Camp Verde General Store and Restaurant Ratings and Reviews
Totally enjoyed our experience and ran into a "small world" acquaintance, to boot! Management came to the table to say hi and check on us, which was nice. The aus jus was rather salty that day, but overall the food was great! A little pricey for lunch but it's not an "every day" sort of place either. Nice ambiance and views, and a great little store connected to it with lots to look at and reminisce over.
This is one of our favorite restaurants and never a problem until this visit. We waited over an hour for our food after being seated. I believe they were short of servers and we were told they had a "HUGE" take out order. (Doesn't make sense to neglect seated guests for take out ???
We will be back, but this was not a pleasant visit.
Our group of friends get together every month for lunch. We used to go to a different place each month, but we have all agreed that Camp Verde is too good to miss on our get togethers. The food is delicious and the desserts are fantastic. Reservations are easy to make and we are always seated at our requested time every time. Thank you for making our special occasions very special.
Been coming to Camp Verde for over thirty years. It has been fun watching the changes take place and the restaurant has been a plus. Our children always loved making the trip from our weekend ranch in Utopia to visit the candy shop many years ago. Congratulations on your vision and look forward to many more visits. Debra
My husband and I went for lunch. We drove up from Universal City which is about 1 1/2 hours away. This was a wonderful day trip. The place is a historical monument and the food was wonderful. We did not feel rushed in any way during our meal. The staff was so welcoming. The exterior decor is interesting. We had a great time looking exploring. The store is amazing. We plan on returning often. This is an awesome day trip for the San Antonio area.
From the moment we reserved till the moment we left the restaurant, the service was impeccable, polite and professional. The hostess Sally called the day before to reconfirm our reservation, on the reservation date, we were running a little late, we called and the informed us that our table was ready and they were waiting for us. Our server, Maria de la Luz, was professional, polite and with a beautiful smile from the heart, showing us she was happy to attend to us as her guests. The food was amazing, from the appetizers to the desert, we ordered the 3 cheese queso and the fried pickles, both were perfect, as entrees we ordered the Texas bbq burger, the roast beef melt, turkey sandwich and pulled pork.... all sandwiches were amazing, but the cherry on the cake was the desert, we ordered the apple basket... it's an apple crumble with a huge home made ball of vanilla ice cream, the filling was bubbling hot, not too sweet, and a perfect balance of cinnamon and spices.
We ordered the pork chop special. We got the last two before they sold out. Our waiter Trip told us about the special and it sounded good. The pork chop was cooked with a sear and was topped with onions. The meat was very flavorful and moist. This was probably the best meal we’ve ever had at Camp Verde. The chef did an outstanding job. At the end of the meal we shared a banana split and it was hands down the best one we’ve ever eaten anywhere.
We came from San Antonio and were delighted to see the beautiful scenic drive off Hwy 16 through Bandera, no billboards, etc. The gift shop was fun, so much to look at but many items were rather expensive. The food was excellent. Very important is it wasn't noisy and we could have a delightful conversation. I will recommend the experience to others. Thank you for such a fun day.
The menu for lunch was pretty ordinary. I had a chicken sandwich which was well-made, and large enough to take half home. I enjoy salad, but the dressing was not to my taste, so I left much of it. Hubby relished half of his sausage sandwich, reserving the remainder also. They made a nice evening snack. We declined dessert, though that was hard. They looked elegant.
We live in the Hill Country, and my wife and I love finding places like this. First thing we said after lunch was, "How did we not know about this place?" I am a self professed foodie, and I would say that the quality in preparation of the food was spot on along with the flavors. More of a down home menu than upscale, but I look for quality and they provided an excellent product. It is winter and so did not sit outside, but it is obvious the grounds are well kept and are beautiful. Someone mentioned their soup on another review and I will too. I had the tortilla soup and it was awesome. Will be back.
The lunch was not up to its usual standard. The fried chicken breast tasted like big box store frozen chicken tenders, the chopped steaks were tough. The one desert we wanted, the apple baskets, were sold out before we could order them. The service was excellent, lots of ice tea refills and frequent checks to make sure we had everything we needed.
The store was full of wonderful items from stocking stuffers to Christmas ornaments and kitchen knicknacks. The shop associates were attentive, pleasant, and helpful.
Overall we enjoyed our annual visit to Camp Verde and will go again for a nice afternoon out. Would like to see the food go back to its previous high quality standard, the servings are very generous for the price but would be willing to pay extra for a little better quality serving.
