Party of 4, two of us tried your hanger steaks. Disappointed. My wife's was undercooked and flavor of both was ok. Wife usually gets your filet. I usually get your ribeye. Lucky our guests both loved theirs. One had special grouper, other had lobster. Deviled eggs were great as usual.

The wood fired filet was no less than amazing. The steak was cooked well, tender and very flavorful. The wait for the food was not long. We were taken care of by the best waitress, Chandler. She was knowledgeable of the menu and kind. Best service in Charleston during our visit! We will be recommending this restaurant.

The Waygu center-cut was an excellent alternative to the typical filet. The server was excellent. The noise level was too high, but the owner apologized for the group that was involved. A well-run restaurant with valet parking and great food.

The steak was perfectly cooked , the Caesar salad was out standing but the french fries alone were worth the trip. Don't miss the fries. Next visit we will sit at the bar and have the fries and the Caesar for the perfect bar meal.

Best appetizer ever; must have the deviled eggs!!! The NY Strip steak was outstanding. Our server was great and recommended all the best items. Have already recommended this restaurant to friends who live in Summerville. Next visit to Charleston will definitely include dinner and will also try the desserts.

Always love Burwell's. We've been here 3 times now on our visit to Charleston. Took our teenage daughters here for their first time and the waiter we had was great. Will definitely come back next time we're in the area.

We arrived early for our reservation and with no problem we were seated in a lovely booth. Our server Chandler was super friendly and knowledgeable and explained the entire menu to us since it was our first time. She provided impeccable service throughout our entire meal! She helped me pick out a wonderful cocktail and we decided to get some oysters for a first course. They came out quick but they seemed to be dried out and stuck to the shell. I asked if they were pre-shucked before the service and that was confirmed. Such a shame because they tasted delicious but they were dried out. After the oysters we ordered both of their soups one being lobster bisque and the other eggplant Parmesan. Both were incredibly delicious so we thought the next course would be better! We both decided to get the dry aged waygu steaks, him getting the rib eye and mine the ny strip with a shared side of mac and cheese. My first bite of my steak tasted so burnt and the steak overall was very tough. His ribeye was cooked alright but mine was pretty medium to medium well when we both ordered medium rare. Such a disappointment for how much they cost. Ended up trying to dip it in the house steak sauce to try and drown out the burnt grill flavor but the sauce tasted overwhelmingly like molasses. The mac and cheese was okay, but not at all cheesy. I ended up boxing majority of my steak but probably won't eat the leftovers. The experience was saved by the wonderful s'mores dessert and chocolate martinis. With this being a steakhouse I really felt like the steaks should have been much much better. Such a disappointment and probably will not return.

The food was absolutely fantastic! The atmosphere was amazing, the service was second-to-none, and the filet mignon was unbelievable. It was so easy to cut and it tasted so great. The wood-fire grill was a superb way to prepare those steaks. Everything was fantastic! I came with my girlfriend from MD to Charleston for the weekend, it was our first trip together. It was absolutely fantastic, and this was our first dinner reservation this past Friday (11/11/2016) night. Everything was magnificent and I cannot wait to come back to Charleston, SC-- and Burwells!

We were a family of three for dinner.
The best item was the side of farro - it was delicious.
Our server was knowledgeable, friendly, and accommodating as was all the staff. And the atmosphere was quiet, with room between the tables that we were not smashed against other diners.
Too bad the food isn't as good as the rest. We started the meal with the cheese plate appetizer, which needs help. Of the 5 cheeses only the blue was tasty and the accoutrements were sad - a small bit of honey, 5 raisins, a few slivered almonds and - seriously - 1/4 of a dried apricot; really they couldn't spare the entire dried apricot or a fig?
#1 ordered the steak well done said the meal was delicious. #2 ordered a medium rare steak and it was overcooked, and #3, who doesn't eat meat, ordered the red snapper, which was tasty, but also cooked too long and was dry. #3 knew it was a steakhouse, but thought there would be more than 3 choices for fish/seafood, and the single pasta dish also had meat in the sauce. That was disappointing.
We will not spend $200+ again there on mediocre food.

The only reason this place was not JAMMED the night we visited is that it was a longer walk from the Visitors Center/city center. What a great restaurant. The service was genuinely impeccable. The ambience is totally urban/industrial, right down to those weird concrete bathroom trough sinks. We were impressed with the comprehensive and tasteful wine list. The hot-stone wagyu beef appetizer was the kind of delicious that makes you realize you are making memories. We liked the options and small plate/large entrees options. The owner stopped by to talk to us, and is very hands-on with running his place. The bar even looked like a good place to hang after a long hard day at the market across the street. The waitstaff (all of them) treated their tables with genuine engagement and attention.
One thing that really sold me was my call to the restaurant. I had reserved on Open Table, and then learned our shuttle to the downtown area might not allow us to reach the restaurant by the reserved time. We were told that Charleston restaurants often do not hold tables, and/or even charge the credit card. When I called the restaurant, I got the most gracious and reassuring treatment imaginable. The owner assured me he would never do that to his guests. GO EAT HERE. This place is great.

I had a reservation for 7:15, but the three ladies joining me were running late which turned out to be good. A able of 13 showed up as 18 and the staff was in the weeds. I waited and when they showed up we were seated and had a fantastic meal. Service was awesome - we even were given a spare appetizer. I would certainly eat here again and I recommend it.

Second timers. Special occasion. Pleasing contemporary decor, lighting. Cool rooftop bar. Service good and friendly. Steaks and sides good. Bar noise beyond excessive and essentially ruined a nice dining experience. Some type of partition needed downstairs to isolate bar noise and TV's. Would have gone to a sports bar if that's what we were looking for and for a lot less $$$$.

service was great. deviled eggs and pad thai amazing. the beef was good but in my mind i think they over salt the proteins. we had the wayngu and scallops. i personally think the flavor is great without salt but thats my taste. but save room for dessert and get the charleston smores... wow

Wonderful dinner and experience. Our waitress was very knowledgeable about the food and menu. She was engaging but not intrusive. She was very attentive and made sure our night was special as we celebrated our 26th wedding anniversary. We have celebrated there for the last 3 years and look forward to many more. The food was delicious and the desserts were incredible.

We have eaten at all of the better steak houses in Charleston, and Burwell's ranks favorably with all of them as to service, food, and ambience. I would recommend it to anyone who would like a great steak, although I was tempted by the Low Country surf and turf! Love the home made ginger beer, also!

Disappointing. Nothing was bad, but nothing was really good. I won't go back, nor will I recommend it to others; especially not when there are several other places within a few blocks that are considerably better.
