1/2 price wine on Sundays, amazing blue cheese potato chip appetizer got the evening started right
Good food and great server.
Incredible experience for our first trip to J Gilbert's! We were impressed from the moment we walked in. The service was impeccable, and all staff members were incredibly friendly, but no overbearing. The ambiance is perfect for a romantic dinner or with a group of friends. Very comfortable and relaxed. The food is fantastic. Everything is brought out in sequence and perfect timing. At no point were we sitting and waiting for anything. The servers were attentive and anticipated anything we needed. The prices are comparable with other high end establishments, and the overall experience is well worth the price of admission. Five stars!
A second visit to this restaurant was almost as good as my first. As solo diner, I was seated in a somewhat out of the mainstream booth. Didn't appreciate that, but being a Saturday evening, I didn't want to complain inasmuch as they were busy and I did not want to wait for a better dining location. Server was prompt in arriving at my table, but his initial attitude was somewhat condescending. A box containing a variety of sizes and types of steak knives was presented. (This was rather "over-the-top" I thought and not something I recalled from my first visit 6 months ago.) The waiter's humorous side showed when he said, "The pistols will come later."
My dinner was served without undue delay. I had my steak knife, but no fork. The waiter appeared almost immediately after the dinner arrived, but before I realized I had no fork. He had disappeared quite a bit before my dinner was served. I had to flag down, literally, another employee to get a fork. The steak, scallops, Brussels Sprouts, and a large Baked Potato, generously garnished with butter and sour cream were delicious. A dish of house-made Cinnamon Ice Cream finished my dinner and even that was very good.
The waiter's wine service was correct and as he packaged the remainder of the bottle for me to take, I realized that he had good wine knowledge as we conversed.
While this experience was not the best dining experience I have ever had, when I am in this area again--as I will be--I do expect to return to J. Gilbert's.
Our meal was wonderful!! Our waiter, David was very good & attentive. We were celebrating my husband’s birthday!! They gave us dessert to take home! My only complaint was that we were seated in a room in the rear of the restaurant & it was EXTREMELY noisy!! We have gone to this restaurant several times to celebrate something special, but this was the first time that we ever had all the noise!! It is very distracting!!
J. Gilberts is a consistently excellent restaurant with superior service and low-key ambiance. The food quality, meal presentation, and attentive service make it a perfect place to celebrate a special occasion or simply treat yourself and your party to a fine dining experience.
More expensive than I think the dishes were "worth".
It was my birthday and my first time eating there. There was a delay of some sort with my reservation, not sure why but the food was amazing, will definitely go back
Perfect service. Perfect cut of meat. Never disappoints when my husband and I get there.
Daughter and family were visiting from Maryland and staying nearby and wanted to provide them with a fine dining experience. I have dined at this location many times and have always had great food and service. Had a reservation for 5 and were seated promptly at the designated time. Waiter was excellent with explaining the specials and taking drink, appetizer and entree orders. Several of us had the filet either alone or in combination with the scallops. All of the steaks were perfectly cooked and amazingly tender. The Maryland natives even thought the crab bisque was perfect.
Overall, the evening was outstanding. I used Open Table for reservation and included that it was our anniversary. We arrived a little early but were seated immediately and told "Happy Anniversary" by the host and by our waitress. Our waitress, Caylin, was terrific. She was very knowledgeable about the menu, very personable and attentive without being intrusive. Our dinners were perfect. I had the 4 oz filet/scallops combo. I always order my filet medium rare and hope it comes out very pink but not bloody. This filet was cooked perfectly! Husband ordered the 14 oz. pork chop and it, too, was perfect. Between us we had sides of spinach, roasted carrots (very good), creamed corn and au gratin potatoes (wow). We shared the coconut cake/pineapple ice cream for dessert (compliments of the restaurant for our anniversary). It was a wow also. The restaurant offers wine by the glass in both 6 oz and 9 oz servings. This is great because sometimes just a glass is not enough but you don't want two or a bottle. We will definitely be back!
Amazing experience, as always. They are as consistent as they are delicious.
It was a wonderful place to celebrate my husbands birthday!
Monika was wonderful and both attentive and knowledgeable. We had a great dinner and a great time. We have been coming here for 10 years. A Fave!
Service does not compare to Hyde Park.
Food very good service poor. Please teach staff to be more professional.
It's a great place with great food and has a hint of privacy feel to it.
I always enjoy J Gilberts, but this visit was the best by far due to our great service from Emily. She was friendly, knowledgeable and extremely accommodating. Thanks for making our night out even better!
This will be one of our new favorites. Our waiter was so great and was very honest about the menu. Our drinks were made to perfection. And the food was superb! We usually don’t like too many places filet minion, but this is the place to get steaks! We will be back for sure!
The food was very good. The steaks were prepared to nearly perfect. Wine delicious and the server was knowledgeable. That being said, My only complaint was with the server. My girlfriend and I are young. Both over 21 but still young. The waiter at the beginning made a few little comments about how the wine may have been too pricey for us and suggested we get the less expensive lower quality wine. I adamently refused and after a quick word brought us the wine I wanted. After that he was amazing. But that at the beginning soured my mood a little bit since I felt like he was judging us based on age. Other than that it was a pleasant time. Quiet. Peaceful. Delicious food.
Excellent, as always! One of our ‘go to’ restaurants, especially Sunday for half price wine day.
Their Sunday retail wine night and great food and service make it one of our go-to restaurants.
Great happy hour. Filet was cooked perfectly and the scallops were delicious. Tuna tasted fresh. Nice wait staff. Sign up on site and get $15 off coupon.
Great food! Waitress was not very good. Staff let us change our reservation at the last minute.
Very bad and bizarre service. Didn't get greeted at our table for 10 minutes. Server took my wine glass when he brought the carafe of wine so I had no glass. My husband grabbed me one off of another table and it was dirty. Dropped bread on the table and didn't offer a replacement. Didn't acknowledge my husbands birthday when we mentioned we were dining there for the occasion. I think the server was ill which is disgusting. He was shaking and sweating profusely - we tipped well because we felt bad for him working while sick. Would not reccomend and would not go back.
Great food. Love the bar! Took friends there for the 1st time and they can't wait to go back.
Everything was great. Thought wine was a little over priced.
J. Gilbert’s has been our go-to for special occasions for quite a while now, but the last two times we’ve been there, the food quality we’ve been accustomed to was lacking a bit. It’s still very good, but it lacks that wow factor we used to leave with after out meal. The steaks have been a little too fatty, and a little too charred the last two times we’ve eaten there. The first time we thought it was a fluke, but when it happened this last time as well, it’s caused us to question. Also, we were seated in a room that is typically used for larger group reservations this time...and the acoustics allowed every conversation to travel, and we felt like we were sitting in the middle of an aisle where servers needed to pass through. Based on our previous visits, we’ve just come to expect better from J Gilbert’s in all respects.
We were passing through Columbus and stopped at this restaurant based on a trip advisor reviews. We were not disappointed! We had a great time. The food was absolutely amazing. Kudos to the chef.
Excellent as always. I eat here frequently and it is one of my favorites! Excellent food and not overpriced!!
Food was really good but the desserts were disappointing. And there was a table crammed in a walkway that made getting to and from our table difficult.
Katie at the bar was really a great server. Food was wonderful-will be back soon!
Booth in bar was great location. Excellent service. The flavor of the fillet was different from past experiences. Not as grilled flavor.
We visited J Gilbert’s for Easter dinner. As past customers, we expected high-quality dining and top-notch service. There were few customers in the restaurant, yet we felt the server was in attentive and the steaks were disappointing.
Very good. Food was delicious! The service fantastic
Wonder prefix menu!! Very delicious food and attentive service!
We have been going to J.Gilbert's since it opened and have never been disappointed. Love the cozy bar, great cocktails and food. We enjoy seeing the same bartenders and wait staff . Some have been their 20 years.
His is our second Easter dinner at J Gilbert’s. It was a good location for us to meet with two of our children who attend college nearby. The food was outstanding and our waiter was great. He was very attentive and made some great recommendations. Our family enjoyed the Easter menu, including lamb, petit filets with scallops, crab cakes and wonderful desserts including fresh berry bowl
With zabaglione, chocolate cake and crime brûlée. The salads were cold, crisp and dressings were delicious..we will not hesitate to return when we are in Columbus!
Food is always excellent! Drinks are always great! Service always top notch!
Food was perfect. Waitstaff knowledgeable and friendly.
We’ve been here a few times and never have been disappointed
Great service, food and atmosphere.
