The room is Frasier-and-Niles chic, but the lack of pretension is pure Martin Crane."
Hardware Grill Ratings and Reviews

This is a great restaurant and we had a memorable meal. The setting is in an actual old hardware store and although the restaurant was busy, the noise level was comfortable throughout the evening. My squash ravioli was rich and a perfect texture. My salmon with potato gnocchi was a spectacular dish and my only disappointment was that I was a bit too full to fully appreciate the very special gingerbread cake dessert!? My husband was very enthused about the short ribs and his other courses. This restaurant is easy to rave about!

Thank you for the opportunity to review the restaurant. It was my first time at Hardware Grill but it has been on my radar for many years. A friend of mine saw an article in the Edmonton Journal about the 20th anniversary of the restaurant and that, as part of the anniversary, there were some dishes offered at 1996 prices. Since we had always wanted to try the place out we thought this would be a good opportunity. I booked a table online and then I called ahead to ask about the specials. When we arrived (7:45) we were not informed about the specials at all so we asked our waiter and he told us that the specials were sold out. He said they were sold out of the specials and they had in fact been selling out all week. He also informed us that unless we had chosen to dine between 5-6 it was likely the specials would be sold out. I don't know about other people but I don't want to eat dinner between 5-6. I found this really disappointing since the lady on the phone had not told me beforehand that this would be the case. We had debated leaving but decided to give the place a chance. I really feel that if a restaurant is going to advertise special they should at least make it available to their customers.
I ordered the cedar plank salmon which I found was a touch overcooked. It was accompanied by gnocchi which had a herb (I think rosemary) that overwhelmed the dish. That taste stayed in my mouth for hours afterwards. I capped the meal off with a cup of tea but I think a palate cleanser would have been better.
To be honest I'm glad I tried the place out but it is unlikely I will come back or recommend it. The service was okay, not that attentive, which I found disappointing for a restaurant of that calibre and reputation. I've been to other nice restaurants in Edmonton and their service is impeccable which I think it should be for a higher end restaurant. I would be willing to try the Hardware Grill one more time but I'm in no rush to return.

We celebrated our daughter's 24th birthday and decided to go for a fix-menu ($50 per person) . It was such a lovely experience; every bite was absolute perfection. We had various entrees - pumpkin ravioli, hazelnut crusted chevre, soup..amazing. Main courses were equally delicious - salmon, mushroom and gnocchi, burger, short ribs. I have to say that, for the fixed menu portions were quite big. We ended up having their famous gingerbread for dessert and all of has had some doggy-bags to take home in the end. Definitely high-end place with professional waiters, wonderful atmosphere and outstanding quality meals.

Thank you Hardware Grill and thank you Shane! Enjoyed a wonderful evening of great food, wine and fantastic service. Our waiter Shane got it right on every point....asked us if we had eaten there before, did we know about the anniversary pricing, explained the menu, suggested a great bottle of wine, asked if we had to be somewhere at a certain time..... we replied off to the Winspear....impeccable service and great food .....thank you Shane!

My wife and I had the $50 3 course meals. The servings were huge. I recommend not getting more than one order of bread (that comes with the meal). The appetizers, entrees and desserts were amazing. Great restaurant, no wonder it's rated so high.

We were seated in a quiet area and were there early. Then a large group came in before the hockey game and were very boisterous. We were concerned about that but said nothing. The staff very sensitively asked us if we would like to move to a quieter part of the restaurant which we did with great appreciation

We had a group of 8. We wanted a really nice meal before the Oilers home opener at Rogers Place. Proximity to rink was good (quick ride or about 10-15 min walk). Service was great and the overall experience was really good. The food was excellent. All the appetizers were great and everyone really enjoyed their meals. A wide variety of entrees were ordered and all were superb. Also had a great wine selection. Definitely would recommend and certainly will be a repeat customer!

Our server was great, she did her best to rectify the problems with our food. Unfortunately the food was a disappointment. We have dined at Hardware before and have had great food, but this time the food was not good.

A promotion was offered for a two week period, but upon arrival we were told it was not available on Saturdays as the restaurant was too busy. Emailed the restaurant to complain and received a response full of excuses and no offer to attempt to remedy the situation.

My wife and I shared a beet salad and a KFC appetizer. Then, she had the Braised Beef Ribs and I had the Sea Bass entre. The dinner was wonderful, great atmosphere and excellent table service. As a repeat customer, Hardware Grill has never disappointed us!

Always a great meal. On the pricier side, but you definitely pay for what you get. The scallops were amazing, and we always enjoy the carpaccio. Steaks were cooked perfectly, and we even had some celebrity action seeing Conor McDavid dining there as well. Service was also excellent, our waiter was very friendly and witty

Haven't been here in years and came back to enjoy their special regarding their 20 year anniversary. Was every bit as good as I remember and love the choices and the waiters knowledge of the menu and possible selections.

It was our first visit to Hardware Grill for their Pop-Up Lunch. We tried the Cedar Plank Salmon and Lobster Linguini Prawns for our main entrees and for dessert we ordered the marble brownie and donut. It was very delicious!!! We can't wait to come back for dinner next time.

Excellent restaurant - a must for foodies! Great local ingredients and serious creativity has gone into their dishes. Staff was very friendly and knowledgeable about the menu and the history of the building/restaurant. Very unique setting; I highly recommend sitting by the kitchen for, essentially, a live performance of your meal!

We went to the Oilers game at Rogers place after dinner. Left a note when we reserved that we were going to the game. Arrived at 5:30 and the four of us were done eating by 6:20. We ordered, the food came quickly and the service was excellent. Thanks

Overall a good experience. Although most of the menu items I had no idea what they were so I chose a safety meal which ended up to be great! Would recommend for something fancy!

The occasion was my husbands birthday and we had not been to the restaurant in quite some time. We chose the fixed price menu which you can't go wrong with. I started with the Beef Carpaccio which was delicious (party in your mouth!). I also had the Crab Encrusted Salmon which was also yummy. Decent portions for all items. Service was excellent & well paced. Would definitely recommend for a fine dining experience.

Just an amazing overall experience. The food was very well presented and creative. The flavors were exquisite. The waiter was pleasant attentive , yet not overbearing. He was obvious a man who really understands and delivers quality customer service. The menus was very interesting.....would have love to try it all, but the next time!

Every time we go to the Hardware Grill we have an impeccable dining experience. The service is always extremely attentive and very professional, everyone knows what they are doing and they do it well. It seems like one of the rare establishments that rewards hard working employees, because they seem to stick around. Thank you for our wonderful dinner, it was very special and we were incredibly impressed- once again!

Great service but super pricey. Food was really good but it's hard for me to justify $18 for an appetizer of 3 tortellini. They were really good but I doubt worth the $$. They had a 3 special features at 1996 prices because it was their 20 anniversary. The appetizer and dessert special had liquor in them so I didn't order those. The main was salmon with mashed potatoes and veg. Not very imaginative at all so I paid $36 for the salmon on the menu. It was delicious but again nothing I eat is worth $36! The food was very creative with interesting taste combinations. Service and atmosphere were great but I'll only go on rare occasions. Just too pricey.

The interior and ambiance need a renovation. The food is too complicated and it is very expensive. There are other restaurants nearby that are much better and less expensive. It seems like it's time to reinvent the menu. The flavor profiles are far too complex. A lot less can be accomplished with less ingredients. For $34, the vegetarian plate is mediocre. The beet and chevre salad was very good, as was the KFC (fried cauliflower). Overall, we were disappointed that for 2 people, with 1 drink each, the bill was close to $200 after tip. There are better, more relevant options that are much better quality very close by.

I had the Elk tenderloin and that was very good. The problem was that the elk consisted of a quarter (coin) size tenderloin wrapped in undercooked bacon served on an overly thick layer of sweet potato taht only took away feom the Elk. The main meat in the plate was a huge braised short rib that had no taste to the meat only the sauce which was not reduced enough to add the flavour needed on the bland rib.
A very disappointing dish where the main ingredient was by no means the star of the dish. I expect much more from a restaurant with its reputation and prices.
The only reason 3 stars was business associate enjoyed the beef tenderloin.

Hardware Grill was worth it! Service was excellent and the food was outstanding. The portions were very generous -- too generous in fact! Really enjoyed our night out. We will be back again.
