I dine out far more frequently than I cook. I've eaten at fine establishments all over America. I'm also a bartender at a pretty classy joint. I value great food and great service, and I know them when I see them. At GW Fins you will get both. We sat with Tommy at the bar. He was superb in every sense of the word. TRY THIS PLACE! The excellent reviews are well-earned.

We came here for Anniversary dinner. We were running about 15 minutes late for our reservation but upon arrival we were very non chalantly greeted by hosted who proceeded to tell us she had just no showed us and told the other hostess to put our table back. I felt she could have kept that to herself didn't seem appropriate to say. Food was quality but flavors weren't bold enough for our palate. They did give us a keepsake menu wishing us a happy Anniversary and dessert which was nice. I would say if you like more understated food then this is the place otherwise you may be happier elsewhere.

The service was perfection. The food was high quality and delicious. The lobster dumplings rank up with one of the best appetizers or meals i have ever eaten. The sauce was perfect, the dumplings homemade and amazing. The soft shell crab appetizer equally amazing, perfect crisp, delicious sauce. And we are from Maryland! The swordfish was the best of the two entrees, a thick piece of fresh fish grilled to perfection. The mashed potatoe side was decadent. The red snapper was not as good, but high quality nonetheless. The crispy fried okra on top very good, but the shrimp creole was not enough, too few shrimp and too little sauce. The caramel bread pudding was a bit too sweet but good if you like very sweet. All in all a great dining experience, would definitely return.

One of the top rated restaurants in New Orleans so very nice but pretty big and popular. We had a great table in the corner and thank the restaurant for that. However, it is definitely a place for large groups or impressing colleagues. It is not cosy or romantic; there are better options elsewhere if that is what you are looking for.

I am a Celiac and it is such a treat to be able to order deep fried blue crab. It, and the whole meal for our party of four, was excellent. G W Fins is my place to be on Sunday night whenever we are in New Orleans!

Wonderful food and service. We had a reservation mix up and they were very helpful. Went with our kids and they enjoyed the seafood and atmosphere too. Soft shell crab appetizer is a must and the salty malty ice cream pie is like nothing you've had before. Go hungry!

One of my wife's and my favorite places to go for date night. As far as fish, the selection and quality is unmatched. Plenty of healthy options, though their dessert options give you plenty of opportunities to wreck a diet for a day. (The salty-malty pretzel caramel ice cream pie is worth the trip alone.) Wonderful friendly service. Get your reservations in advance though, because they fill up pretty quick.

We came there for dinner with a party of four and They sat us immediately at reservation time. We ordered apps, salads and entrees and everything was excellent! The filet and Scalibut were definitely worth coming back for!

Went with friends on our first time visit to New Orleans. Food was good, but if you are expecting a large Midwest-like quantity you will be disappointed, i.e., small fancy well presented portions. We did not leave hungry but had to snack back at hotel. Somewhat pricey for four people dining with one drink each (+$250) then tip. House specialty is a dish called Scalibut and was very good.

Our entire meal from start to finish was delicious, creative, fresh and beautifully presented. We had met friends in New Orleans for a few days and I was tasked with making dinner reservations. They both felt that this was the best meal we had had, and they are very very picky eaters. I was pleased that our experience this time was as positive as the two or three other times we have chosen to dine there. Worth every penny.

All round fab experience. I mentioned when booking on line that this was a meal to celebrate my husband's 50th birthday and they subtlety decorated the table. The service, food and drinks (inc recommendation on cocktails and a superb Californian Chardonnay) we all top notch.

Good food - good drinks - very nice atmosphere. Three out of four of us had their Scalibut - yes I said Scalibut !!! It's halibut with scallops somehow attached to the top of the halibut - but were delicious. Yes - they had great bread too .............

This was the second time we've eaten at GW Fins on two trips to New Orleans in the past few years. I was hoping the experience would be as great as I had remembered, and it did not disappoint. The restaurant has a good crowd which feels pretty hip. The food was amazing, and service excellent. The lobster ravioli, tuna tacos, and pork appetizers were all excellent, and I don't think we left one scrap. I split the scallop entree served on a rich mushroom risotto. It was filling, and we were happy we split. The two men in our party got the swordfish, which they enjoyed as well. The praline ice cream pie was excellent, as was the wine list and coffee. As much as I like to try new restaurants when on vacation, I will have to return to GW Fins the next time we're in NOLA.

We had one of the best meals in NOLA here. They get all their fish fresh, most is from La, and its prepared very well. Great classic cajun dishes mixed with asian flair. service was outstanding, very knowledgeable staff and great views of the quarter from the floor to ceiling windows.

All a little hurried. The waiter ordered the wrong entree which resulted in me waiting whilst my husbands food was cold, subsequently we had to request for his food to be taken back and kept warm. Also a main ingredient on my plate missing when it did eventually arrive. Attention to detail lacking. Had to ask for more wine and none offered. Also noted that other diners complained about dress policy as it was clear there were exceptions made to certain diners and not others.
Portions very small on the gnocchi entree.
We dined here due to the excellent reviews as we were staying at Hotel Marazin. Personally we had a much better dinner experience at the rib room, where I honestly couldn't fault a thing.
It was a shame.

The overall experience was outstanding. Our wait staff was attentive and friendly. The Maitre de was a little tacky when he moved a couple in the private dining room to seating in the main dining room. His selection of the couple was obviously biased. I would still dine at GW Fins.

We arrived early and had drinks at the cool bar. Great ironworks. Service impeccable and the fish was fresh, well prepared. We asked for window table when we reserved and they accommodated. Server also greeted us by name when he came to table. We recommend highly.

Amazing restaurant... especially for an anniversary or special occasion. Let them know of the special day ahead of time! Fresh local seafood - wonderful combinations. Excellent appetizers, incredible entrees, and not-to-miss desserts. Staff are a perfect compliment to the wonderful food too! A definite must in New Orleans!
We could not have been happier with all the special touches for our 20th Anniversary - GW Fins went above and beyond to make our night perfect! Will never forget! Can't thank them enough!

We were so disappointed in GW fins. It was so corporate. We cancelled our reservations at galatoires b/c we had heard that the fish was amazing. It was ok, but not great. We loved our waiter as a person, but the service was not good. Our bill was $150 for a so so experience. I would never recommend this restaurant.

Great restaurant! Soft shell crabs were perfect as was the blackened swordfish. The atmosphere is a little more upscale in dress code. Our server Ryan, was very attentive and so was the orher staff. Go if you get a chance, you won't be disappointed.

Amazing experience!... The food was so good and the ambient and décor were great. Impressive wine selection and despite that it's not your average restaurant, the prices were not high; they were quite good. I would recommend this place to anyone. But this is not your "Olive Garden"; so, don't show up in flip-flops, shorts or t-shirts. This place is great for a date night or a special occasion celebration without outrageous prices.

We were celebrating my wife's one year of being cancer-free and chose this highly rated restaurant. Everything was top-notch. The ambiance, the service, the drinks, the menu, the delicious food all made this a special evening. I strongly suggest the scalibut!
