I had the prix fixe 3-course menu when I dined here on Saturday night. The tomato caprese salad was delicious. I had the lobster mac n' cheese for my main. Also great, but just be sure your partner has a few bites as well...VERY garlicky!! And for dessert I had the warm butter cake...a wonderful way to finish the meal, not too rich or heavy after a very rich entrée. The ambience is upscale (especially for Edmonton) and we had a very accommodating server. We didn't like the 1st bottle of wine we chose and he was very happy to change it for something else. He just wanted to make sure we were happy. I would highly recommend The Hardware Grill, and I will definitely be returning!
Enjoyable evening with my friend from South Africa
The menu was varied and we found dishes to satisfy each of our appetites. She had the lamb and I had the sea bass. The wines were very good and the meals were delicious, and we saved a little room to share the gingerbread and mango ice cream. My only disappointment was that our mouths got very dry afterwards which is a sure sign for me that MSG was used. I'm not allergic to MSG but I find that although it enhances the flavour, my thirst becomes insatiable and quite often end up with a headache. I went to the Hardware Grill to avoid the restaurant chains that use MSG ubiquitously. The food at HG would likely taste wonderful without the added flavouring salts. Why not feature MSG free entrees?

The service was friendly and prompt. We had the sea bass and the strip loin and both meals were FABULOUS! The food was hot and delicious, the best meal we'd had in a long time!

We had dinner at hardware grill for my fiancé's 30th birthday. I was really excited that we were able to go here again because the last time we went it was amazing but this time was a little bit different. I found that our waiter was in a rush and then my fiancé ordered a regular Cesaer to drink and it was so spicy that he couldn't even drink it. My fiancé's steak was also over cooked but mine was fantastic. I actually wouldn't go back here just because my expectations were so high from the last time and once we got our bill it was quite expensive and I didn't feel like the food lived up to that.

We had a great anniversary dinner. The service is second to none and the food was beyond amazing.
Took my boyfriend for his birthday dinner; Honestly the best in the city. Neither he nor I had been before & The reviews I read beforehand were 100% accurate. We haven't stopped talking about it. Can't wait to go back!!

We enjoyed both of our dinners: the beef tenderloin and the duck , both excellently prepared and presented. The gingerbread dessert was delicious and our waiter was friendly and attentive. My friend had never been before and was very impressed.
A few hits, but no home run
Arriving before 6 PM on a weekday, my partner and I each opted for the $50 "Before Sunset" menu. Of our two appetizers, the butternut squash ravioli was outstanding, but the BLT contained a few brown leaves was drowning in dressing. Of our entrees, the salmon was very good, but its spinach bed was too salty to enjoy. The pork ribs, root veggies and fries were underwhelming. For dessert, the cake on pineapple was good, but the brownie was a marvelous taste sensation! The service was attentive when we arrived, but dropped off noticeably as the other tables filled.
Great food with tepid service
As always, food is great here. Ordered from the 'before sunset' menu and had the 3 course fixed price menus. Had the wedge BLT which was ok, didn't love the dressing but the romaine was beautifully crisp. Short ribs were ridiculous. Dessert was a wonderful butter cake with caramelized slice of pineapple. Wine menu is truly spectacular. Our primary server seemed a bit offish and apathetic but the assisting staff (bread, water) were fabulous and much more outgoing.
Dinner with my sister
My sister and i ordered the small plates so that we could sample more of the items on the menu. We walked away with a new fav....the duck confit. Exceptional!!
Wine stock could be improved
This is the second time I've dined here recently where I had to go through multiple selections of wines before they had the bottle listed in stock. When they did have the bottle it was not the vintage as listed, which is another problem. They even advised the list was just updated, which I doubt. I'd suggest either correcting the list routinely or at minimum mark out what no longer remains so guest don't have to keep making another selection. It's not the servers fault but then becomes awkward, particularly for a business dinner.

Very good for special dietary needs. Delicious food, beautifully cooked. Presentation excellent. Service very cordial.
Fortunately, some dining establishments stay great
The recent renovations at Hardware Grill made it even more palatable, so to speak: you can select an intimate rounded booth or sit near the kitchen and observe the chefs put together their wonderful concoctions. The food has stayed consistent since they've opened, an anomaly in itself since the Edmonton dining scene can be iffy and fickle. It's without question the best place pre-symphony or pre-Citadel theatre but regardless you should go there to revel in their signature menu items, most notably the Porcini-Crusted Sea Bass which never fails to impress. It's a brilliant arrangement of colors, textures, and succulent perfectly done fish. I have only once ordered anything else since the opening, so I estimate at least 50 immensely satisfying dinner experiences there. Staff rarely changes, which surely a sign of faith in the religion of fine food and wines.

Excellent meal even if a bit pricey but for a special occasion we don't mind. Noise level on a Friday night was a bit high for visiting; hard to hear conversations with friends at the same table at times.
THEY ARE ALWAYS GREAT THERE! THE SERVICE AND THE FOOD IS OUTSTANDING. WILL CONTINUE TO GO HERE, AND I'VE REFERRED MANY OF MY FRIENDS AND FAMILY TO COME HERE AS WELL. THEY HAVE ALSO ENJOYED IT!
Interesting menu. Good service
The menu was very diverse and interesting. I had the elk and beef dish - cooked to perfection and great sides. Dessert was fabulous. Excellent wine list at all price points to enjoy and enhance the meal. Service was good. Interesting building and finishes. Was there for a business dinner. Will return and bring my wife for a special occasion. A great find in the Edmonton market.
Not our first time at the Hardware Grill. Can always count on good service and good food. Kind of pricey but not as bad as some in downtown Edmonton. Favorable overall.
I've been wanting to try this place for some time now and am so very pleased I finally did. The food was absolutely amazing and the portions were huge! Not at all what I expected from an "expensive/fancy" spot. The menu prices were actually very reasonable.... I've paid more for less satisfying dishes In town. The Service was also great, our waiter made good recommendations and described the dishes perfectly. Every item that came out of the kitchen passed our table looked so appetizing, I can't wait to go back and try them all!

We booked our reservation for 9:45 as we all had to work till 9. Everything was amazing except for the fact that we felt very rushed. We were the only table in there and it felt like everyone just wanted us to be finished. I was taking our corporate training team out for dinner as they had just worked two weeks straight and it was their first night off. We just wanted to relax and enjoy our meal without feeling like we were an inconvenience. Other than that everything was great, food was absolutely amazing, the server was very knowledgable and helpful with the menu. I will recommend the Hardware Grill to anyone who will listen. Thank you.

Great food, professional service, lovely room. Portions are a bit too big, so I would probably skip the appetizer next time. On the other hand, the food quality was so good that I would happily have paid the same price for a smaller portion.

We have been here 3-4 times previous and the food is always great. We had to wait a few times when our drinks were empty to re-order and the waiter knowledge on the menu was a little bit weak. We had asked opinions (and recommendations) and some of the menu items and didn't get much feedback. Very small issues, but when paying top dollar for the meal our expectations are higher, and we want the service to be top notch. Still a great restaurant and request the booth(s) by the kitchen!
Another Great Meal
This is an upscale dining experience where the staff make everyone feel comfortable. The menu is creative and every aspect of the meal is deliberately prepared and considered when putting the plates together. The atmosphere is very comfortable, yet elegant. There is enough background noise to let you know the place is alive, yet it is quiet enough to share a conversation with your dining companion.
After a two year wait.....
2 years ago we were given a gift certificate for our 50th wedding anniversary. Many things got in our way; including a death in the family, pet surgery for our beloved canine that required a time consuming recovery, blah, blah, blah..... Finally, we were able to be attended to by a wonderful server called CURTIS. Chef Larry and his brigade prepared a memorable meal for three of us, and we imbibed a little too. Great wine cellar.... Congrat's to 20 years ! I have told many, many people where to go for some "FINE DINING" Thanks for the evening. Keep up the super energy. Still a great place to eat
It was once again very enjoyable to visit the Hardware Grill last Saturday Night. The drinks, especially the Manhattan & their special margarita was GREAT! Food was exceptional. The waiter, was nice but not as knowledgeable about wine as expected. When we ordered a wine, he asked if it was red or white. When we ordered a different red after the first bottle of red, he changed our glasses but said he's going to use the same decanter as "it has already been readied by the other red wine" - interesting but unacceptable. He did bring another decanter when we asked. This is however minor, will dine there ANY TIME again. Thanks
Great food. Loved the sea bass and lobster crepe. $$$$. Service was slow.
Enjoyed the hardware grill...
Great place, great food. will be going back again
Good during Downtown Dining Week
We went for the downtown dining week, which included a 3 course meal for $48. The set menu for that was good, and a reasonable price. Looking at the regular menu, however, main course dishes seemed very overpriced. The smaller plates that would be good for sharing were much more reasonably priced. If I were to return I would only order smaller plates to share. As for the meal we had, our appetizers (goat cheese fritter salad and crispy duck on waffle) were both delicious. The duck appetizer was too large, however, and would have been the perfect size for a smaller main dish. For the main course, we had the chicken schnitzel and the pork chops. The pork was over salted for my taste, but was still enjoyable. The chicken schnitzel was also reasonably good, but nothing exceptionable. Both dishes were much too large and we could have easily shared one of the two between myself and my partner. There was also a noticeable lack of vegetables on both plates, something that was a little disappointing. Overall, it seems like hardware grill is definitely a good place to go, but because they are consistently rated so well they do not take into account some factors that other comparable restaurants do. For instance, at a fancy restaurant one expects proper serving sizes, and properly portioned plates. At Hardware grill, the serving sizes are in general too large, and the focus is on the protein of the dishes, leaving vegetables forgotten or totally lacking. Aside from the food, our dining experience was wonderful. The wait staff is exceptional. Everyone who served us was polite and professional, while also being friendly. The atmosphere of the place is also lovely, making it perfect for either a romantic dinner or to celebrate a special occasion.
Great birthday dinner
The butternut squash tortellini was excellent, as was the wild game (and the bites of steak I stole from my significant other's plate). Dessert was very nice too!
A great choice for downtown eats
We went to celebrate a special occasion during the downtown eats event. I had the duck confit with Gorgonzola on a Belgian waffle, pork tenderloin with mushrooms and polenta, and glenlivet butterscotch pudding. All three courses were fantastic and were a great deal with the downtown eats special. The only bad thing I could really say is that the pork might have been slightly overlooked and was therefore only the second best I've ever had. Large portions of food that you'd expect to instead be a small portion served on a really big plate. The wine list was well beyond my level of expertise but the server was very helpful in choosing something that would go with our meal. I would definitely recommend Hardware to a friend.
Great food and awesome service
It was our first time eating here during Downtown Dining Week and it was a great choice. It's a good place for a date! The food was delicious and the service was impeccable. We were really stuffed at the end of the 3 course meal! So don't eat too much prior to going.
Loved the Hardware Grill!
Our server made the experience phenomenal! We loved how personable he was; he was happy to answer our questions and made recommendations based on what we told him we enjoyed. The food was delicious, service exceptional and we have already recommended this restaurants to our friends. Thank you!
Glad to be back!
We have not been here for a while so I returned as I had a gift card and what a great experience! Our server was attentive and knowledgeable. The food was outstanding, don't miss the desserts! I appreciated the fact that although there was a famous Edmonton individual dining at the same time the restaurant and the diners were respectful and left him alone. We will be back again soon.
Food was a let down
We ate here for dinner. I was looking forward to the sunset menu, but was told it was dining week and the sunset menu was not available. So my dining mate went with the dining week menu and I picked an entree and a main from their regular menu. Honestly, the food was not good. I think it was more the strong cheese flavor that was overpowering, 2 out of 4 dishes was like this, the preparation was good, no faults there. But taste and texture wise, I didn't enjoy my meal as much as I expected to.
