Bru Grill and Market Ratings and Reviews
It wasn't a good night, unfortunately. Just the perfect storm of understaffed wait crew and novice experience level. Manager did a good job of owning accountability for the slow service, wrong food items, etc. It might just have been an off night. The cocktails and dessert were very good.
We were an older group, so we found the atmosphere noisy for conversation. The food was good, but a little uneven. Our host did recognize our ages and offered to seat us in the quietest part of the restaurant. This probably won't be my first choice in the future, but I would recommend it to younger family and friends.
Seating will depend on what you're looking for. The bar area is VERY noisy and the restaurant tables near the bar share the noise. If you sit in the back, off to the left it can be downright quiet. Go at 1 for lunch and you might have the whole place almost to yourself. Food is good, service is usually great, value is good. Will definitely go back and would recommend to friends.
We were a bit disappointed with this visit. We moved and hadn't been for two years. Went out of our way and the food was somewhat lackluster. The mac & cheese side we ordered reminded us more of shells with Velveta, and the French Onion soup did not have Gruyere as advertised. Otherwise, the service was excellent, the fig and arugula flatbread was great as was we hoped. Not sure if we'd be returning or recommending to our friends anymore. Will probably give the benefit of the doubt and try again in a few months.
Although we had an incident at the restaurant, the manager on the premise was very accommodating and made it an enjoyable night.
Food: The Deep Fried meatloaf, Sweet Thai-Chili Chicken, and Diver Scallops were fabulous, however the Ceviche needed more lime and “heat” to enhance the flavor.
Drinks: My husband and a friend loved the Old Fashion cocktails and a couple of other cocktails that they thoroughly enjoyed.
Desserts: O.M.G...the vanilla bread pudding was so yummy. A totally must try if you like this type of dessert.
Service: We had a guy in training (Jason) who appeared quite nervous. He and his trainer waiter were very attentive and personable.
We will certainly be back for another get together with friends and/or to check out their HH menu.
I have been here many times with family and friends and the experience has always been enjoyable and the food is always great and sometimes unusual. This is why I felt very comfortable and confident to take a business associate here and it turned out to the perfect place and was a hit with my guest. When we arrived the the bar was very lively. The host placed us in a perfect location, so we could see the game but we could hear each other. (It was a business dinner after all). I ordered the ribeye, which I always love, but my guest surprised me as he went for the deep fried meatloaf because he never heard of that dish and wanted to try it and he loved it. I had never tried it either so he gave me a small slice and he was right it was delicious. I had never had it as I just did not understand the dish, but now I do so anyone who likes meatloaf, you would love this. My ribeye was delicious as usual and I shared some with him and he loved that also. Our waitress was new and needed some help with some of our questions, but made up for it with her excellent service and big smile. I think she will fit in nicely with the Bru family.
Thank you Bru! Now I know that this is the type of place I can take anyone.
We had to wait 15 minutes for our reserved table, I thought this is not a good sign.
However, once we were seated we had a wonderful meal.
Service was a little stretched, and water glasses were not readily refilled, bar service was slow, but the food was worth the wait.
I would return.
We wanted to do something different on Saturday night rather than Sushi. The restaurant is too pricey all things considered. The $24 Lobster Mac N Cheese was overcooked and under-flavored. The pretzel bread did not really taste like a pretzel, little dry as well. The seafood trio had a piece of fish that did not seem real. Looked like a frozen patty and the texture was not pleasant. The single scallop was very good. The single bacon wrapped Prawn was dry. The craft beer was acceptable but as is common with craft beer pubs, not cold enough. Even though we made reservations and showed up way early, a booth was not available even though there were booths open when we were seated (lose one star for service). With the consideration that our waiter Alec way too busy his service was very good. That made all the difference in what was a somewhat underwhelming overpriced meal.
Nice place. We had dinner there on Saturday night and they had live music. It was fun for hubby and me. He had the fish special with risotto and I had the deep fried meatloaf. Both wee delicious. Service was good. Saw other table had the prime rib and it was a big plate and the beef looked really good. Would definitely come back.
I love Bru and now that I know how to get a reservation, I will go more often. Celebrated my friend's birthday this time. She had the salmon--delicious! I tried the fried meatloaf. It was good but too much sauce on top of it, kind of drowned the flavor a bit. The birthday treat was outstanding and my friend was delighted with the presentation. We shared the cake and ice cream and both were delicious!
Ate with my boyfriend and his family. We actually were unfortunately in town for a memorial service, so it was nice to be taken care of with great customer service and a good meal. Our server Michael greeted us, answered all our questions, and served us all within a timely manner and a with a smile. It was truly appreciated. We all ordered different things and not a bad review in the house. Started with the cheese and Charcuterie medium sized which was delicious. It comes with 4 cheeses and the rest meat. The honey was very sweet but the walnuts were to die for. Some of the entrees we ordered were the bok choy salmon(the pictured), the prime rib (pictured), the fried meatloaf (had too much sauce for our taste but it was delicious), the shrimp pesto pasta, and the French dip sandwich I believe, was all very good.
We decided to head to Bru for dinner this past weekend after seeing the menu. The food concepts were absolutely perfect. Where Bro suffered was in the execution. The Deep Fried Meatloaf was very good, but the Mac & Cheese shells were barely cooked with little to no cheese. Once again, the baby back rib concept was excellent including a Dr. Pepper glaze and bacon however when the ribs arrived they were cooked with the bacon on top. This meant that neither the rib or bacon was cooked all the way. Additionally it meant that fat from both created a goo under the bacon. Had the items been cooked separately then brought together it might have been edible.
Finally, our waitress was so polite but only be so attentive when overseeing at least 4 regular tables and an anniversary party of about 12 people. Just so much for one person to handle. Especially since all were seated at the same time.
For the record as mentioned, the concepts were great and just the type of place we would want to regularly eat, but the execution was so poor that I would probably not go back or recommend.
BRU always delivers. when you want a place that consistently delivers running on all cylinders always, BRU is the place. Friendliest people, always great food, rotating beer on tap selection as well as bottled varieties, craft cocktail program that continues to get better and a wine list that would make anyone drool. Very reasonable pricing all the way around. A true value! and what . neighborhood gem......all this equals a superstar restaurant.
Came here for a business dinner...all the beer we kept having to order seemed to be sold out. When the food finally came it was cold. The service was not the best either. I come here for brunch and it's great, but I wouldn't do a business dinner here again.
