About Buddakan - Philadelphia
Stephen Starr’s Buddakan is a spectacular restaurant featuring exotic flavors of modern Asian cuisine with creativity and drama. Bon Appetit notes, "The mostly white space is striking, with a lit-from-within communal table in the middle of the room, a waterfall & a ten-foot, candle-bedecked Buddha. The religious icon watches over hip customers indulging in pan-Asian cuisine that far surpasses the fare usually found at hot spots like this." Newsweek reports, "Design also serves as a signifier for cuisine. You walk into Buddakan, one of the hottest new restaurants in Philadelphia, past a shimmering waterfall & Japanese river stones & you say to yourself, 'ginger-miso everything' even before you see the magnificent 10-foot Buddha dominating the dining room." Named one of “America's Top 50 Restaurants" by Travel & Leisure and 'Top Restaurant for Fun' by Gourmet, Buddakan has become one of the country's most talked about restaurants.

Buddakan - Philadelphia Ratings and Reviews
We celebrated our anniversary here. We were blown away by both the food and service. Our waiter was attentive, but not overly so. The meal was paced well. The food was delicious--the BBQ pork tenderloin was melt in your mouth good. We will for sure be back!
Took my teenage kids to Buddakan for the first time for my wife's birthday.....they loved it....we already did. Tuna spring rolls as an appetizer and the lamb chops for main were to die for. They were the standout dishes but everything we ate tasted great, honorable mentions go to the whole peking duck and the glazed pork belly. It's a noisy, lively place so not great for a first date but we had a blast. Only pain felt was on the credit card!
Food was fabulous & creative.
Crispy calamari salad always my fav. We shared everything and even though some items may have come as three, waiter advised he could make it four. Group of four women following Bridal gown shopping so a little celebration added to the occasion. I would definitely and always have recommended.
We got the lobster fried rice, Kobe beef satay, pepper beef, and lamb chops. They were all really good! I loved the atmosphere and the vibe of the place. Cool place to go on a date with your significant other. Service was pretty good, and the cook and cut of all the dishes was spot on. Would go again!
Update as of 10/15/17-- they charged me twice for my drinks that I got at the bar. They told me they'd transfer my tab over to my table so I wouldn't have to pay two separate checks, but they ended up charging me twice for them. Hopefully this gets fixed asap.
From the moment we entered the delightful scene with the big Budda looking at us and
the waterfall muting the noise of happy diners, we were treated like royalty. We were
seated immediately and just the right amount of concern shown by the wait staff. The food was outstanding and beautifully presented. This was a fabulous evening.
Our dinner experience at Buddakan was certainly top-notch! Our servers were very pleasant & attentive. The menu was filled with so many delicious options that it was difficult to choose. Two outstanding selections were the wasabi crusted filet & the sea bass! Both were tender, juicy and well seasoned. We also enjoyed the dumpling sampler which enabled you to try a variety of their dumpling offerings. Would highly recommend it & will definitely return!
The food is fantastic and has been consistently so for the last 12 years I have been going. Unfortunately the service is lacking. In our server's defense, I think he had too many tables. However, his lack knowledge regarding the menu and basic service skills were evident.
I am not accustomed to making reservations 3 weeks in advance utilizing “Open Table” and being seated at arguably the worst table in the house. Near front door / Hostess stand facing an exit sign wall and the bar. This table should be for walk-ins
It actually makes me reconsider the value of Open Table.
Other than to table location, the server was very inattentive and when we approached the manger we were summarily dismissed without so much as a request to know the issues at hand.
Buddakan served as a perfect venue for our son-in-law's 30th birthday dinner. We all loved the food; many delicious choices. My daughter said that it was the best sashimi that she ever had.
The service was great, very friendly and very helpful to us first time diners. I would definitely return to Buddakan for a future special occasion.
It was our first and last time there! The food is overpriced. The portions are small. It was extremely loud. The presentation of the food was better than the taste. Spent about $25 on valet parking and the parking attendant snooped through my car. Just overall a bad experience and we won't be returning!
