Was living in San Francisco in the 80's and this restaurant remains one of the best italian restaurants and delicious. We visited for the weekend and really enjoyed our time there.
The old world ambiance is wonderful. As a native San Franciscan, I appreciate that it's still the same great place it has always been. Food's terrific and you can enjoy your meal in an unhurried and and warm environment.
We come to San Francois just to go to Caffe Sport
Wonderful service - Amazing food
This was a wonderful dinner with friends. We were able to make a reservation for the same night and our table was ready after only a few minutes of waiting. The service was kind and very much the way I think of Italian food - not at all rushed. The food was phenomenally delicious, though I can't personally attest to authenticity. We had appetizers and entrees and everyone loved their dishes. Pricey but undertable given the location. All on all a wonderful evening.
We found Caffe Sport on-line. We had a wonderful evening in our own private niche. The food was delicious! The servings were large so we shared dishes, both appetizers and dinners. The service was friendly, responsive and helpful in choosing our food. We will be back!
We first had dinner at Cafe Sport nearly 40 years ago. We loved it then, and have been back a few times since moving to the east coast many years ago. We had a wonderful dinner during this visit, with everything we ordered amazing. The Petrale Sole was especially good, but the appetizers and entrees were all terrific. The atmosphere is eclectic and fun and our waiter was both fun and professional. We highly recommend Cafe Sport.
At the recommendation of a friend from Minneapolis we stopped by Caffe Sport while we were in town. I was told they had Authentic Sicilian food, and had quaint & unique decor. Was not disappointed as it was one of the best Italian restaurants that I have been to in quite some time. My wife had the risotto and I had the Sicilian meatballs. Both superb! Service was outstanding and very attentive! A definite must try and we will definitely go again!
Always excellent food
Came here with my wife and a few friends that we made during our wine tour that day. We had an 8pm reservation but were forced to wait outside in the cold until about 8:40 due to the restaurant being backed up. The owner/manager was trying his best to get us in but the place was just too busy. The restaurant is small and cramped with a narrow walkway. Service was slow to get to us but was fine after that. We had to ask for bread to be brought to the table and when the bread was brought, it was cold, cheap, sliced white bread. Warm rolls would have been nice, especially in an Italian restaurant. The saving grace for this place was the food. It was delicious. I had the seafood risotto but even better was my wife penne dish with shrimp and scallops. That sauce was amazing.
I was pretty disappointed with the food this time. My family and I have been coming here for years. I had heard there were new owners, but I didn't realize it was a new chef. We ordered our usuals and they were well below our standards for what we had gotten used to from their kitchen. The pasta tasted gummy like the pasta in frozen meals when you overcook it. The sauces looked and tasted different even though the menu looked the same. Sadly, I think we'll have to find a new spot in North Beach.
The Sicilian dishes were true to form and were almost as good as my grandmothers. The place has an eclectic interior but the true star is the food. The calamari in marinara sauce was amazing. The service was quick and courteous.
Mediocre (at best) food, in a cramped environment that was a long way from charming (or even kitschy -cute). There is a lot of dusty / cobweb covered "decorative" objects all over the place that are in need of cleaning. Food is served family style, but awkwardly so. For instance the "family style" serving of salmon was just one normal sized piece. On the upside, nothing tasted very good, so no one much cared. I think it's a very tired place with a very dull, garlic heavy menu.
Caffe Sport served up delicious pasta & risotto in a kitschy setting. The service was friendly and warm. My only suggestion to the establishment is to give the place a better dusting. The decorations which hung low over the tables were coated in a thick layer of dust so I was worried how much of that was going to join our food.
Not the same as years past.
Service was friendly! I met an old friend there for dinner, we weren’t rushed, wait staff let us take our time to order.
The mushroom risotto was delicious! Love the fun atmosphere!
Great food, good service and unique decor
We had an exceptional Valentine’s Day here!
I hadn't been there in years, and it is a fun North Beach spot. The food though seemed mass produced and was way too heavy on the sauces. Of course there are multiple pasta dishes and they do specialize in seafood, but I was disappointed in only one chicken dish and no veal...odd for an Italian restaurant. The Caesar salad was excellent as was the garlic bread. our son liked the pasta with meatballs, my chicken parmigiano was very good. My wife's filet of sole with zucchini sticks had so much sauce she did not enjoy. Portions are huge here. The head of the house and the wait staff were excellent.
When in San Francisco I have ventured into north beach at least once during a trip. I seem to always find myself looking forward to Caffe Sport. The food has lost something in the thirty years. It is also possible that I have lost something. Maybe both of us. I'm not going to try to find out.
The food was very mediocre. The staff was nice about accommodating our large group and we had two super picky eaters they accommodated as well. The staff was cheerful and the service was fine, but the food was very mediocre. I told the restaurant twice (both when I booked online and when I called earlier that evening to adjust the number in our party) that we needed to be out the door by a certain time to catch a show at Cobbs but they forgot and we had to chase down the bill. I want to like this place but they need to really step up the food in such a competitive area.
BEST PESTO EVER!!! Scampi, Salmon, Sole were all super fresh and delicious. We also had the fried eggplant over penne and the garlic bread is to die for.
Stag was very welcoming and friendly. Food was fresh and authentic Sicilian.
I now live in Colorado but always try to make time for Cafe Sport. One of my favorite SF places to eat.
We were disappointed in the food...it was not near as good as in the past years that we have been going there. Also, the portions are smaller and the price higher...not a good sign 🤔😕
Food and service was good but seating was not. We were seated on the table for two right by the door and hit with cold draft when some one exited or entered . We had specially selected this place to celebrate our 38th marriage anniversary at the recommendation of a friend and we made a note when booking the table but management didn't care about the occasion and didn't acknowledge . Wish we were seated at the better table or booth
Seating is a challenge otherwise, I would recommend to others
Loads of character. Very accommodating staff. Food OK but not special for the price. I'd recommend, but more for the scene than the food
Excellent food and waiters were really polite!
Fantastic! Great service, great ambiance and outstanding food! Definitively coming back. Jose, the owner was so friendly and helpful as every single employee. Highly recommend
One of my favorite restaurants in San Francisco by far. I’ve been coming here beer since I was little. I 1000% recommend!
Authentic Italian to the extreme - you can tell as so many Italians were customers! Excellent service as well!
Cafe Sport has changed ownership and recipes.
I was a prior customer for over 20 years several special occasions
Shrimp Alfredo was watery vs thick garlic sauce.
Pesto noodles were under cooked and tough.
Portions are smaller.
Good for new customers , old customers will look for original Sicilian style cooking
I was hesitant after reading negative reviews since the change of ownership. This was our first visit so we had nothing to compare it to. It was thanksgiving and my daughter’s 13th birthday. We really enjoyed our experience at Caffe Sport. The place is unique, cozy, and charming, the food was delicious, and the service was friendly. I’d go back again and I recommend it.
We love going to Cafe Sport, we have been there 3 times in the last month. I always get the steamed clams and they have the best garlic bread. Their pastas are some of the best in North Beach !
Cafe Sport is an Icon. Try the Shrimp Alfredo, and their Raviolli's are amazing, as
well as their Caesar Salad. This is a great place to get together with friends, and eat delicious Italian food. Not a place for a diet, but a place to celebrate life, food, friends, and Vino!
Good place for good dinner. Liked the staff and feel of the place. Authentic and rich atmosphere.
The decor is very fun to look at, a feast for the eyes and the food is amazing! We highly recommend!
Solid Italian eats, mainly pastas, with a slant toward seafood. No pizza on the menu so avoid CS if that's your thing.
Delicious food based on Sicilian / Southern Italian recipes. Attentive service.
Great food. Great Service. I would absolutely recommend this restaurant.
