Cygnus 27 Ratings and Reviews
The menu at Cygnus 27 continues to evolve. What fun to try new things. And "Carmen" (from the 1913 Room), our server, is the best! She explains all the dishes and what flavors to expect. Finally, hats off to Executive Chef Chris (formerly chef de cuisine at the 1913 Room) for ramping up the menu. Great food, great service...Go!
My husband and I enjoyed a belated anniversary celebration. Our sever Carmen was outstanding with perfectly timed charming, friendly, welcoming service, and excellent drink recommendations (martini and Camus wine) to pair with our food. The calimari appetizer was fantastic, the filet was exquisitely done, and the view was spectacular.
The staff was friendly and courteous. They took very good care of us. Our waitress took the time to explain several of the dishes on the menu. We took her suggestion on several items - we were not disappointed!
The view is awesome. It was a great experience!
Cygnus is a great place for Sunday Brunch or a cocktail before or after dinner or an event. The views from the 27th floor can't be beat whether it is the afternoon or night. The bar staff is always attentive and creates the best cocktails. The service also can't be beat. I recommend Cygnus to anyone visiting downtown GR.
We were here for a birthday celebration Sunday brunch. The food was fantastic, and the service was extremely friendly if not attentive. Several times our coffee and water glasses were empty and we had to signal someone for refills. Also, the meat-to-table service was rather poor. They stopped by just once--and we had to wait a long time for that visit.
We all left with full and happy tummies though.
Absolutely love the Sunday brunch at Cygnus! The food is creative and wonderful (particularly the sushi and desserts), and the mimosas (as part of the brunch price) are a terrific starter. It is both relaxing and cheerful especially on a bright Sunday morning/afternoon in Grand Rapids. This is our second time at Cygnus on a Sunday and our group enjoyed every bite from the shrimp salad to the scallops to the crepe station. Fabulous! And a shout out to our waiter Alex who was attentive during the entire meal. Can't wait for the Easter brunch!
Great views of the city and good table spacing create a wonderful ambiance. Our server was not trained in opening and serving wine which was a bit off-putting but the food service was well paced and professional. The duck, beet salad, and mushroom soup were very good but the empanadas were bland fried dough. Wine list was OK and not too over priced. All in all a very good restaurant.
Well worth planning a little ahead for Fantastic Vegan Fare! OMG the Mushroom soup was fabulous, the cucumber salad with Almond 'gary' 'vegan cheese' was wonderful with the coral crisps like a sort of crouton. Wonderful service, wonderful food! Definitely going back! So give a little notice with food selections and they will come up with somethin wonderful just for you! Register with happycow.net so all the vegans across the world can find you when they come to town!!
This restaurant is at the top of the Amway Grand Hotel in Grand Rapids. So I wanted to have dinner there for my 50th birthday and show my daughter the beautiful view of Grand Rapids high atop the hotel. Well that didn't work out for us. Apparently not all of the tables let you see the view. I didn't know that I had to request a window table so we definitely were not by the window and could not be moved because they were at capacity.
Very disappointed and will not return. The food was ok not great . The atmosphere was really what we went for and didn't get it.
The Amway Grand Plaza hotel has some of the finest restaurants you'll find in Grand Rapids. Valentine's Day is a special occasion, and typically, you want a special restaurant to fill that position. I can say, truthfully, that my choice to dine at Cygnus 27, and not Ruth's Chris steakhouse, was definitely the right choice. The food at Cygnus 27 is unmatched and truly a delight. Their menu is ever-changing, and you'll never know what they'll be serving, which is a nice change from steak and potatoes. The highlight of our night, wholeheartedly, was our server. She filled the night with laughter and made it special. To go, and not have Carmen as your server, would be a tragedy. I cannot recommend her enough. Thank you, Carmen. The servers at Ruth's Chris could certainly learn a thing or two from you.
This was my first trip to Cygnus 27 and I'm excited to go back soon! We went on Valentine's Day and they had a specialty menu. So, while I can't speak to their every day menu, I imagine it is on par with what we had. The service was impeccable, the food was delicious, and we felt very welcome to take our time and enjoy our meal. It is a high-cost meal, but for special occasions I would think it to be worth every penny.
A reservation is definitely recommended as it is an "exclusive sized" restaurant that seems to be very popular. The view from the dining area is a gorgeous panorama of Grand Rapids that adds to the high-end feel of the space. The "27" refers to it being on the 27th floor of the Amway. This gives you views you can't get in any other restaurant in town. Stunning!
While it is described as a "Latin" restaurant, I didn't find that to be overwhelmingly true. This is not a place to go to experience authentic tapas (such as San Chez) but more of a high-end steakhouse/seafood restaurant that has some Latin flair. I had clams in a delicious spicy tomato sauce, seared scallops with pea risotto, and a delicious chocolate torte. My date had a fresh and yummy salad, a perfectly cooked filet with an artichoke salad, and an amazing vanilla bean creme brulee. Needless to say, it was the perfect meal for the biggest date night of the year.
Excellent display of food, fantastic variety and the service was great! We were seated at the same table that we were a month prior (for brunch) and the hostess knew that I recommended that table last time so that's why she put us there again- so awesome that she remembered! Highly recommended to friends and family- The brunch is amazing and we look forward to going back soon!
The menu is creative, with a South American influence. There are assorted small plates so that you can eat Spanish style, as well as full entrees. No beer on tap, but interesting wine list. Attentive service and friendly staff who know their menu. The prices are not absurdly high (if you want that, try Ruth's Chris downstairs or the Chop House across the street), and the quality of the food is consistently high. Great choice before a concert or show downtown, and a distinctive local one rather than a chain restaurant. Stylish decor, but casual atmosphere. One of the best in the area, especially for people who take food seriously. Hope nobody steals their chef any time soon.
This is my second time dining at Cygnus. I certainly was not disappointed. The service was wonderful!
I was greeted immediately and taken to my table with a view. The night continued the same way! The food was amazing and the service impeccable !
The craft cocktails and the wine list are amazing. I will certainly be back.
The ambiance is wonderful and the waiter was great...the food, however, was not stellar. I had the filet and my date had the pork chop. His was tastier than mine...the steak was overcooked. The sides were a mixed vegetable type slaw and mine came with three small basically boiled potatotes...again...beautiful restaurant...less than stellar food. Go to Ruth Chris...at least you can count on a good steak.
