Worse Experience Ever! Sat, 4/14 Harper's for lunch. Was greeted and seated in a section where there appeared to be 1 waitress serving a youth soccer team and 2 adult tables. There was a delay to be greeted from the waitress. Received drink, placed order for a salad. Server delivered salad to table but then had no add'l service from the waitress for 20 mins. No offer for refills. Salad subpar. My gf and her son arrives. Waitress told them she would be right back. 10 mins passed, so I got the attention of the host and asked for service. She went and got a new waitress. She accepted their orders, returned with their drinks but no straws or napkins. Said she would return, she didn't. We asked the host again; she then brought straws, still no napkins. Their entrees arrived my gf was given no silverware. Her son began eating the chicken tenders, they weren't crispy, moreso soggy. He also didn't like the flavor of them. When the waitress went by the table we asked could we get a different entree for him. She began to explain that the chicken tenders were seasoned with Thyme and began to give us an education on herbs. We then asked again to change his entree? She then said I can get him a pepperoni pizza from the kids menu and it would only cost $6. Well he is 15 years old, 5'8 and 170lbs. We never said cost was our issue. We go him a new entree but she then asked my gf "would you like me to pkg the tenders up for you and you can take them home but you would have to pay for them". What?? My gf politely said no t/u. I asked for a manager. The manager arrives and begins to explain what a "weird"" day they were having; the large parties, it being a Monday blah blah blah. There may have been an apology some place in all of the excuses. She then offered to bring a dessert. We declined bc weren't looking for anything free. We asked for the check, the waitress counted the $ in front of us before we could get up from the table.
Comfortable for casual dining menu had many options
I will not return. The TX beef brisket was mostly fatty pieces and was tasteless except for the sauce. The waiter and manager both were unaffected as they noticed half a pile of inedible "meat". Texas would not have been proud of what Harpers is calling beef brisket. The food and service here are bland and not worthy of a visit. If you do go, stick to the bar for drinks.
There menu is too limited....
Food and service both exceptional! Did not feel rushed! Always enjoyable time at Harpers
Jim. our server is super! we try to get him every time, he works on weekends. we drive over an hour to eat here. they have a nice party room. good food, willing to make changes for food allergies. good drinks, nice wine, good tea. tables are not crammed together. nice bathrooms. parking can be a challenge. right at Carolina place mall in Pineville, near charlotte, NC. near the book store and rei.
My husband and I were taking some friends out for dinner. We went here because the ambience of the restaurant is good. Big mistake! Absolutely the worst service I believe I have ever experienced. The waitress was so rude that we were laughing (to keep from crying) every time she came too the table. One of our party had allergies. The waitress was so put out by the questions of what was OK to eat. It took her several trips to give such poor information, that our friend just ordered a side salad with olive oil and vinegar. We were there before the dinner hour, and were told we could not order off the dinner menu. So, our food options were limited. My food was OK, but one of the sides was very salty. One of our party had a very undercooked burger. No way would we complain to her, because we knew it would be useless. We had asked her if she would ask the kitchen staff a question and she told us they were too busy to be bothered. Most of the tables were empty. When it was time to pay, she did not offer coffee or dessert. After we paid, we stayed talking for over 30 minutes. She never came back to refill water. I would have gone to the manager if we had not been with friends we were “treating” to dinner. Some treat :( We will not go back.
This was Thanksgiving dinner. Price point: $28 per person.
The reason we chose Harper's is that it was NOT a buffet. We've tried some (Red Rocks, New South Grill) South Charlotte Thanksgiving buffets that were quite unimpressive and buffets are difficult for my husband because of left hand issues. (Where do you set the plate down to fill it?!)
So Harper's was our choice as it was not $100 a plate like Ballantyne Resort! We had been there for dinner before, and it was really good. Not like, "mall food", though it is in Carolina Place mall.
We were happy we chose it. We were surprised that it took over 15 minutes for our food to come (you know everything's in vats back there waiting to be scooped out, and it wasn't packed at 2:00) but once it did, it was tasty. Plentiful, too. Large servings of everything except the delicious jalapeno cornbread, which was a tiny square.
The ham tasted suspiciously like Honey Baked, which is a good thing. The sweet potatoes were whipped and delicious. The green beans were overcooked ("Southern") but seasoned with lots of ham bits. Salad nothing to write home about but adequate; iceburg, cabbage, cucumbers and a few tasty croutons that didn't break my teeth. The house garlic ranch was delish. Not "Hidden Valley" sweet at all. Cheesecake didn't taste house made, but was rich and quite satisfactory.
One complaint, and it's not really a complaint, the prime rib was FATTY. I know, prime rib is fatty. But with only a butter knife to do combat, it was time consuming. Since the menu specifies 2 "entrees", I think I'd get ham and ham next time. Turkey is not my thing...
But on a 1-10 we'd give it a 7.8 or 8. Far above the below average buffets we can afford.
Server and manager were cheerful and friendly. Music not too loud. Large parties sat in their own area behind a partition, which was well thought out.
Thanks, Harper's, for having Thanksgiving dinner and a great attitude about it for us. We'll be back!
My family decided to go out for Thanksgiving this year and after checking several different restaurants we chose Harper's. Mainly because they advertised prime rib as an option. For Thanksgiving you had the option of 2 out of 3 entrees and then pick 3 vegetables out of a decent list of options.
We arrived right before our reservation time and were promptly seated.
The waiter began taking our orders and my wife ordered the prime rib and Turkey. I found it kind of odd when he didn't ask her what temperature she wanted her prime rib to be. When it was my turn to order, I also ordered the prime rib with my turkey and I stated that I wanted mine "medium". The waiter told me they were all mixed up but he would do his best to bring it out medium... Ummmm WHAT????
When the food arrived, it was a generous portion and the plates were full. Everything tasted well prepared with the exception of the prime rib. When I think of prime rib I think of a hearty slice of meat, not thinly shaved meet like a roast beef would be. Well, unfortunately that's how the prime rib came out and it was nowhere near medium. Mine was cooked to the point of if you put any more heat to it it would have been cooked to death, as was my wife's. This was very disappointing as that is the part of the meal that I was looking forward to the most.
There was a manager waking around visiting tables and I told myself that when she stopped by our table I was going to mention my disappointment with the meat. Needless to say, she never stopped by our table.
Dessert was our choice of 3 different options. We chose the cheese cake and it was fine. Nothing extraordinary but it wasn't bad.
I learned that I will never just look at a menu and assume that what they say it is is what I think it is. I felt a little mislead.
Convenient location as part of Carolina Place Mall. Much more comfortable and quiet than food court.
From the moment we walked it we were treated as very special guests. The seating was very comfortable, the menu was somewhat limited but we all found something and it was served very quickly and was fabulous!! Highly recommend.
The food was of low-quality I had the club sandwich in the Coldcuts on there tasted slimy an old
Food was just not good. No wonder it was empty in restaurant. Service was good. Not worth another try.
pizzas were outstanding and unique. SHOCK, they dropped the smoked chicken nachos from the menu. those are best in town and it is deeply disappointing as that was one of the main attractions. I have written favorably about the nachos including on YELP. What is management thinking, dropping one their unique Harpers signature appetizers
Food was ok. South Park location is better. Service was terrible. About 15 minutes between being seated and finally having order taken. Checkups from server we're almost noon existent. And the place was only at about 40% capacity.
The cajun ribeye was over done and tasteless! Not what I expected.
We participated in Queens Feast at Harper's and we were ridiculously disappointed. The service was good, however the food was moderate at BEST. I got the chicken plate and it was mostly just grease. My husband found a bread tag in his mashed potatoes and his "medium" steak had zero pink in the middle. It was really overdone. The server was nice about all of this, but I will NOT be going back. The drinks were good though. That's about the only thing Harper's has going for it.
Attentive staff, food was par except for worst asparagus ever (limp, greasy, left dark gray residue on plate and a horrible, cooking-fuel aftertaste interrupted my palate). Requested a replacement side of asparagus, and second serving was just as horrible and equally inedible. I won't take my chances by going back.
A great place to gather with friends..never rushed...food excellent
This is a good neighborhood spot, we never have to wait for good food and service. The management team here goes above and beyond to provide the best experience. Food is flavorful and consistent.
Service was excellent. I love that they finally began using larger tea glasses. And, i did not run out of beverage once even though I went through them quickly.
We love Harpers. Have been frequent patrons for almost 15 years. I booked a table for our anniversary because we love Harpers. There are more formal choices available but we like the balance that Harpers provides. Great food and service. A great casual / elegant ambience. Comfortable.
The waiter was extremely friendly. He made us feel right at home. The food was great.
Limited food selections. Seems to have become more of a burger place?
Harpers is always consistent, providing yummy food and good service. Management works to make your dinner a good experience.
We have celebrated many occasions at Harpers over the years. The food is consistent, the service great, and the pricing reasonable.
Frequent customers. Love the wood fired pizza and the nachos. Also had odouls beer thoday frosty mug
We were visiting out of town and chose this restaurant because of availability and nearby shopping. I ordered the ribs. They were awesome! Slaw good too. Different twist on the flavor. Great ambiance. My husband enjoyed his also.
Great casual place to eat! Food is always good and the service is great
Their brunch menu is very limited now, which was disappointing. However, what was even more disappointing was food that wasn't hot, except for the chicken - which they obviously made everything else first, and the chicken took longest to cook. Entire meal should be hot when it's first brought out. My husbands meal was the exact same. Ans we were there as soon as they opened at 11am. I will NOT dine here again for brunch.
Never disappointed here, either with the food or service. Erin did an outstanding job and the hostesses were quite accommodating and friendly. Will definitely be back.
We are regular customers at Harper's Carolina Place Mall and have menu favorites. This time everything was perfect. Pepperoni pizza with onions and kalamata olives, smoked chicken nachos, pulled pork slider, Odoul's beer.
The hostess was friendly but the place was dark and seemed dingy. The service was slow and the food was subpar especially considering the prices. We got a quesadilla and chipotle chicken nachos. The food was cold and all of the chicken was on the bottom of the nachos. I would not recommend this place.
We are repeat customers of Harpers at Carolina Place. their wood fired thin crust pizza and smoky chicken nachos are best in the city
This place literally had 10 menu items to choose from..... very dissapointing
Had a great time enjoying dinner with my 5 year old daughter before attending our first daddy daughter dance. The food was very good, prepared exactly by order and the beverages were truly exceptional. Looking forward to returning back to Harpers very soon.
We dined during Restaurant Week, an excellent value at Harpers. Many choices at a great price were offered to us. Our food is always well prepared and consistent, Harpers always provides good service. It's a convenient destination and we always leave satisfied.
Booked reservation on New Years eve. Not a lot of patrons in the restaurant. Service was good, but food was not up to expectations and was overpriced. Paid $34 for cool, overcooked filet mignon, 3 cold grilled jumbo shrimp and undercooked asparagus. Hopefully it was just a bad night. We do not plan to back anytime soon.
Disappointing visit !
The food was ok but the service was terrible. The server lacked any experience.
We ordered an appetizer (artichoke dip), two salads, and two dinners along with drinks. After a while, One salad arrived and we had to remind her that we ordered an appetizer. After a while that arrived and immediately afterwards, the second salad arrived. Within 1 minute (no kidding!) the dinners arrived ! There we were with an appetizer, salads, and our dinners all at the same time !
