Hot Tuna Ratings and Reviews
We had dinner with friends and three of us enjoyed the Halibut special. The fourth person had the soft shell crabs and everyone was pleased with their dinner. Our server, Chad was very attentive and he even helped us change tables. We look forward to our next visit.
I took visiting friends to Hot Tuna early in the week. Then let them pick their favorite restaurant on the last night. They picked Hot Tuna as the 1 to go back to. Salmon dinner was excellent. And the coconut shrimp appetizer was yummy. Our waiter was nice and friendly but none of us could understand him. I believe he was not from the Usa.
I highly recommend dining here!
I had really high expectations for this restaurant going in based on reviews and others recommendations from friends. It was a nice dinner and the meal was good but it wasn't amazing. Our server had a hiccup with our appetizers and food coming out quickly in succession but he handled it well and the service was amazing. I didn't hate it but it isn't a place that I would drive 30 minutes for again. They do have a GREAT outdoor patio and their bar looked pretty awesome so maybe we will be back for drinks.
The tuna was over cooked.
The tacos had literally had no flavor at all.
The crab dip..was missing something...didn't think crab dip could be messed up.
The salmon salad was Good!
It was hot in the restaurant and we had flies around our table. We were indoors.
The only good thing was the waitress was very sweet and professional!
We have been to a lot of restaurants and have never once complained but this was way to many things.
Won't be back.
Our server this evening was absolutely fantastic. She not only was very pleasant, but she also went above and beyond for the table next to us. She was very friendly and knew how to answer many questions that were had about the menu.
As far as the food goes, most of it was phenomenal!
We had the calamari for an appetizer. It was not my favorite. The breading was a little thicker than I like and it was a little over cooked. But the entrees and desserts were fabulous!
I eat tuna poke everywhere I can, and this was one of the best I've ever had. I liked the concept of the whole bowl. The tuna poke appetizer was a perfect portion for a meal in my opinion. We also had the cedar plank salmon and the wild mushroom risotto, which I would recommend and would eat again myself.
The desserts are all home made. The cowboy cookie was absolutely amazing. It comes out freshly baked in a skillet with vanilla ice cream on top.
We chose to do a one-night get away to VA beach, and Hot Tuna was our top choice for dinner (2 kids, 2 adults). The staff was friendly and efficient, the decor was modern, clean and upscale-beach-y. The starter selection was amazing, well-priced and tasty. Fantastic specials. Nice kids menu. Only the chicken in my daughter's sandwich was a bit over-cooked. Otherwise, really great place!
The seafood (oysters and tuna) were quite good. The wine (which was poor) was over-priced, but that's not really a surprise.
The atmosphere was nice enough, but the clientele was difficult to pin down. My best guess is it's an after-work hangout for late-20- and early-30-somethings. Feel free to stop by anytime, however.
We loved our first visit to Virginia Beach and I am so glad to have found Hot Tuna on Open Table and made a visit. It was the other side of town from where we were staying, but it was totally worth the $10 Uber/Lyft ride. The service was fantastic and we loved trying lots of items from the menu between all four of us at the table. This neighborhood hot spot will definitely be a return spot for us next time we make it to VA Beach.
We drove from Newport News with a 7pm reservation. When we arrived about 6:15, The guys at the front desk sat us immediately. Our waitress, Rihannon was very attentive and no matter how busy the dinning room was, she was fun!
We opted for the Tuna bites and Buffalo shrimp which was more than enough and both were delicious.
We have eaten at HotTuna several times and it is always worth the drive.
