Walking in, you'll find it to be a homey and artsy atmosphere. For my entree I got the Breakfast in Bed French Toast breakfast platter. It's a French toast with strawberries, blueberries, bananas, and pecans. The only sauce they have to compliment the French toast is syrup. The syrup ruins the flavor and does not complement the fruits in it. If you are offering a French toast with a bunch of fruit, it would make much more sense to offer a vanilla cream cheese or something sweeter. Syrup goes much better on a plain French toast. Aside from that, the food was mediocre. All this food I could have made at home with the exact same results. The service was great. Would I come back? Not voluntarily.

Four of us gathered for a "catch up with friends" lunch. Two had the weekday special pork tenderloin and two had the quiche. All plates were clean at the end of the meal. The vegetarian quiche was fluffy and tasty. The service was helpful. Three key lime pies and one shared Rosemary lemon cake later, we waddled out feeling satisfied and wanting more. We often explore new restaurants around town, but this tried and true gem keeps us coming back!

I've been to Chez Zee many times as it's across the street from where I work. The food has always been delicious. The atmosphere is wonderful, not your normal noisy restraunt where you can't hear the person you are dining with. This isn't a place I'd go every day but on special occassions it's perfect.

Did a great job making birthday special for our table - knowledgeable about menu and wine pairings. Food was fantastic! Been a fan of this restaurant for a decade and I'm always delighted to bring people to this distinctly Austin spot.

Honestly, we came for the cake and that did not disappoint. Lunch, however was a gamut of unexpected pairings of ingredients for very common foods, and often harsh (vinegar overload) or over-emphasis on ways to sneak extra sugar into the meal. (bread, corn, etc.)
I would definitely return, but skip the dining menu and go straight for desert.
My boyfriend was frustrated not to see any beer on tap.

We went for brunch, it was my first time to eat here. The service was not very good....it took forever to get drinks, refills, etc. The ambiance is great.....it's a cool restaurant and there was a pianist playing on the red piano which was a nice touch. Overall the place was fun, but the food was not that good and the service could've been a lot better. There are too many great places in Austin to eat brunch at so I would probably never go here again.

Warm, friendly restaurant with a unique architectural and interior design to feel like a cute, rural getaway. There's nothing like eating outside under the thicket roof, or eating inside in the new half-rotunda restaurant extension. The creme brûlée French toast are always a crowd pleaser. We come here for brunch every few months to celebrate being alive. Highly recommend their brunch.

We had an excellent meal; 5 friends all from out of town - the restaurant had been recommended to us, and we found it to be worth the time, drive and money. Service was great, and the food was remarkably good. Two of us had burgers that looked totally yummy. I had the steak salad, and it was perfect. The steak was cooked exactly to my preference, the salad was fresh with just the right amount and flavor of dressing. Everyone at the table was perfectly satisfied, and we left smiling as tiny green lights sparkled on us.

Huge and varied menu makes deciding what to eat a challenge, and all of the many things we've eaten here have been good. We got to sit outside on a very pleasant evening, and it was quiet and delightful. Our server was a tad slow, perhaps because we were her only outside table, but other than that, everything was splendid.

Loved this funky restaurant. We had a very yummy brunch. The creme brûlée French toast appetizer was the perfect size for 3 to share. The homemade croisssnts were delicious. My poached eggs were a little more done than I like, but the dish was still delicious.

Probably best left to groups who need a large selection of menu items. They do many things, unfortunately most of them they do not do well. The entree salads are uninspired and majority lettuces. Side dishes tend to lack seasoning.
The last server we had apologized in advance for her inattentiveness, as she was working a double and tired. That said, she seemed to hold it together well.
Am not a dessert person, so will leave that to others. However they look quite nice.

Service was fantastic and the food was amazing. Really good chicken fried steak and mashed potatoes. The decor was interesting, but very austin like. Lots of abstract art. There was a man at the piano playing with was lovely and lots of families and older people in the place.

Went here for my with my fiance. Food was amazing, i was very pleased to find out and strawberry butter are served before your brunch! The food itself was also amazing, and my only complaint was my server seemed a little with us for the rest of our visit after i pointed out shed brought me the wrong dish.

They made a special effort to decorate our table for our daughter's birthday and the staff immediately greeted her with a Happy Birthday upon arrival. Love the menu, love the vibe, love the décor. It's a special part of Austin

Love Chez Zee
We always enjoy Chez Zee, their food is always excellent and love the old Austin vibe. Our waiter was a bit slow but will otherwise the meal was excellent. We were celebrating a birthday but they only offer 1 desert for a free birthday treat, would like to see them expand this to other choices. I would definitely recommend Chez Zee.

Same name, but seemed like a completely different restaurant. I made the reservation on Open Table and put in the comments that this was a special Daddy/Daughter date night. I requested a table by the window. When we got there, the hostess barely looked up from her computer, sat us in the middle of the restaurant (when there were multiple window tables available) and walked away. The overall service followed the same flow and the food from entree to dessert was far from past experiences. My family and I have been to Chez Zee many times over the past years and had wonderful times, but things have changed. The place looks the same, but the heart and soul seem to be missing. I doubt we will return. Sad to see a great restaurant lose its edge.

Had to come here because heard it was a must brunch go to, and let me tell you it was not a disappointment. The whole atmosphere is very nice though a little on the loud side. The piano does make it much more soothing. Plus the complementary croissants we so warm and soft, it was great to start the meal off.
Now I gotta say we ordered the chicken and waffle, everyone has hyped me about this, and I was baffled by how good it was. The chicken was huge and so tender. The waffle was delicate and freshly cooked. Then when you add the pecan syrup, real pecan chunks can you believe that, the meal felt complete.
We also got the crab cake Benedict and it was pretty darn good too. The crab cake was fresh and tasted quite good with the cheesy sauce. The egg literally burst in my mouth. Though it did seem a bit watery. If you can fit it all in one bite in your mouth try because it is one of the most satisfying feels.
I gotta say we will be coming back when given the chance because this is a great was to get some good food on Sunday.

Sad that we were seated in the back in an empty restaurant and when we asked to be seated away from the air the hostess was rude. Don't think I'll be going back even though there is no other place for creme brûlée French toast. Sad

Not a drinker, so can't speak to the wine/liquor offerings, but Chez Zee is our family's go-to for special events or just "a nice dinner out." It's not super elevated or trendy cuisine, but it's always tasty and dependable - and that's worth a lot! The service is friendly, courteous, and helpful, but not intrusive. The atmosphere is festive, and there's often a pianist playing in the corner, which is nice. They make an effort to accommodate groups - even a bunch of high schoolers on prom night! We know we'll always have a great evening, with generous portions of good food (and probably leftovers!) when we go to our neighborhood restaurant, Chez Zee.

I really enjoyed coming here for my birthday dinner. Our waitress was super patient and let me and my friends take time to talk to each other without rushing us out of our table. Great for a more mature crowd- not so much for children, for the sake of the adults.
