About Carmine's - Washington DC
Carmine’s is a family style, value-driven restaurant concept with locations in NYC, NJ, Nassau Bahamas, and Washington DC. Restaurateur Artie Cutler created Carmine’s with one goal in mind: to open a restaurant that would serve every meal in the style of an Italian American wedding feast, featuring extra large portions of home-style antipasto, pastas, seafood and meat entrees served on extra large platters designed for sharing. Carmine’s is the perfect place to casually enjoy friends and family over great food and wine, with excellent service, the way it used to be at grandma’s house.

The server was extremely friendly and gave us a history lesson on the location along with a detailed breakdown of the menu and what "additional" combinations they offered. Huge family style portions and well prepared and served... We are making this a family favorite and will return often! Don't miss out!

We stopped in early before the hockey game. Ordered the special of the day, lamb (Tuesday)
Had a bottle of wine and broccoli rabe. Everything was delicious. I know my Italian food since I grew up in New Jersey. Service excellent. Good value. Leftovers still great! Can't wait to come back!

This was a team lunch for my staff. Everyone enjoyed the ambiance and the food, which was amazing. The calamari was fried to just the right crispness: the eggplant parmigiana was delightful; and the chicken with penne alla vodka was perfect. The salads were fresh and cold, and the variety of breads was more than anyone could ask for. Overall it was an outstanding lunch!

We were in DC for Parent's weekend and took my daughter and 4 of her friends out to eat. Our reservation was for 6pm, but we got caught in city gridlock due to a Presidential motorcade. We arrived a half hour late - no worries though -- they were very understanding and even though our reservation had been automatically cancelled, they were able to seat us within 10 minutes. What followed was a delicious meal!

Made a reservation for the evening. Got there about 10 minutes early. They offered to seat us at the high top tables near the bar immediately, or we could wait to be seated at the regular table. Not really having a preference, we went to the high top tables. And then proceeded to have to wait for service - no waters, no bread, nothing. Finally after about 20 minutes, we flagged down the maitre d' and asked if he could find a server for us when he got the chance. Waited another 10 minutes at which point a bartender had to be asked to come serve us. Honestly, I just felt bad for the bartender more than anything. What was really irritating was that there were servers just standing around in the regular dining area. I get that they were busy because it was a Friday night, but something was definitely going wrong on the organization of the service. The food was very good and came quickly after we ordered it but it took far too long just to get service.

Large quantities of mediocre and expensive food. Unless you're going with at least 4 people (half portions were no longer available) don't bother. If you're going with 2 people make sure you order food that can be reheated as leftovers.....

Once my dining partner and I were seated, everything went smoothly, but I can't quite say the same about the beginning of the evening. I entirely understood that the host stand wouldn't seat me until my friend joined me, but it took another several minutes after she arrived to place us at a table. And during my wait, the bar was overwhelmed, despite a team of four or five behind it. I shouldn't have had to wait over five minutes just to get change, particularly when I was offering cash to make it easier on the staff.
Again, once we were seated, our server was friendly and informative (he helped steer my friend to a tasty mocktail, and provided me with a taste of one wine to ensure that I would like it; I didn't, but the Chianti I ordered instead was delicious). The bread was solid, and the pasta plate was, as usual, tasty and massive. We made it to our show mostly on time. I would easily return, but better bar service would help a great deal.

Went to Carmine's with 3 other women before an Adele Concert and didn't realize it was family style until we looked at menu. Every dish is made for 4 people which can be difficult when not everyone wants the same thing. I wish they had half portions. The Carmine's salad was absolutely delicious as was the artichoke. The ravioli was ok - it was a compromise and felt like it.

My husband and I spent our 23rd Anniversary in DC. After a full day of museum going, we were starving and wanted someplace nice but not too over the top. We made reservations and 15 minutes later we were at Carmines and were seated promptly. When I advised that it was our Anniversary, the hostess was so sweet and made sure we had a great table and even gave us a choice. Our waiter was wonderful, the food was delicious and the whole experience was lovely. We could not come close to being able to finish our family style plate of meatballs and linguine. We took the rest to go and on the way to our hotel shared our meal with those less fortunate than us. Love you Carmines! You remind me of New York and all the good times I had there as well.

Carmines is our "go to place" for birthdays and other special occasions. We are never disappointed with the food or service. It is well worth the hour drive for us. The valet parking is very convenient. The OpenTable reservation service worked out great! We arrived with a group of 7 and were seated immediately.

My first time to DC. Received an award from the Dept. Of Justice and this is one of the restaurants they recommended. I thought it was a great location in the city and the food was outstanding. Our waiter, Corona, was also outstanding. I would highly recommend this restaurant if you visit DC! Great for families and groups with their family style menu. They should definitely open one in my hometown, Houston!..I think Texans would love this place!

Food very good. Waiter unattentive. Never received bread when asked. Also had to help myself to another tables silverware. Brought to waiters attention and never saw him again. Would have at least expected to comp a glass of wine?

Excellent bar tenders - cocktails are perfectly mixed. Food is better than most family-style restaurants. I've never been disappointed. Noise level is not "energetic" - it's just really loud. Be prepared for that. Otherwise, it's fun and the pictures all around the restaurant are great.

Carmine's was lovely! We weren't initially aware that it was family style, so it was a little more food than just two of us could eat. But our pasta was delicious and the service was prompt. You cannot go wrong with good Italian food in my opinion! Perhaps a better scene for large groups and families, however.

The food and the service was great. I ordered the calamari for an appetite and it was absolutely the best in DC and enough for probably 4 grown men. Then we ordered the Chicken Marsala and it was so, so, so good. Again, I would recommend that no one order their own dishes because they are huge. This is a great place for a get together it family style eating.

Last year was my family's first time experiencing Carmine's and we were so blown away with everything that we just had to come back for my birthday. Again, thank you for such a wonderful experience and we will definitely be back!

LOVE Carmines! We have eaten at two of their locations to date and look forward to eating there again on our next trip to one of the cities in which they are located. One small issue: when we ate at the Carmines in Vegas, they gave us the option of having anchovies in the Caesar salad. We ordered it without anchovies in DC and the anchovy taste was overwhelming. When we spoke to the manager, he assured us that their caesar salad always has anchovies. I don't know why it is different in the different locations but would recommend to them that they give the option to leave anchovies out.

Carmines is a good spot when you want some old fashioned Italian food. Since it is served family style, on huge platters, we usually sit in the bar where you can get 1/2 portions. You need a minimum of 4 people to eat the family style portions. I love seeing the look on people's faces who haven't been there before. When their order comes they are usually in shock at the amount of food.

I love Carmines, New York, Atlantic City, NJ, Bahamas and now, Washington, DC. Food is consistently good at all the sites. A bit too noisy, but we love the "family style" dining and there was enough left over for my son and his friend to eat on the plane on their way to San Francisco!

I've eaten at Carmine's in NYC a few times and was always impressed. This visit to the DC location was very disappointing, however. The food was just not very good. Service was excellent, but it did not make up for the poor taste of our meal.

I live in New York and Carmines on 44th street is one of my favorite places in the country. I've literally taken 100s of people there. Currently in DC for work and was delighted to see Carmines here too. Immediately took a small group. Love that it wasn't crazy crowded like the NY 44 street location. But the ceasar and the penne ala vodka did not taste the same and wasn't as special. One of my guests there, from NY, made the same unsolicited observation. Still good but not special and great.
