Grünauer Ratings and Reviews
I went during restaurant week to get a feel for the place. The food was amazing. The service was fast. The staff was friendly and helpful. Wonderful experience. If the regular prices are a bit much for you, definitely check them out during restaurant week. Their lunch was very filling.
My group enjoyed their food. It was great.
The service was great. He kept our water glasses filled and inq very enjoyable lunchuired if everything was ok.
After eating, we sat and visited and did not feel rushed by the waitstaff to vacate the table.
A very enjoyable lunch.
Would do it again.
I've been there several times with out-of -town guests. I lived in Germany and enjoyed visits to Austria, so the Grünauer is a fantastic find in KC. Expect authentic and delicious Austrian and Bavarian style food as well as modern German/Austrian cuisine. It's like being at mama's in a homey yet modern, beautiful old train station setting. It's just a stroll over the walking bridge to Union Station and Crown Center. Of course there's also an excellent beer and wine selection!
We were celebrating a birthday, and KC was celebrating Restaurant Week. Three of us ordered the special two-course lunch and were delighted. The birthday honoree ordered a Schnitzel and was extremely pleased; the portion was large enough for him to enjoy later. Those who ordered beer enjoyed their choices. The dessert, Topfstrudel, was scrumptious! The service was excellent: efficient and attentive but not overly solicitous. Our corner seating was pleasant, and the sound level was acceptable--friendly but not boisterous. We live about 45 miles away, but we'll be back!
Everything was perfect - we made reservations and were sat right away, our service was top-notch, the schnitzel was delicious, and the staff were busy yet still all smiles. I recommend Grunauer to all my friends and family for special occasions, date nights and (in our case) Restaurant Week. Thanks!
The food was dry, and boring. It seemed like it was made days earlier and then just rewarmed neither of us enjoyed our meal and did not bring it home ...we were there for restaurant week and I thought the idea behind Restaurant Week was to hook new customers, we will not be going back.
The food here is extremely well-prepared and savory. Beer cheese soup was truly exceptional. Butter Schnitzel was reminiscent of Europe dining, if a smidgeon salty. An excellent selection of craft German beers; we especially enjoyed the hefeweizen from the world's oldest brewery. The service was impeccable--highly attentive but not intrusive. I would say that we had a reservation and the first table they gave us was right next to the front door and drafty--disappointing. But when we expressed our desire to move, they quickly and graciously accommodated us with a nice table. Overall, highly recommend!
This was our third time to eat here. As always the food was authentic and excellent.
The waiter was informative, friendly, and did an outstanding job.
It is as good as the restaurants that we have dined at in Austria and Germany.
I cannot wait to go back for lunch and dinner.
Our server was friendly, professionally attentive, and took very good care of us. Cocktails were well prepared and enjoyed. My wife's special scallop starter was indeed special, an inventive dish and tasty. Our three sides were authentically delicious. Sadly my classic Wiener Schnitzel was disappointing: nearly tasteless, mushy crust, and to be avoided in the future. What was I thinking? Next time, I'm going for the spicy Hungarian goulash.
Food tasted as if it had been left over from previous day.
Building was cold. Most diners were wearing their outer coats.
Our first experience with "German" food. If this was an accurate representation of it, I feel sorrow for Germany.
Service was satisfactory.
