by our server 10 minutes later. Not a good start. Our Lettuce wraps were served almost cold, the dinner, which was served quickly was nothing that great. My Cripsy Chicken salad was okay, my husband spicy Jasons chicken was good. Overall, the value was not there and would not recommend it to anyone else, nor will we return.
always good but disappointing seating
Food goof service good....but brunch in main dining area not real crowded ....I know it's kid friendly but we were seated between 2 large parties of VERY small kids. When ask if we could get a different table....they had to "check"....so when we were not offered a change ....we figured our bad luck as all tables must be booked. Not many of others ever filled up. Then upon leaving folks with no reservations were being seated in those spots. The chef working the carving station was outstanding! Food good and we like the place but except for fantastic service by our waitress ( who was training someone).....no other employee with exception of chef at carving station seemed engaged. Maybe there are just so many regulars for Sunday Brunch ....the usual extra service ....being ask by a manager how things were or hostess chatting as we leave are just not a focus at Brunch. Still....we will always come back
Great food and service
We enjoyed the Pad Thai salad and Mongolian beef. Have not ever been disappointed with the food or service.
