The service was excellent and the food was the best French cuisine I have had (only other French restaurant I have been to is Refectory in Columbus, Ohio) but most importantly for French cuisine the portions were relatively large and left being very full which meant a lot to me considering the price of the meals.

Good food, great service; not handicap friendly(old building, lots of steps--- May not have seen another entrance for handicap). The portions were rather large, at least for us; but overall a wonderful restaurant .

We have a tradition of dining at Chez Francois every year on our anniversary. And every year we agree it's the best meal we've had since last year! The food is delicious. The presentation is beautiful. The main dining room is cozy and inviting. Even though it's a high-dollar restaurant, the staff is friendly and helpful; no pretentiousness here. The restaurant is pricey, but well worth it, especially for a special occasion dinner. I would highly recommend Chez to anyone looking for a place to impress!

My husband and I dined recently during the fall gourmet clam bake. From the beginning tasting of puree of pumpkin through the first course medley of little neck clams and mussels, it was evident this was not going to be an ordinary clambake dinner. Each course complimented the last as did the suggested wine and beer pairings and was thoughtfully served at our own pace by our very pleasant wait staff. They were endlessly cheerful, helpful, and patient. We have dined here many times and are never disappointed.

We had an evening dinner. Nice location on river. Ambiance was a little dark and slightly funereal. The menu is very ambitious and, on the whole, food and presentation were above average. The service was very good. However, the price wasn't quite justifiable at the level of gourmet dining we experienced. It's a good restaurant, but didn't quite meet our expectations food-wise -very good but not great. We'll probably try again. It's hard to judge fairly on just one experience.

The table offered to us was not appealing at all.I asked that we be seated out on their tiny deck, which exceeded our expectation. Having dinner where they originally had us would have been like eating in a nursing home(very warm temp and noisy). Our two servers were excellent,Food was OK,not blown away by the flavor at all. However we will come back.

The staff was outstanding. Even tho one of the gentlemen in our group did not have a jacket on they accommodated us. Love this place. I wasn't very fond of the fish dish that I had, Hog Fish I think it was, but that has nothing to do with the restaurant. I just chose the wrong dish for me.

My wife & I dined here recently for our anniversary, and were not disappointed. Situated along the Vermilion river, the atmosphere and view are outstanding. Food is not cutting edge, but prepared beautifully with fresh ingredients.(old school French) The wine list is huge and diverse. The cost is not for the faint of heart, but I think most people know what they are getting into when they dine here. Even on a packed Saturday night we never were rushed and lingered at our riverside table for 2.5 hours. Cudos to Roger and Tyler!

This is a higher priced restaurant for special occasions. The ambiance was pretty good, the service was excellent and the food was superb. The background music, however, was annoying.....it was Spanish/Mexican.....in a French restaurant?? It should have been nice French music throughout the track......not just once in awhile. we DO plan to return, and hope that the music is improved.

Went here for the first time for our anniversary. We made the experience our anniversary "gifts". My husband and I each had the tasting dinner to be able to try a variety of items with wine pairings. The food and wines were delicious, but it is pricey. My husband's corn soup and scallop was probably one of our favorites. Also, I was a bit concerned from the prices and dress code it would be a bit stuffy, but the staff made us feel very comfortable. The ambiance is well balanced...cozy, yet spacious enough we didn't feel like we were on top of another table. It was just us enjoying our anniversary. All in all a great place for a special occasion.

I was a bit disappointed in the gouging pricing. The main dinners are 30-45$ which I was ready to pay up for a nice dinner. The specials that me and my husband got were $65 each with no warning from the server!!!! I felt like a bait and switch when we got the bill. I understand the restaurant is expensive, but gouging the specials is uncalled for.

The menu was extensive, and as I have a shell fish allergy there was plenty to choose from for people like me.
Strip steak was excellent with the mushroom sauce.
Red snapper special with the Ohio peach sauce,my Wife loved it!
Our server, Susan, was very personable, engaged in conversation, helped with our menu choices and even offered to take photos, which we appreciate as we hesitate to impose.

Outstanding atmosphere and service - perfect, really. Attentive to every detail without hovering. Friendly without being familiar. Very old money feel.
For the price, though, the food was not outstanding. Some things were excellent - cocktails, dessert. Some were very good - lobster, lobster ravioli. Some were mediocre - beef Wellington. And that's "mediocre" by any restaurant's standards, not Chez Francois standards. I realize that you don't go here for interesting, cutting-edge cuisine. You go for old-fashioned, refined French food. Fair enough. But then the quality should be uniformly outstanding, and it wasn't.
Still, we would probably go back to see if it was a one-night problem or if that's just how the place is.

Our waiter, Omar, was very friendly and helpful in making our choices. The food was excellent as always. Customers should be aware that "still" water is not the same as "tap". The young man getting water did not ask us if we wanted tap. And when we asked for a lime, we never got it. The overall experience is worth all the stairs you must climb to get in and out.

This restaurant was all and more than what we had imagined. The service was excellent, and the food was prepared perfectly. I had the Chilean Sea Bass and my wife had veal tenderloin medallions with seafood and mushrooms. French press coffee and chocolate torte to end the night. Omar and Irena made us feel like the only ones in the entire restaurant. If you go with an open mind that it will likely be more expensive than you usually pay, but that this is a special night for you, you will not end up with buyer's remorse. Remember, you get what you pay for and here you get the best!

We dined at Chez Francois with friends, and both of us were celebrating an anniversary. We've always wanted to dine at Chez Francois and have heard so many wonderful things about it so we thought this was an excellent opportunity. It certainly did not disappoint! The restaurant was beautiful and perfect for friendly conversations. The food was outstanding. There were so many choices it was hard to decide. The four of us had different entrees all were exceptional. Timothy, our server, was very knowledgeable and pleasant, giving us much opportunity to savor each part of our experience from wine to dessert and after dinner port. It was wonderful going to a restaurant and seeing everyone dressed up. That is very rare today. It was a wonderful dining experience and I'm sure we will dine there again.

My friends and I have made a tradition of coming to Chez Francois once a year on the Friday after Labor Day. Chez Francois never disappoints. The outdoor patio is beautiful. The views are breathtaking and we keep thinking we should buy a place there.

Save time for a walk to Lake Erie after/before dinner.
