Columbia Restaurant - St. Augustine Ratings and Reviews
Avoid like the plague!!! Our waiter was great; he was professional and very knowledgeable. I had the Paella al Valenciana, a seafood dish, and my wife had the mahi-mahi special. The food takes about 25-30 min to serve, but they explain that to you as you order. He explained how they painstakingly work to make ever dish perfect. So when we finally got our meals, my wife's mahi-mahi was cold. (She never lets me say anything at the table) As I ate my meal, it was sandy or gritty. About a quarter of the way through the meal, I then went to open a clam. The clam was filled with black muck that smelled like a sewer. There is no way they cleaned the clams before cooking them. They took my meal off the bill.
I went to Columbia on this ocassion to celebrate my birthday as I have done many other times. I also go here often on non special occasions and it is by far one of my favorite restaurants. Food and service are usually very good. However, our entrees this time were average to below average which is disappointing considering that these two entrees were approximately $60 combined. The flavors were just not quite the same as other times but overall Columbia is generally very good all around.
We were on vacation and had heard lots of good things about this place, so we made dinner reservations.
We both ordered The Original Cuban and a cup of soup. It was delicious and a very large serving. Of course we started with fresh warm Cuban bread and butter, so we both wound up stuffed and brought home half of a sandwich.
It never disappoints! Delicious!! The 1905 salad is worth the trip alone and our server was fantastic! We always enjoy your food however the same main hostess is there each time and let's just say.... she is LESS than friendly and doesn't appear to enjoy her job🤔
Columbia is our favorite restaurant in St. Augustine. The ambiance is perfect. The waiters/waitresses are cordial and polite as well as quick to meet our requests and provide exemplary service. We usually don't have a cocktail before dinner. But here we do just to try the different and usual drinks they serve. Everything we have tried has been a nice surprise. The presentation of each ordered dinner is a nice surprise as well. Here is where we bring our guests and out of town family and friends for dinner. Don't miss it!!
I was concerned the restaurant would be a touristy type place and it was. The food was just so so. The menu was disjointed-just too much going on. Our server was a very nice young lady and did a good job. It was a bit loud with the tiled floor. Overall, I would just say it was a restaurant for tourists. I had hoped for something more local feeling.
We love Colombia House it always have great options, good Cuban inspired cuisine, tapas, good wine selection and the bread is awesome! I like the Snnaper Adelita, and many of the Cuban basic staples. Must try their Sangria is fantastic and there’s free parking.
My second visit came with some disappointing aspects. The 3rd floor is not pretty, sit on main or 2nd floor. Our service was not up to first visit. Server forgot salad, offered check before checking on dessert order, small things but we felt neglected. Great food though.
The Columbia house is beautiful with old world Spanish décor service is outstanding the variety on the menu is plentiful to choose from there drinks are made perfectly Columbia House in Saint Augustine sit in nice corner full of history a lot to look at the San Marco Castillo only a 10 min walk from the restaurant lots of shopping I advice buy a Trolley or Red train pass to get around well enjoy it was a great experience call for reservation Columbia house is a well none restaurant.
We grew eating at up with the Columbia in Tampa, Sarasota and St. Petersburg and have eaten at the St. Augustine location many times since we moved here. This is usually one of our favorite restaurants however the food and service were not up to their usual standards.
Looked forward to this but quite disappointed with the check in at the front, 6 girls chatting it up and annoyed that we interrupted their fun....then to the waitress- no introduction just - “is this one check?” Then sitting there waiting for us to either order or say something more. Food took over an hour and the place wasn’t packed on a rainy night....all the tables near us were complaining and upset. Invest in your staff.....they ruined this experience for many of us.
Beautiful place and food was edible but nothing wonderful. Everything plain. No flavors. Just boring overcooked rice. Meat without seasoning and veggies, again overcooked. On all 6 dishes we ordered.....wrong drink and took it anyways to not wait another 30 min, but no sorry or option to make right. Disliked the entire experience.
