da Maurizio Ratings and Reviews
Da Maurizio never disappoints! We returned for our anniversary October 14th. Food and service were excellent, as usual. Calamari is an excellent starter. All pasta dishes that we have tried are excellent. We highly recommend this restaurant for excellent Italian food and excellent service.
I am very disappointed in the confusion over our meals and the lack of response to my email. Our server got the orders mixed up at the table. I don't have a problem with this but I do have a big problem with her sending me home with someone else's doggy bag because she wrote the wrong seating number on our bags I assume due to the original confusion at the table. Kind of gross! When we were leaving my dinner companion questioned the server to ensure we were getting the right bags and were assured that we were. When I spend $25 on a pasta I would expect to take home my own leftovers and not someone else's. Less than impressed that no one even bothered to respond to my email when I noticed having the wrong food. I would have expected more from such a high class restaurant.
Great Italian restaurant, food was great, my only disappointment would have been the waitress, there was something that didn't seam right. She could have had an off night to. Seafood stew had lots of seafood in it, only thing was a little too much curry but still ate the whole thing. Overall great place to eat, great atmosphere, place was hard to find, had to call them we walk by twice couldn't see it tuck in a corner right next to the Marriott
Dinner and service were excellent as usual. When using open table to book special requests are not seen in time to honour these requests. Diabetic dessert was requested but not available on short notice we were told by our waiter. You must call with any special dietary requests.
I pains me to have to write this review after 20+ years of patronage.
We normally celebrate our anniversary at da Maurizio with a supper but this year circumstances prevented that so we opted for lunch.
The first thing we noticed was when we sat down. In pulling out the chair for my wife, the seat was either cut or stained, I couldn't see which. When she sat down the chair was unsteady and squeaked. I swapped it for another chair and we sat although we were puzzled at the need for maintenance.
We ordered our traditional calamari and warm radicchio salad.
The calamari looked perfect ...... but it wasn't. It was chewy/rubbery and some pieces actually tasted fishy. Frankly, we were shocked. What is always the best calamari of them all, was some of the worst we'd ever had.
The server removed our plates, apologizing for the quality and assuring us it would be removed from the bill. We declined another choice as we had time constraints.
Salads arrived. Pancetta perfectly cooked. Parmesan lattice - inedible - tough and rubbery. We make these ourselves so we know it was stale.
My radicchio was fine. My wife's bowl contained mostly inedible bottom stems. She ate the pieces she could and left the rest. We couldn't bring ourselves to send the salad back as well so we just asked for the bill.
As we were getting up, the waiter asked the couple at the table next to us about their soup. They told him it was cold. Inexcusable. At that point there were only four people in the restaurant.
We don't now what we will do in future: calamari, salad and the soup at the next table. Incredible.
We dined at da Maurizio for our recent Wedding Anniversary. We have dined there many times before, and have never been disappointed in the quality of food and service. Once again, we thoroughly enjoyed the evening. Although there were two large parties in the restaurant that evening, service was impeccable, and all courses were delicious. da Maurizio - we love dining with you, and will continue to support you for special occasions!
Tucked way in a mall of some sort but still a good vibe. Once inside, more romantic than I expected, given its location. Nice and friendly staff. Holly was lovely. Finally, a place in Nova Scotia that serves Prosecco. Nice selection of breads. Our salads were great. We read on Open Table, they offered lasagna and tapas size pastas but this night, no to both. I really like trying different dishes so 3 tapas selections is ideal for me but instead had the homemade gnocchi. It was good... but not to the level of must have again. My friend had the lobster ravioli which I did try. Again, good but I have had better. Would I go back... YES. It's the only way I can try the other pastas.
Was a little hesitant given the reviews and considering the night before we dined at Cut so we assumed that meal would be hard to top. Glad we gave da Maurizio a chance! The atmosphere was very romantic and the food was excellent! Our server Kelly went above and beyond to make this meal exceptional! When asked for a recommendation he didn't hesitate both with the main courses and dessert and was spot on with his recommendations. He was very helpful explaining the menu and provided extremely attentive service despite seemingly tending many tables. The calamari and mussel appetizers were delicious as were the mains (haddock and tenderloin), as well the deserts we're exceptional as was the coffee that finished off the great experience!
I normally love this restaurant but was disappointed with my most recent visit. Service was brusque, and there was a long wait between courses.
I always come here on my visits to Halifax, as my go to restaurant for a consistently good meal, and gracious service, in a lovely environment- but I will rethink that based on my most recent experience.
This is the first time we have tried this restaurant since changing ownership. It was a special occasion with our two daughters. The filet mignon my daughters ordered was fine, although the plates medium rare and medium were given to the wrong daughter so we changed it. Service was slow, we had drank all our wine waiting for our main course. My appetizer and main were terrible. My main course lobster ravioli I could not eat, sauce, pasta all terrible. My husband's veal was not good. The desert my daughter ordered was not to standard for the restaurant. I will say our service took off my entire and the desert and took off some of the cost of the wine. She was nice. I just could not eat here again, the thought of my food makes me ill.
Absolutely delicious! I especially appreciated their attention to my request of gluten free options. I was brought crackers while my husband enjoyed the bread (usually at other restaurants, I am left watching him eat the bread with no options for me). The beef tenderloin was wonderful and the chocolate mousse and crème brûlée even better!
