Donatello Ratings and Reviews
Atmosphere is great, service was top notch, food was amazing! Can't believe it took me living here 5 yrs to eat here! We will be back often! One of my favorite restaurants in Tampa now! If you haven't eaten here make reservations now! You will not be disappointed!
The service was impressive, to say the least. The food, however, was just meh. Honestly, I've had better from chain restaurants and expected better. For the price of the entrees, there should have been more food - such as a soup or salad to start. The bread served at the table was hard, crusty, and served with cold, hard pats of butter - leaving a plate of crumbs by the time it was done. Dessert was good, but again, not out of this world. The value was poor. We dropped $120 for a half bottle of Chianti, two "meh" entrees, and shared one serving of tiramisu. It was a nice atmosphere, but not worth the expense.
The meal and service were superb!! Went for anniversary, and all wait staff offered congratulations. Extensive wine list. I had the veal chop that was exquisite, and my wife had the grouper with lemon butter sauce, peppers, and crab meat. All were fantastically well prepared and delicious. Had a wonderful evening, and we will be back!!!
It gets tiresome to just say Donatello's was great again, but it was! Again! Over the years it is easy to become so familiar with a place that we take it for granted. Don't allow that to happen here. I always try a chicken or veal dish; I always try the Caprese salad; I always try one of their pasta dishes even if we share it around the table. By far, the best pasta is their bolognese fetticuinne and always works. My favorite veal is the picatta but the waiters will always work to find a nice glass of wine if you don't want to purchase a whole bottled. Still one of the finest in Tampa!
We’ve wanted to try this restaurant for several years, mostly on history and reputation. Upon entering, the decor, although tasteful, is very dated. I prefer a more contemporary atmosphere but that’s personal choice. The wine list is extensive and varied. However, many selections were overpriced, even for restaurant pricing.
We had a party of seven. Each person ordered different first courses and entrees. All were excellent. No issues with the food at all. The preparation and presentation were all top notch. The biggest problem with this restaurant is the prices are very high. We had 2 bottles of wine totaling $164. Subtracting those, the bill for seven people, no additional drinks, was $390, which to me is high for Italian food.
Bottom line, the food and service both are flawless. If you don’t mind the high prices, then it’s a great place to dine.
Haven't been to Donatello's in several years as we were living out of state much of the year. The place is still fantastic - the food, the people greeting you and serving the food and the atmosphere. This is the best place to eat dinner in Tampa, in my opinion...
We have been dining at Donatello's for approximately twenty years. We travel about 50 miles from home to do this. I think that tells you what we think of this wonderful restaurant. We miss seeing Guido there as before and love seeing him when he is. But, Gino is managing things there in a truly professional manner.
The wait staff is efficient, polite, professional, well trained and pleasant. A real landmark for Tampa.
We were in town for a business meeting and Donatello's was highly recommended. The recommendations did not disappoint, the food and service was great. If I had any complaint it would be the price, very expensive. I highly recommend Donatello's for special occasions. The food, owner and wait staff are the best.
Overall the place was very average with a above average price. We went to celebrate our anniversary and the food was just just average , we ordered a crab linguine that had no flavor just a very bland taste and for a $40 dollar plate it should have been amazing. We were there celebrating a special occasion and they brought us a free dessert with a candle and provided my wife with a rose which was very nice but the service was lacking also and took to long for the server to come by table , my soda being empty too often .
The food was excellent, very authentic. Upon arrival our party was greeted personally and individually by Gino. The wait staff was on the ball with multiple ppl handling different tasks to keep the drinks full and the table clear. The staff checked on us ocassioablly n appropriately..we didn’t feel bombarded or interrupted. Our salads, meals, cocktails..even the check..came out in good time with appropriate gaps btwn courses. The ambiance was intimate n wonderful. The prices were well worth it based on staff, food quality, ambiance..etc. As we left, my friend n I were both given long stem roses! It was a wonderful end to a fabulous dinner!!!! We will definitely b returning.
Went for opera night what can I say it is one class act . The opera singers put on awesome show The authentic Northern Italian cuisine was as good or better The atmosphere and the ambience are fantastic it truly is a Knight in Italy from the individual handshake when you are greeted right down to the Rose at the end of dinner upon leaving this is truly the best Northern Italian restaurant in Tampa
Service was outstanding... we were greeted individually with a handshake and welcome. Table was spot on. Food was fabulous although it took a bit too long to arrive. Unfortunately, we were disappointed that this Italian restaurant didn't have Canolis and was out of (my favorite) creme brûlée ...
We went for our anniversary and the whole experience was wonderful. Our waiter had a great pace when serving us and the food came out fast. The two dishes we orders we could have not asked for better. The location has many details to admire and is nice overall.
I was really looking forward to dining here after all the positive reviews. However, I wasn't impressed and won't be returning. Upon arrival, we stood in the foyer waiting for someone to acknowledge our presence for over 5 minutes while staff walked right by us. Finally, someone helped us find our seats. The food was incredibly average for the cost. The bruschetta's tomatoes were not up to par, but were instead mealy and under ripe. The bread was just regular thin sliced italian bread toasted. I ordered the mushroom pasta with garlic and olive oil and honestly for $28, I expected more. It was just ok. The cappuccino and creme brulee were good, but again, nothing out of the ordinary. I was never offered a refill on my coffee. The service was good, not too intrusive, but attentive to our needs as I would expect from a restaurant of this caliber. My friends seemed to enjoy their meal. One had shrimp pasta and the other had the fish special. For almost $100 for my meal, let's just say I was underwhelmed.
this place is outstanding ,I have been there 5 to 6 times always like to bring new people, this time had family and was on group of 48 men have went here and said this maybe be the best rest they have been in ,they will all come at somtime.i will be back in nov 17 looking forward to dining I like this rest and always come back thank you and your outstanding group.
Loved being greeted at the door by the older gentleman in the suit. Maybe the owner, perhaps. He was so sweet. I am 9 months pregnant and this was our last date night before the big day and he and the waiters were just so sweet. Loved getting roses at the end of the night too. Food was good....not life changing, but good. We will be back to try other things for sure as the service was top notch.
There are only a handful of true dinning experiences in the Tampa Bay Area, Donatello’s is the only place we go for true and authentic Italian cuisine. The owners are a staple of what it means to care for not only your guest but your employees as well. Service is always top notch.
Gino always comes by and checks on our meal and service with a kind gentle introduction, something my wife cherishes!
Simple put one of the best dinning experiences you will have
