Great tasting food (steak - had filet; and seafood- crab cakes). Great ambiance, not too dark/bright. Interior: Wood and brick and fireplace. Only reason not rated a 5 star overall is that dinner arrived soon after salad was delivered. Seemed a little faster than has been typical at J Gilbert's.

We have great service and food everytime we visit. They have added a grilled vegetable plate that is excellent and can be made a non vegetarian meal by adding the small seafood side of your choice. Ribs are amazing and their chocolate mousse cake and housemade raspberry ice cream are worth saving room for!

I have been here numerous times and it has been delicious!! Although, the last time was not very pleasant. The Cesar salad was doused in dressing and it felt like I was taking a spoonful of dressing without any lettuce. I got the lemon sole special and the fish was raw in the middle and the crab was cold. I should have stuck with the sea scallops. I was extremely disappointed with my meal and shocked because this has never happened before.

This was our first visit to J Gilberts and honestly we eat at fine restaurants about 1-2 times a month. The food was delicious and had unique flavors. Our server was amazing. We were dining with twin nearly two year olds and she was so kind to them as well as other staff. We will be back!!

It was our first time there, but won't be the last. Great food, good ambiance, exceptional service. Our server, Kara, did an excellent job of knowing how much attention we required. She was friendly and professional without being the slightest bit imposing. Kara's service, combined with the memorable drinks and well-prepared food, really made my partner's birthday a lovely evening.

absolutely wonderful service from the time we walked in until we left! totally attentive staff, great food, great recommendations from staff, and a complimentary champagne toast when we were seated just because they cared enough to ask what we were celebrating!

Great service, every table feel private, delicious food! Bacon seems to have crept into every part of the menu, and I would personally skip the pastrami tasting butter and offer a garlic one instead, but otherwise an excellent choice.

Great food and atmosphere with the exception of a VERY noisy table next to us. It got to the point where we just wanted to hurry up and get out. We did stay for dessert...WORTH IT! The chocolate velvet cake was amazing.

My husband and I recently came to J Gilbert's for our anniversary. For the price I wasn't that impressed. The food was good, but not overwhelmingly good. The ambiance was a bit loud and our server didn't once ask if we were celebrating anything special. I highly doubt we will be back.

I ordered the Lobster and he the Filet. It was good. The only thing that was not was the corn Veggie, it tasted like it was soured. like sour butter was used. Or it could have been just me so I did not say anything just did not eat it.
Otherwise the free Birthday desert was Chocolate Heaven. Thank you

Excellent food, Great service. My wife had the maple salmon and she said it was the best she has ever had. I had the ribs and they were the most tender ribs that I ever had. My drink was a little weak but overall very good. The service was just right, friendly without being too intrusive. We even got a free dessert for my wife's birthday. We will definitely go back.

We love J. Gilbert's! We rarely have any problems with food. My only issue this visit was that I split a meal with my wife and the portions provided were smaller than if the meal was together. I know this because it is the same meal I have ordered for myself several times. Also, the crab bisque seemed to have less crab meat than normal. Flavors were spot on! Trevor was an outstanding waiter. Kudos to him. Overall we are satisfied as always with the experience.

We decided to go to J Gilbert's for our anniversary. We hadn't been there in a couple of years since there are so many wonderful dining options in Columbus. We knew before our meal, that our dinner would be wonderful. A yes...the meal was fantastic!
J Gilbert's has a wonderful food selection and wonderful ambience. Our waiter was very attentive & helpful in providing information about the specials and various entrees.

My wife and I made a late reservation for dinner to celebrate something she accomplished and we decided to try J Gilberts, thinking it sounded like a great place. The host was somewhat brisk over the phone when I asked what the last seating was for the night (we weren't close by even an hour, but whatever). So there's that. Our table looked great, but then our waiter Patrick F. arrived. I think since we are both fairly young, he assumed we were dumb and wouldn't tip well. Trying to be funny, he asked us if we "had any questions as long as they were relevant." Wasn't very funny. My first drink came and the glass was shattered on the side. Had to wait about ten minutes for him to come back to point it out. He apologized, took it away, and brought it back in a new glass instead of having it remade, so by now my cocktail was warm, and potentially had bits of glass in it. I risked it. Was an acceptable Hemingway daiquiri, albeit no longer cold.
I had a KC Strip that I wanted rare but that Patrick recommended medium rare, which came out just under medium well. Was overcooked for me and pretty boring, but the green beans and mac and cheese were pretty good. $46 is expensive for an overcooked, bland steak and two sides. My wife had an appetizer for her meal and enjoyed it just fine. I ordered a second cocktail up, which came out on the rocks. Patrick never came back to check on us, so I just gave up and drank it.
All together, the meal was boring and overpriced. If I go out to a steakhouse and drop $46 on a single steak, it needs to be better than what I can make at home. Thought about saying something, but I never saw a manager on the floor during the entire duration of the meal, and we wanted to actually enjoy our evening, so we just left after paying. For the price, I expected much better service and much better food than what we received. A failure all around, J. Gilbert's. Oh, and the hosts never confirmed our OpenTable reservation, so we didn't even get points.

Over the years I have told my son, "it's the little things that get you....good or bad the choice is yours". While waiting to be seated we asked the host if we had enough time to enjoy a drink at the bar; they said, "Oh absolutley!" We had ordered but not received our drinks and were called to be seated. The food was very good, but the service did not match the prices. My steak was ordered with Blue Cheese butter which did not arrive until asked. Then it would not melt over the steak. My dining guest ordered Crab legs which were very tasty but we had to ask for a crab cracker. Our server was not overly attentive; had they been we would have enjoyed more wine. Thank goodness the food was delicious to offset the service. This was my first dining experience with J. Gilbert's but my guest had been there before and said the serevice was mediocre at best then as well.

Made a reservation. We knew we were going to be 15 minutes late so we called in to notify before our reservation time. I accept some fault for that but still didn't expect to wait 25 minutes before we were sat. Service was good until we finished our meal. At that point our server disappeared for 20 minutes. We wanted to order dessert but by the time he came out that passed. Still ordered carrot cake. It would have been much better warm. Steaks/au gratin potatoes and cocktails were good. Asparagus I'd pass on.
