CUCINA urbana Ratings and Reviews

I'm really shocked this place received so many great reviews. $23 for a half chicken meal? $23 for spaghettini with 5 shrimp? Nope and never again. The chicken was dry and the veggies that came with were overcooked. The spaghetti was also over cooked-not al dente-and the sauce was too fishy. Who messes up spaghetti?! The truffle fries would have been better if they weren't cold. Best part about dinner was the wine and brussel sprouts. Ambience was nice as was the decor. Clearly the owners main focus was the ambience and not the food. Dispiace ma non saremo mai andare nuovamente qui.

We have eaten here for lunch and dinner, and highly recommend it for both. Walking distance to Balboa Park and the Old Globe Theatres. Great food and reasonable prices. It can get noisy, so request a table in the Atrium if you'd like a quiet table.

For wine lovers the concept of the in house wine store with boutique wines at reasonable prices is wonderful. Kevin is outstanding with his enthusiastic service. This was our best dining experience in SanDiego for the week we were here.

This was the first time my friends had been to Cucina Urbana and they loved it! It's one of my favorite restaurants to introduce people to because the food and service are consistently excellent. I highly recommend dining here, but be sure get a reservation.

The service was wonderful. Brooklyn was our waiter. He was attentive and made great recommendations. We were a party of two and had 2 cocktails, 2 pasta dishes, a side dish and a dessert to share. The lemon cheesecake/custard was insanely delicious as was everything else. The place is hip and trendy but a bit too loud for two fifty- somethings. With that said, it was Saturday night in a popular area of town on"homecoming " night for a few local high schools. I loved it and will be back for sure! Next time I will take my adult kids and make sure they know their mom knows a hip- happening spot when she sees one!!

Cucina Urbana has become my new favorite restaurant! This place hit on every note - friendly greeting by the hostess, phenomenal food, creative cocktails, outstanding service, inviting atmosphere and divine desserts. The grilled octopus appetizer was so tender and flavorful. The bucatini pasta was so flavorful. The chocolate peanut butter bar was like a Butterfinger on steriods. Our server, Rebecca, was excellent - personable, knowledgeable and not afraid to give an opinion when asked, which I really appreciate. We loved everyone of her recommendations. We can't wait to come back! My husband and I came with our adult sons. All of us agreed that this was the best dining experience we'd had in a very long time.

The food was good, but a bit on the "gourmet side". I found the dishes tasty, but I also tired of them after a few bites. For example, the trout spread. Loved the toasted bread but the trout spread was ok. The mushroom pizza too rich. I think the ambiance and smells of the kitchen are great. Just a bit disappointed with the food.

Dined during San Diego Restaurant Week. We are regulars at Cucina Urbana and we love the menu, food, service and ambiance. We ordered the 3 course prix fixe dinner. The grilled Pork Chop was fantastic...tender and deliciously marinated. Also ordered the Mediterranean Seabass which, unfortunately had an "off" flavor. The plate was removed and was graciously replaced with the Half Chicken, which is always consistent. The way the restaurant handled the situation was so "spot on"! We love Cucina Urbana!

Lunch for our company's department staff was very good, food, ambience, service, etc. The only negative was it took a significant amount of time for food to be served, including drinks, appetizers, and entrees. Restaurant wasn't overly busy for a Thursday afternoon, so not sure what the delay was all about. Other than that, experience was very good.

We attended for Restaurant Week and each loved our entrees of choice. Both the lasagna and pork pullenta were spectacular and very filling. However, my arugula salad was too bitter and needed more dressing. My fiancee's corn soup also seemed unimaginative - it tasted like corn puree, which I highly disliked. But the entrees truly made the lunch menu a magnificent experience. Our server was accomodating, though a little awkward at times - she forbid us to share our meals, which was strange to us. Either way, I'd still go back, just stear clear of the appetizers.

Summer corn soup (YUM!) and Grilled 3-Cheese Panini w/ Arugula side Salad for SDRW.
Incredible wait-staff (Caroline)and nice ambience; haven't been for at least 3+ years (since the transition from Laurel to CU) and it was a nice re-visit. Will definitely return.

Try the stuffed fried squash blossoms filled with
herb ricotta and lemon aioli. It was excellent. We paired it with a glass of Prosecco. The grilled octopus with ceci beans (a kind of chickpea) was wonderful. The Mediterranean sea bass was well executed too! Loved the flavors, the service, the decor!

This is the place for food. We did the stuffed squash blossoms followed by the short ribs. The squash blossoms were stuffed with a ricotta cheese mix that was very tasty and complimented our champagne. The short ribs are outstanding and we were amazed at how good they tasted. This is an old time favorite at Cucina Urbana and it is easy to tell why. This is by far the best short ribs in San Diego.

Loved the food, ambience and ordering wines from the store next door paying retail prices plus only a reasonable corking fee added to the bill. Everything was unique and delicious tasting. Slightly noisy with 4 of us at a middle table -- but other than that, a wonderful place to visit for amy occasion.

Cucina Urbana is our absolute favorite restaurant in San Diego. The food is awesome. The service is unmatched. We prefer sitting at the community table at the bar. Great interaction with the bar tenders the entire evening. This restaurant can't be missed if you enjoy great and unique food and service like no other.

Absolutely loved this place! I was in town for 2 days, and Cucina Urbana was recommended by 2 different people -- so I had to try it! The atmosphere was fun and lively without being overwhelming, the décor and lighting level were extremely comfortable, the service was attentive and charming, the food was DELICIOUS! Overall a great experience.

First time the food was great. This last time was mediocre. The pricing does not allign with mediocre quality food.
While i didnt order the same main course, i did order the grilled octopus for the table to nibble on again. This proved to be an accurate gauge as it was just as mediocre as the rest of the meal. No char on it. Might as well just pan fry it and charge $5 for that. The rest of the meal was similarly shortcoming while overall not a complete miss.
Out waitress was cool and knew the menu well. The atmosphere was a little loud but not unpleasantly so. Overall a good time despite questioning ROI.
