Let me start of by stating this place is perfect for a date night. I made reservations because I heard it gets busy, which it did. The Halloween decorations were great. They did not take away from the overall good vibes.
Now the 2 most important items, service and food!!!! Both amazing. The calamari was definitely the best I've had around the DMV. Food has an authentic Italian taste, as I just visited Italy this year and was in the hunt for a tomato sauce as good as.
Overall I give the restaurant a 5 star. Please know it is a bit pricier than your common chains but it's worth it. With the portion size the price matches.

This place came so highly recommended....George Bush and Clint Eastwood(not personally, but written on the menu by the owners) and I can only surmise We must have caught them on a bad night. Great place but TERRIBLE food. Olive garden shines, no, possibly GLOWS, next to this place. Massive portions of glob. The sort of stuff they used to splash out in Boston's North End. Didn't know these cooks still got away with it, or even existed! Stay away if you know real pasta.
Wait staff were nice. I would hate to have to present this stuff to the unsuspecting public and expect tips, not that I didn't tip our man hansomely !!!

The atmosphere here is so much fun. We went in October and the Halloween decorations were fantastic. The food is terrific and there is so much to choose from, no one leaves hungry! The desserts are "to die" for!! A must place to visit when you're in DC.

Over-priced for mediocre food. Nothing unique and certainly not traditional Italian but cheesy Americanized Italian. Ambiance was horrific-pun intended as every book and cranny was decorated for Halloween. Felt like I was on the Haunted Mansion ride at Disney.

I love this place. From the authentic, seasonal Italian food to the outrageous seasonal decor, you are in for a good time. Service is wonderful from host to busser. You feel like part of the family when you're done. Block out couple hours to get the full experience.

The service was great, even when the waiter knocked over a drink and water with a menu. The crew that helped clean up during a busy dinner time was fabulous and waiter was very apologetic and it did not ruin our evening.
Dinner and desserts were awesome!

Always love this place! Food is amazing and comes out quickly. Not the place if you want a quiet whispering type of conversation but a great place if you're looking for energetic fun times and great food and drinks!

Very good food. Well prepared Italian classics. Service was outstanding despite the fact that the restaurant was packed with a wait outside. Portions were enormous and shareable (we should have). The restaurant was heavily decorated for Halloween which my children thought was amusing and didn't bother the adults.

We were expecting great Italian food and we were disappointed. The lobster dish was fishy and drenched in cream sauce. The pasta special chicken ravioli was okay. Pasta was cooked to perfection but again, this meal was drenched in a red sauce that lacked flavor. Interesting experience but I wouldn't go back.

Went for lunch on a Saturday and the place was a madhouse. While I empathize with the front of the house staff who were doing their best to keep things moving, they were quite curt and terse. Although we had reservations, serveral walk-in diners were seated before us. The decor is tacky but the food is good. Our waiter was skilled but the staff was clearly overwhelmed so service overall was slow and inattentive. This restaurant is a Georgetown staple but I'd only recommend going during off-peak days/hours.

First time I have dined here. This is like the Italian food I grew up with in New York. Hard to find authentic Italian in the DC Metro area anymore. Service was good, food delicious. We were not rushed. Overall an excellent dining experience.

Filomena never disappoints with the right level of energy and ambiance coupled with great service. The food is very good with substantial portions. Expect a solid meal with portions often left over for lunch the next day. Always expect at least a 30 minute wait to be seated but it's well worth it and just part of the overall experience. Desserts are the highlight of the menu.

We chose this as a way of meeting up with old friends whom we hadn't seen for nearly a decade.
On the positive side, the decor, presentation, and service were excellent. At this price level, the food should be more interesting. We all chose pasta. One of our party really enjoyed the family-style pasta, but the other three dishes were all smothered in cream, and distinctly unsubtle. Portions were generous, almost to a fault. Won't be going back, because we were looking for a larger range of memorable special tastes.

Overall, everything was very good. Excellent service, and the food was great. It just wasn't what everyone seems to rave about. The pesto dish was pretty much pasta floating in a pool of pesto. It lacked pizzaz and could use more flavor kick. The bread served with each meal is amazing, and that pesto is incredible. The wine menu is extensive, but there are only a few beers available. At the end of the meal, the server brought out the amaretto and sambuca. He just sat them down and didn't explain what they were. I love trying new things, but that required some explanation. The experience was good but underwhelming based on what we were expecting.

Filomena used to be great, but in the last several years it has gone signifiantly down hill. Instead of focusing on the food, they now focus on catering to tourists. The food quality has gone down, the service is down right abysmal and they have packed so many tables into this basement restaurant that you are consistantly dodging chairs, trays and other people while dining. It's sad, it used to be one of my favorites.

I was less than impressed with both food and service. The best part about it was the elaborate Halloween decorations. The food was mediocre and overpriced and the service was poor. I'm shocked it has such good ratings.

This was one of the coolest restaurants we have ever been to with the best Halloween decorations you will ever see! Wow, do they ever like Halloween! I had one of the best & largest lasagne orders I have ever had (and I LOVE lasagne!). If you want an awesome Italian restaurant, this is it!!

The food is very good, but I found the service poor. We had to wait a half hour for our table even with a reservation. Our server was not friendly. The restaurant was so dark with had to use our phones to read the menu. Also the portions were more in keeping with family style, yet our server did not explain this. So we wasted a lot of food since we were traveling and could not bring the food with us.

My friend and I were on vacation wanted to go to Georgetown restaurant. The restaurant is overpriced and the food is nothing that I would want again. We had the calamari and that was terrible. I think the squid was spoiled. We had the beef tortellini for dinner. It was shredded beef that was drowning in sauce. I am from RI and Italian restaurants are a specialty there. This was the worst Italian restaurant that I have been to. I would never eat there again or tell anyone to eat there. The waiter and the wait staff were very friendly and the restaurant was decorated in a Halloween theme so that was fun.

Now we know what the fuss if all about: great service, varied menu, delicious food, huge portions, festive atmosphere. We made a reservation about a week in advance for Sunday lunch, but they were great about adding a person the day before. Our waiter was helpful with suggestions, kept the bread coming, graciously wrapped our leftovers (which fed us for two more days), and generally made us feel welcome and pampered at every turn. We will definitely return and bring more family members, especially for a birthday or special occasion, even though this was a great place for a casual meal on a weekend too.
