About Coldwater Cafe & Catering
This restaurant housed in a former bank building in the heart of downtown Tipp City offers quality dining in a small-town setting. The decor is warm and welcoming and is a delight for the senses. The fireplace creates a cozy atmosphere while the full bar allows patrons a relaxing stop while awaiting a fabulous meal. The inviting atmosphere encourages relaxed conversation. You may be surprised to find that a restaurant in such a small town has some rather sophisticated choices on the menu alongside your more normal fare, with entrees such as ostrich being offered. If you are looking for a decadent dessert, look no further than the butter-drenched English Tea Cake! An easy drive from all points in the Dayton area, words cannot do it justice. A visit is a must and will be the first of many.

Coldwater Cafe & Catering Ratings and Reviews
My husband and I have been here several times but the menu rarely changes. Would be nice to have the option of baked potato with the steak, for example. It's gotten boring. We were celebrating my birthday, though we didn't make it known, as I don't like a fuss. But this night was ruined because it took forever to get our food. At one point the waitress came by and said she just checked and our entrees would be out soon. She actually sounded like she was blaming us for the delay because my husband ordered the lime cilantro chicken and since it's "half a chicken the chef wants to make sure it's done". And also I ordered my filet with very little pink showing so that takes longer - come on! We weren't born yesterday. My steak might take 3-4 minutes longer! And his chicken wasn't completely done anyway. It was dark pink inside sf the bone. He didn't send it back as we'd already been there 2 hours. They should have started cooking earlier if they thought the chicke would take so long. They weren't that crowded. They wee also out of their special, Chilean sea bass that my husband ordered first. Who runs out of their special st 7:30 on a Saturday evening? Just a big disappointment overall. We won't be back anytime soon. My husband wanted to treat me for my birthday (and cheer me up after surgery 4 days earlier) and he felt like he should have taken me somewhere else. The best thing was the jazz duo.
Everything was fantastic--from the food to the service. Our main dishes, steak and haddock was delicious and the last bite was every bit as good as the first bite. The salads we ordered was crisp and also quite tasty. My husband and I shared a cup of soup and would definitely order the soup again. We were too stuffed to eat dessert at the restaurant, so we took a piece of the English Tea cake home and had it the next day. Again, it was great. Lastly, our waitress gave good recommendations and service. We will definitely go back for a special occasion. We may have to make up some special occasion to go back more often.
The food and service was great as always! I really wish you could sit on the roof for dinner though!! I love sitting outside in the summer months, and if I had known we wouldn't be able to sit outdoors, I likely would've chosen somewhere else to eat dinner.
We have eaten here many times but tonight was probably the worst service I have ever had at a restaurant. I don't know if the waitress forgot to put in our order or what but other diners around us who arrived at the same time were finished with their entrees and we had not even gotten our appetizers. We had tried to get the waitress to come over but she totally ignored us. We finally had to find the manager to get service. It was over an hour until we finally got an appetizer and salads. The manager had told us he would come back and check to see how things were going but we never saw him again. However, once we did get our entrees everything tasted good.
I guess the manager and waitress were having a bad day. Luckily, the kitchen staff/ chef were not.
Cold Water Cafe is located in the old bank building on Main St. in Tipp. Very cool redesign of the facility. Warm, cozy, and very historical-chic... Very fitting restaurant for Historical Tipp City. Food was excellent! She Crab soup was world class. Nice little jazz combo played just the right decibel rating. Kudos!
My wife and I have been eating at the Coldwater café for the last 10 years. We have always had good food until our last visit. My wife ordered her steak medium well and it was served to her rare. The waitress took it back and brought it back burnt. The only thing we received was "I'm sorry" Our meal was $75 and that did not include any alcohol. Just 2 steak dinners, three pieces of shrimp and one ice tea. Slow service and bad food. We will probably never return. I don't know what happened to the quality of food at the Coldwater but something has definitely changed. Too bad.
Word of advise - when a customer has something wrong with there food the manager should be notified and he or she takes it from there
Mother's Day Brunch was amazing! The extra work that goes into the preparation for this fabulous buffet did not go unnoticed. My entire family thoroughly enjoyed it. The desserts were beautiful and delicious. Thanks for opening on a Sunday for us to celebrate this special day.
As usual, everything was superb at Coldwater Cafe. I got there earlier than the rest of my party so went to the bar for a drink. Those people were also friendly, and prompt. I was seated exactly where I had requested a seat be reserved. Our waitress (Jill) was the same one we had a couple weeks ago, and she was again outstanding.
Coldwater Cafe is our 'go to' restaurant for special occasions and date night. Love the ambiance, the food! In all the years we've gone there, we have always had great service... the staff is exceptional! My only complaint is... the calamari is not on the menu regularly(the best we've ever had!)
It was the most wonderful evening. The food was phenomenal, atmosphere and service were great. They seated us immediately and we enjoyed a very special evening for our wedding anniversary. Thank you for the wonderful evening. Will be back soon! Thanks to our waitress for the great service. Kathy
We've been here several times and have never had a bad meal of bad time here. The menu is not huge but whatever you get, you can be sure it will be good and cooked the way you asked. Last night we found out there's a new Spring menu. I tried a new appetizer - Parmesan Creme Brûlée and it comes with toasted focaccia bread slices and some kind of sweet grapes.. Wow! That alone would have been worth going for. My entree, Scottish Salmon, was also very good. The service is always great, they are very accommodating, as I like to sit in a particular area near the front, where it's easier to hear the beautiful live jazz duo. Great wine.
I had a very nice evening here. Most of the good local restaurants in Dayton area are either downtown or in busy shopping areas. Coldwater Cafe, in part because it's just a little bit off the beaten path, is a great place to slow down for some great food and live music. Great for a date night. I could also see it working well for family dinners, but wouldn't recommend taking young kids. It's a fancy and somewhat formal dining experience, but not in a stuffy or pretentious way.
Coldwater Cafe has been my favorite restaurant for probably 20 years. Everything about it is "favorites" for me. I almost always have dessert....I like the English Teacake so much, don't think I've even tried any other desserts. I first went to Coldwater Cafe when they were down on the corner and also loved it's total atmosphere. I was disappointed when they moved to where they now are, but the disappointment did not last long! The waitresses have always been superb, food delicious etc. Only one time I was unhappy - I took a person who had never been there, and we got stuck in the back room. That room has no "atmosphere"; it's like eating in a cafeteria. I'll eat at the "bar" before eating in that back room again.
