Fleming's Steakhouse - Walnut Creek Ratings and Reviews
This was my first time dining at Flemings - we were there to celebrate Mom's 70th birthday. I have to say that based on what I had heard, I was slightly underwhelmed by my meal. The service was EXCELLENT and the ambiance was nice...but I had expected more of my $46. I simply was not that impressed. But Mom was happy and that's really all that mattered.
Flemings is an establishment steakhouse, at home in New York City, Chicago or Walnut Creek. Although we don't eat red meat, the restaurant offers many, many options including lobster, shrimp, scallops and wonderful salads. The seared ahi tuna is a standout. It is expensive and I think some items are over priced including the cocktails and desserts. But for a special occasion, it's worth the money.
We planned dinner for New Year's Eve at 5:00 PM. We chose Flemings because their food is amazing. We love the steak options, including the filet and rib eye, and my son loves their wonderful pork chop. The "sides to share" are perfect and have excellent options. The Flemings potato bake is delicious. Save room for dessert, because the Molten Chocolate Cake, New York Cheese Cake and Crème Brulee are great. We have eaten here at least 4 times, and we have always enjoyed the food. It is an expensive restaurant, about $100 / person if you have a drink. So, we save Flemings for special occasions when we want to have the best! Enjoy!
A trip to Fleming's is always a great experience, although the dining room is less than intimate. This trip, for Christmas eve dinner, was in lieu of our usual restaurant for the last 13 years, Lark Creek Inn, which closed last year. Going to Fleming's, we took it up a notch. Arriving a bit early for our 7:30 reservation, we were immediately seated - a good sign of things to come.
Positives: the small plates (shrimp and scallop with grits and a tomato-butter sauce; the other a sliced filet with a fantastic risotto) were wonderfully prepared and the perfect size for my 20 yr old daughters; the bacon in the fried brussels sprouts was thick, sweet and wonderfully caramelized; and the prime rib, a Sunday special deal, was cooked a perfect medium rare, came with 3 great sauces, salad, side and dessert (we had creme brulee and the lava cake). We also added a mac & cheese for the table - rich and creamy and well worth the extra cost and calories.
Negatives: the salads came a bit too quickly (while we were still finishing our drinks) and part of our leftovers were not packed up as we had asked, which we didn't discover this until we arrived home.
Overall, the food was a bit more upscale and the service was also a notch up from Lark Creek. But then again, so are the prices. If you can, go to Costco and pick up some gift cards to help reduce the cost.
One of the hosts stopped by during the meal to say hello and chat with us about experience after having read our reservation notes. It is this kind of special touch that makes for an outstanding experience. Fleming's is certain to please for special occasions.
We love this place any day but it was also my husband’s birthday. As usual the food was amazing and the service was on point. Wish they would bring back the Wagyu strip but until then the aged rib-eye and a filet did us well. We appreciated the extras to make his birthday special. Stay awesome and we’ll stay coming back.
Bday , service was poor, brought two plates of shell fish under cooked, and brought out a persons desert with four spoons assuming it was to share, then they said they would take of price for pre fix meal but still charged for desert, which they removed when asked, disappointing because we have been to Fleming’s many times prior and had exceptional food and service, it seems like they have changed management, but it is not for the better, not sure we will go back now.
The food and service was great. Unfortunately there was a very large party (at least 20 people) sitting at a table next to us who were having a very good time at the expense of all the other diners. It was almost impossible to hear anyone at our table talking even if we were talking very loudly.
The service and food are generally very good at this Flemings. Our last experience was greatly impacted when a Christmas party of about 20 was seated in the main dining area causing a great amount of noise. We left shortly after we could no longer hear one another at our own table. Recommend making sure parties are not booked in main dining area before you make a reservation.
Food was amazing as always, but the service could have been better.
I'll start by stating that I've frequented a Flemings location in San Diego and never had anything short of 5 stars.
Food - 5 stars. The food is always amazing. The menu is great and the kitchen is definitely on par with the best.
Busser - 5 stars. our busser was on point. Courteous, quick, and efficient. Great service.
What I didn't like about this visit wasn't one but several things.
1) I made a reservation for 7pm and showed up exactly on time. Our table wasn't ready and we had to wait 20 minutes. What is the point of a reservation if I'm waiting 20 minutes? I made a reservation in advance, I showed up on time, it's your job to make sure the table is ready. Pretty simple stuff.
2) after ordering our server failed to take away the fourth place setting so we dined with an extra set of flatware, glassware, and dishes for a couple hours. Honestly not a big deal but.... really?
3) also after ordering it somehow took the server 15 minutes to get the soup. I'm pretty sure the soup was ready before opening and sitting in a pot just needing to be ladled and garnished. I asked about it after 12 minutes or so and he said "I'm waiting on it". Then, a few minutes later he showed up with it and it has a film on it. Still delicious but c'mon man don't lie about it.
4) lastly, another small thing but they add up after a while. It also stands out even more because we've been to other comparable restaurants as well as a Flemings. Our server never crummed our table. I'm sure you're reading this thinking "wow, who cares" but as someone who has worked in fine dining for years in the past and frequents fine dining now you just expect a minimum level of service and professionalism.
I will say that management was nice, they made sure to redirect me when I was headed the wrong way to the bathroom. And our server did take our valet ticket in advance so the car could be ready when we left.
We all had Steaks with added Lobster and Crab. I really wanted to like this place and rave about how amazing the steaks were but honestly they were good but not phenomenal which is what I expected for a $60 steak. They came slightly over cooked but not enough for me to send back. The management made it clear they were perfectly willing to send it back and fix the problem, which I really appreciated. We had the Brussels Sprouts with bacon which were excellent. The Chocolate lava cake for dessert came with two generous scoops of ice cream and whip cream and cookies which was a nice touch but the actual lava cake was not out of this world good.
Net net, I loved the ambiance and the service but I would not go back unless I needed a formal restaurant to take clients.
This is a good steak house offering. I especially appreciated the “smaller plates” section, where I found a great sliced filet with risotto in a smaller portion than the standard (usually too big for me) sizes. Nice ambience, good food, good service. We will go back.
I am still ker-fuddled as to why our confirmed Dinner Reservation was "cancelled by the Restaurant" hours before our reservation!! No one at the Restaurant had an explanation or for that matter, an apology.
This did not make our special evening start out well...AND...I lost our Open Table points, which I had to call and re-instate.
Food...Ambience..Wine, as always, was very good. Waiter, though efficient, continued to use the phrase " you two" multiple times, which was annoying.
We go to Flemings to celebrate family birthdays. This time, the shoestring fries weren’t as good. Our waiter disappeared and we had to ask a manager to refill our drinks. When they brought the food to our table, they just set it anywhere and i had to ask the waiter to rearrange the dishes since plates are very hot. From all the times we’ve been there, this was my least favorite
Flemings is a very romantic steakhouse and décor is very elegant but comfortable. Besides steaks of all kinds the menu also includes salmon, sea bass, chicken and chops, but we were here for the special Thanksgiving Day set menu that was absolutely excellent. It consisted of lobster bisque, herb roasted turkey breast, house-made brioche stuffing, mashed potatoes, green beans, and sweet potatoes. Flemings really had its act together. Seating was available exactly at our reservation time and the service orchestrated by Daniel and his assistants was spot on. Moreover, several assistant managers kept circulating to see if everything was okay. Cocktails are creative and strong and there is a terrific wine by the glass list containing about 100 choices. In Walnut Creek parking is often a concern, but there is an adjacent parking garage and valet service is available. So excellent food, great ambiance and service, good wine and cocktails and easy access, what more could one want?
I wish it wasn’t so dark in there. Also we had to ask to move when they showed us the table. Was directly in front of the door and the hostess desk. The restaurant was empty so I don’t understand why you would put guests there. Made for a bad start on a special occasion.
