Hy's Steakhouse - Winnipeg Ratings and Reviews
Met good friends for dinner and thoroughly enjoyed our meal. The facility was quiet enough that we could enjoy a great dinner conversation and catch up. Service was great and Denny was very attentive to our needs. He prepared Steak Dianne at our table that was fantastic. They do need to extend their menu to include some Gluten Free Options.
Still thought Hy's had a dress code, so were very disappointed with the general atmosphere. Service was also not 5 star. One of us got the wrong side and coffee was cold. It was a special occasion, but was only mentioned when one dessert came out. It was a busy night and the way the restaurant is set up, there was a lot of "traffic" beside us. The gray jackets the waiters wear are very unattractive! Probably won't be back.
Celebrated our anniversary and received excellent attention & acknowledgement by Everyone! Waiter Andrew was terrific; friendly, attentive & made a delicious Caesar salad table-side. Cheese toast, Gorgonzola Filet mignon & key lime pie were all top notch. Peppercorn steak was very tasty & cooked perfectly but New York cut was fatty. Next time would have the 8 oz filet & add peppercorn sauce. We had a special table in the corner which made it more intimate & romantic. Wonderful evening! Will definitely be back.
Such a nice dining experience. Delicious aroma as we entered the building, friendly greeters, we’ll timed & efficient waiters, wonderful tasting steaks. We all loved the cheese toast!! Parking was a bit confusing is was our only issue. Beautiful restaurant great for special occasions. We recommend Hy’s the for delicious steaks, rich ambiance & friendly service.
I found the lighting to be too dark as I was unable to read the menu.
I found the tables to be way to close to each other, as I could hear the conversation next to me so well that it was most difficult to hear the person I was with.
The servers were polite and helpful.
The food was enjoyable.
The washrooms were clean.
Overall it was a pleasant experience, though I would not dine there again by my own choice.
Amazing night out at Hy’s. The food was cooked to perfection and our server Laurence was fantastic. We have had him serve us before and we were happy to see him again this time. My only complaint was that it was a little loud in the upstairs portion where we ate but that can be expected as it seemed like there were some anniversary parties going on
We ordered steaks at a very high price they were so fatty there was hardly any edible steak on our plates waiter never came to ask how the meal was. If your looking for a good steak house in wpg visit Ray ans Jerrys or the keg.
Hys is over priced and quality of meal is something you would get at a salsbury house for half the price
This was the first time in about 20 years that we have visited Hy's. The meal was spectacular! From the "at the table" preparation of the Caesar Salad, every element of the dining experience was dealt with grace and professionalism. The wine list is expansive and smartly presented on a tablet that you can scroll through with wines listed by country and grape variety. It is very expensive but well worth the price.
Had a great night. Our waiter Lawrence was the best. Very attentive and catered to all our needs. Last time we were here they didn’t have the oysters Rockefeller and I was so disappointed because it’s one of the reasons we come here. This time you had them so my husband and I each had an order. Absolutely worth every dollar. I was impressed with how well everything was seasoned. No need for salt or pepper. One thing we were all disappointed in was the fact that you no longer offer complementary bread with the meal. I know this from the last time we were there but hoped that you had changed that. Bread is relatively cheap and should be back on the menu. Not everyone wants to have cheese toast or garlic toast. Will definitely be back.
Food was disappointing, I ordered a New York steak and fries. At $50 per plate, one would assume the meal would come with some sort of vegetable and be plated to appease the eye. Steak and fries was all I got. I asked for medium rare and received it blue. The waiter was good and agreed to put it back on where it came back charred. Again, at $50 per plate, I would have expected a steak cooked to perfection! My wife’s meal was great so at least that was nice. Waiter and overall service was great!
We had a lovely dinner experience with our guests. Both couples had the Chateaubriand and it was excellent; nice table presentation. Our waiter was really great, very attentive ! Nice atmosphere and the acoustics were great as we could all talk together and hear each other. Many restaurants are too noisy and it is impossible to have a conversation at your table.
If we had not received gift certificate to this restaurant , we would not have attended and probably won’t again. It is too pricy and way out of our range. The food was good but nothing exceptional. I was disappointed to pay $45 for a plate of prawns and scallops and a blob of plain white rice. I would have at least expected wild rice or something a little fancier. My husband had a steak with mashed potatoes for almost $50. Too expensive for what we received.
The service, the atmosphere and the food were all as good as they could possibly get. The prices however are that of a 5 star restaurant in New York that has a 6 week long waiting list to get a reservation. If you don't mind paying 10x the actual value of most if not all of their main course selections, then this is the place for you. Needless to say, I could of bought 4 ready to eat rotisserie chickens at any grocery store for the same amount that I paid for a half a chicken here. But this half a chicken was "free run" or something of that nature so if that justifies the price to some people, okay then. It didn't for me. The only reason I came here was that I've never been there before so I thought I would go at least once and see what it was like for myself. I was also there on a date so it wasn't all for nothing. My date loved the place, but like me also shared her dislike for the outrageous prices. We had a meal a day earlier at the pony corral for a third of the price and it was just as good as it was here. Anyhow, that's the end of my rant. Hope you find this useful.
Started with the Scallops with passionfruit sauce and had a filet mignon with roasted Brussels sprouts. The steak was grilled to perfection. Jared was our server for the night and his service added to the experience. Capped the meal off with the pistachio creek brûlée which was smooth.
The service was great. Our server had very good beverage and food recommendations. My only disappointment was the dipping sauce with the calamari, I didn't find it too flavourful. Then the chicken breast I had with my salad was not warm, as I expected it to be. Mocktails, Cesar salad, steak and fries and dessert exceeded our expectations!
This occasion was significantly much nicer than our last visit to Hys. The ambiance was improved and the service was very pleasant and enjoyable, thanks to the server (Kerri). We look forward to returning in the future to enjoy our next notable occasion. We have a renewed appreciation of a premier restaurant . Thanks for the great evening..........
Totally enjoyed the atmosphere and service, I had the angus rib steak as I had never tried one before and figured this was the place to try it, it was ok but for the price I guess I though it would be great, would go again but would stick with a steak I know I would like.
