We stopped in for Easter brunch. We normally come from both Easter and Thanksgiving. This year the brunch was by far the best it has been in a long time. They had a great variety with everything from breakfast items, omelet bar, sushi, classic ham and beef tenderloin, chicken, fish, cocktail shrimp, wonderful salads, bread and a bunch of wonderful dessert options.
I was disappointed with this restaurant. I took my daughter for Easter Brunch. I was annoyed that we had to pay up front and include gratuity, believe me, that did not make for an attentive waitress. I think tips should be based on performance, not a given (nor a given amount). The selection was not that good, nor was the food worth what we paid for this occasion. I would not come back for something like this. Maybe a quick dinner, but that has been hit or miss as well.
Our family attended for Easter brunch and I am sick over how much money we paid for such a mediocre experience and poor food. The sushi fell part into heaps. The meat and cheese tray had been sitting out too long an the food was getting hard on the ends. The deviled eggs were frozen. They were like biting into ice cubes. The dessert portions were cut extraordinarily large, so we wasted a ton of food. Overall the quality and temperature of everything was sub-par, making the price (paid in advance, of course) absolutely outrageous.
Hamburger had an after taste, the rest of our food bland. Very expensive for the quality they serve. Not eating there again.
Great food and service. Adult beverages are way over priced (hard alcohol).
Mediocre across board. Highly overpriced. I understand that it was New Year’s eve and they were serving a larger than usual crowd...but we went at 6:00 and the crowd hadn’t arrived yet. At their prices, if they aren’t going to make dinner a fine dining experience, they should close down for the night and send everyone home.
New Years Eve
The heat wasn’t working on one of the coldest nights of the year...we were all bundled in coats, scarves and gloves.
We enjoyed Christmas Eve dinner at HK. The staff made the occasion special and dinner was so wonderful.
This was a bad experience and poor service, my meal was stonercold (medium rare fillet mignon) and when I complained my dinner was taken away with no replacement - saying that it would not appear on the bill.
We dined here for the Thanksgiving buffet. Every single dish they brought out was room temperature, the pork loin was like shoe leather and not edible, the potatoes and stuffing were thick, dry, and obviously reheated. The best things were the pies and we believe those were not made on site. For a top notch resort, it lack a lot. We had to clean every chair off at our table with a napkin, the floor was filthy. And to add injury, the charged an automatic gratuity of 22%!!! This was especially ridiculous for a buffet!!! Would have been better off at Golden Corral where at least the food would have been hot!
We stayed at the lodge and decided to get dressed up and make reservations at hotel restaurant. We got sat right away ordered drinks quickly. Water came out before drinks I ordered crab legs and my husband ordered turkey fried steak both delicious wonderful dinner and view . We had a wonderful date night without leaving our hotel.
I LOVE HK's restaurant! The waiter Brent, was amazing. Very helpful and saw to our every need. My 2 year old Grandson loved the Mac and cheese. Obviously made to order. The Filet Mignon dinner was delicious. Fine wines and good drinks, too. The decadent chocolate cake was a grand finale. The next morning, I was in a hurry for breakfast, the hostess and waiter sped up my buffet by having the bill and my coffee to go! Please thank every one for me.
Always consistently exceptional. Great place for a business dinner with clients or for a quiet date night. Food was amazing- especially the scallops . Steaks were cooked to perfection. And you can’t go wrong with the Mayfair salad. Nice, extensive wine list. Server was above par as well. She even pointed out after I had signed the bill that they had already put 20 % gratuity (large party) and said she could void the tip I had added . Honesty earned her the extra tip :)
All around Lovely experience!
Excellent food quality. Gorgeous elegant & comfortable setting
We were handed the wine list. We orders a bottle of wine. The first 3 bottles we attempted to order, they were "out of". My husband ordered the lamb shank and they were " out of" of those too. The waitress, Summer, was very good and apologetic. We felt very disappointed in this lack availability or "out of" . If, we had been informed up front that items were no longer available, it would have been a fantastic dining experience . The management should either make sure they have items on the menu, or update the menu.
The hostess - Edith - was a pleasure. Only negative was dishes crashing to the floor in the bus station 3 times during dinner.
Went for our anniversary dinner. Good and service was excellent!
Great place with excellent food. The service was outstanding.
Vacation dinner
We went to HK's to celebrate a birthday. It was a lovely evening, with good friends, great food, and great service! We will definitely be adding HK's to our list of favorite places to eat!
You should always order a steak at a steakhouse. Straying to other items on the menu is problematic. For example veal is just a round steak.
My wife and I ate at HK's on a Monday evening. It was a slow evening with diners at only 5 tables. Wait staff was friendly and tried hard to make sure we had an enjoyable experience. Unfortunately, that was not the case. The restaurant could use a good cleaning as dust was visible on lettering and window sills. Our food was tasteless and improperly prepared. I sent back a cup of barely warm she crab soup that was thick and pasty enough to stand a spoon up in. Our server indicated that the chef had just made it and didn't know why it was so cold. On the plus side, she readily accommodated my request to return it to the kitchen and replace it with a salad. We were also told by our server that the vegetable of the day was broccoli. When our entrées arrived we were served overcooked asparagus instead. Lastly, we ordered a bottle of wine to accompany our meal. Our server poured the first glass and did not offer to refill our glasses for the remainder of the evening.
In short, management needs to be more engaged with the operation of the restaurant by ensuring the facility is clean and staff are adequately trained. The food and service we experienced fell well short of other comparably priced steak and seafood restaurants located nearby.
My first visit to Baxters and definitely will not be my last. Great spot to look at the lake and while having a great meal.
We asked to be seated by the lake view and we were currently the only party in the restaurant. All were four top tables that you could put together. They had put three tables together already for our party on the opposite side of the empty restaurant. We asked to move, hostess said this was the only table that could accommodate us. We said, aren't they all the same tables? She said yes. Then the manager came and said they only do large parties on the side of the empty restaurant with no views. Then they screwed up all of our drinks. Every one. Martinis came out on the rocks, manhattan came out as just whiskey on the rocks. The waitress also delivered one- literally one drink at a time since that's all she could hold, while four servers just stood around watching. Then they told us that we had to order dinner at the same time as our appetizers. We said we'd prefer to space it out. Waitress said and I quote, no you aren't allowed. It just kept going down from there. In the end, the server was very kind. That was the only redemption.
Restaurant wasnt that busy. Waited 10 minutes to be greeted by server. 1 server covering multiple tables while other staff standing around talking. Never received refresh on any drinks. Steaks mixed up and cooked wrong. By the time it was correct, it was 15 minutes after everyone else's food served, they were all finished eating. No hustle by anyone. Meanwhile, server continued small talk with other customer. This place has potential to be great but too inconsistent depending upon the night, staff working and management.
HK's was terrific! Great view, great service and great food! The first picture is of our view. The second of our appetizer!
Outstanding
Very good service, good food and loved the ambiance of the restaurant.
We enjoyed the Special Mothers Day brunch. Staff was welcoming and service and food were excellent.
Our servers were wonderful. The other staff was also more than helpful. Wish I could give them 6 stars.
Everything was fine except the clam chowder was extremely salty.
Wedding weekend meet the parents...
The bartender was way overworked but did a great job! Food was good and faster than they thought it would be.
We always love to stay and dine at the lodge.Great service surrounds us with friendly, smiling staff.Their filet mignon is the best☺
I have attended the Thanksgiving Buffet several times in years past and it was excellent. There was a lot of variety in food offerings and the presentation was great. I returned this year expecting the same standard, but the meal fell very short of what I remembered. I understand cost savings is important but I believe with the number of people who attend the buffet, they will more than make up any expense they incur in making the Thanksgiving meal something to remember.
We had our Thanksgiving dinner here with family for our long weekend stay at The Lake!
Omg, the Thanksgiving buffet was outstanding! The variety of gourmet, quality choices were of utmost perfection! The customer service so friendly and attentive. This could become a tradition very easily!
Great service and scrumptious food! The scallops were fit for a king with sweet golden raisins and a sauce that made your palette sing! plenty of options for a vegetarian or pesca without doing the pull and weave. The Mayfair salad is delish! All desserts are made from scratch in house so you just can't go wrong. The sea salt caramel cake...oh la la! Wait staff is attentive without you feeling like they are part of the party.
Great for business, date or girlfriend gathering. The atmosphere allows for relaxed, comfortable setting with a more sophisticated ambiance. For lake dining, more upscale than shorts and tees and no screaming kids :).
Great dining experience.
Visited on 10/29/16 for dinner. Was a surprise 'anniversary' dinner for my wife. Staff was awesome--as was the food and service. They went out of the way to make this a special and romantic evening for us.
I hope to make this an annual tradition!
After years of not coming into this restaurant we decided to give it a try. Boy, we were glad we did. The renovation was well appointed and it was great to see it's not as "stiff" as it used to be. The place really seems to have taken on a new vibe with a great atmosphere.
Now the food:
Ordered the steak (cooked perfectly)! The Shrimp and Grits are the best I've ever had. Service was pleasant, and quick, but not to quick, so you could really enjoy the experience. We will definitely be back. I highly recommend!
