Great Maple San Diego Ratings and Reviews

Quite disappointed at this restaurant. We made a reservation and then showed up about 15 minutes before our reservation. We let the desk know we were there and were told we would have to wait for 15 minutes until our reservation. That was ok and we waited - 30 minutes later we asked and they said our table was being cleaned. Another 15 minutes later and we finally were seated. The server showed up quickly and took our drink orders. I also asked about a brunch scramble that had bacon in it if the bacon could be substituted with something else. He suggested the Turkey Sausage since I do not eat pork. He checked with the chef and came back to tell us we would need to pay for the sausage as a separate side item but would receive no credit for removing the bacon from the scramble. I thought this was pretty petty of the restaurant - but I ordered the Turkey Sausage. About 40 minutes later, our food arrived and my plate was very small with very small portions. My spouse's plate, which consisted of french toast with Bacon and syrup over it was gigantic. Also, the sides that she ordered were much larger than my portions of eggs.
A very disappointment meal - our first meal at this restaurant and I honestly cannot recommend.

Looked forward to this restaurant from the reviews, though our experience was pretty mediocre. Not bad, but not special. The drinks (a raspberry old fashioned and a sage-flavored whiskey drink) were crammed with fresh ingredients, but too crammed... making them like trying to drink from a potted plant. The flavors were a little muddled -- like there was a lot of effort put into it, but nothing quite stood out. Our meals were the veal meatballs, which were the more successful, and the caramel short ribs. Apparently the short ribs are a customer favorite, migrating from the appetizer menu to the main courses over time, but I found the sweetness to be unbalanced by anything else... either savory or spice, or heat. Consequently, it was pretty one-note. We also had the shaken-break appetizer, which was good. So, overall, though the service was very friendly, this diner-turned-into-a-hipster restaurant just didn't seem to rise to the level everyone claimed.

I love this place. Found it on Yelp, when my first choice in San Diego wasn't available. The place is crazy busy....so do yourself a favor....make reservations. When we arrived, there must have been 50 people waiting outside......it was craziness on Sunday morning. We tried the maple bacon doughnuts....fantastic....but be aware, you get 3 to an order.....you'll end up taking some home!!! We tried the pork bell entrée and the brisket popover....both were incredible. Orange juice is freshly squeezed, and the coffee is great.

Food was great but overpriced. I frequent high end restaurants and Great Maple certainly is not one yet their prices are similar to a restaurant at a high end resort. There were 3 in our group, myself, my wife, and our 10 year old son. I got the French toast, my wife got a veggie sandwich, and my son got the kids silver dollar pancakes (which literally was just 3 silver dollar sized pancakes). My son's meal was supposed to come with a scrambled egg but he chose to substitute for bacon. When it arrived it literally was 1 slice of bacon. I had a cup of tea, my son had a glass of milk, and my wife had a glass of the cheapest wine they had. That's all we had and we paid $82 for it. It was not an $82 meal in my opinion. Again, the food was great but... not that great if you know what I mean.
Also, the restaurant was way too noisy and squishy in my opinion. Parking was very difficult as well. We arrived on time for our reservation but couldn't find a parking spot. After a few minutes we called to tell them we were just trying to find a spot to park and would be right in. When we finally got parked and to the hostess stand we were informed our reservation was cancelled because we were 8 minutes late but that they would seat us as soon as is possible. We ended up waiting an additional 10 or 15 minutes to get seated.
I will say that our server was very nice and attentive. I very much appreciate the food quality (i.e. free grazing, cage free, organic, etc.) and it tasted very good... not the best thing I've ever had but definitely very good. The prices just did not jive for a place that essentially is a side of the road diner. I've paid less or the same for breakfast at the Del Mar Grand and the Rancho Santa Fe Inn than I did at this place. And those places have a way nicer atmosphere and better tasting food.

Went back for dinner after having a bad breakfast experience the weekend before and man, was it worth it! We wanted to try as mych as we could so we got teas, lavender lemonade, and started with the Pop overs. They were light and crisp and the drinks delicious. The main event were the entrees with a delicious french dip ,but really the Salted Carmel Ribs were Divine !!! Finished dinner with maple bacon donuts which were interestingly good. Overall all great experience and well worth the price.

We had always enjoyed Great Maple since it's opening, but the menu changes, poor waitstaff, and noise have made us reconsider. The even told us that the patio was not open - very strange considering the weather, restaurant-week timing, and number of people.

Had lunch here with a friend who I hadn't seen in a couple of years. I love the food and creative menu, but I always forget how LOUD the place can get. I've never had a meal here where the table wasn't straining to hear the conversations. The fact that the restaurant is full isn't the issue, it's the volume at which the music is played. C'mon Man!
Anywho...the wait staff was awesome as was the quiche that I ordered at the rock shrimp flatbread my friend had.

We were amazed that the lines and the reviews refer to Great Maple so I can only assume it is a beloved place for locals regardless of food and/or what we ordered were not among their best dishes. We ordered the scrambled egg whites with avocado toast and fruit and the poached eggs over popovers with spinach, mushrooms, tomatoes and hollandaise...herbed potatoes on the side. The popovers were dry and the herbed potatoes were tasteless. We left the egg whites on the plate. Famous for their french toast, be prepared for two log-like pieces of bread drenched in syrup...not sure. Service was disappointing...the waitress simply forgot us! Not auspicious for a return visit.

I made a reservation ahead of time but we still had to wait over 20 minutes to be seated. The service was very pleasant, but extremely slow. I understand servers can be busy but they appeared well staffed that day, so I didn't expect to wait forever. Food was over priced for the amount that you get. I ordered the daily special and they ran out of the main ingredient by 11:30. Overall, I might try it again, but I've been to many places that are cheaper and have outstanding food. However, if you do try it - you must order the bacon donuts! They definitely were to die for!

We got a table pretty fast although they didn't have my reservation booked, now I don't know if it was the restaurant problem or an app problem.

Service and food were very good. However, I made out reservation online about an hour and 15 minutes before we arrived at the restaurant. Even though I had a confirmation on my phone to show the hostess, it was no where in their system. However, we were early enough that we were seated right away.

One of the best brunches were ever had. Definitely make a res, we got in less than 5 mins with our res. Highly recommend the waffle lollipops and Beignets. We ordered the Florence brunch (polenta, mushroom, egg), portobella brunch and the tofu dish - all amazing :) portions are pretty big, esp after lollipops and benignets. Service was great and they brought out a special dessert for our special occasion. Nothing bad to say

It's really good food and probably has the best decor of any breakfast place in San Diego, but it's overpriced. 2 eggs with potatoes and toast =$13. Side of bacon=$6. Anything involving both eggs and meat=$15+. $10+ bloody marys. $9+ mimosas. The lengthy wait to get a table at this place clearly proves that people are willing to pay the price, but I don't anticipate going back.

Delicious food! Especially the fried chicken bento box, goat cheese spring rolls, salad, and key lime pie. The ambiance is quietly hip. Fun inventive cocktail list (cocktail of the day was Black Forest Margarita). Highly recommend Great Maple.

Great Maple offers some of the best value (combination of taste + ingredients + service) in San Diego. Better than expected. Casual with a nice, cozy environment. Everything we tried was tasty. They offer both good meat and vegetarian options depending on which way you swing. I ordered a market price fish plate, and the price was not outrageous as at other restaurants. The desserts were good too but just a touch too sweet. The only shortcoming was a lack of local San Diego brews on tap. They only had 1 or 2 available. Overall, Great Maple hit the spot!
