Bonaparte Ratings and Reviews

Visiting Montreal for the first time and celebrating a birthday with family. Bonaparte does not dissapoint. I had the tasting menu and it was great. My wife had their fish special and very much enjoyed it as well. It is a nice quiet place that affords good conversation, great food and great cocktails. The bar tender did us a favor and made a Bourbon Punch based on a recipe we had and it was great too! The waiter was very attentative and had a good sense of humor. He was very informative as well. The entire team clearly wants to make sure you have a great experience.

Best meal I have had in a very long time. I was visiting Montreal with a friend and we enjoyed our meal so much we returned again the next evening. Delicious, beautiful food, nice quiet atmosphere in a lovely historic building. We loved the variety of offerings on the prix fixe menu and felt it was a great value for a wonderful meal. The first night I had the chicken breast in a sage cream sauce that was delicious. My friend had the pork tenderloin in a Dijon mustard sauce. It was so delicious that I had it the next night. This was actually not even on the menu the second night, but another pork tenderloin was so they graciously prepared that in the Dijon mustard sauce for me, which was above and beyond my expectations, particularly since it was a prix fixe menu! On the second night my friend ordered the hangar steak in a cognac peppercorn sauce. We both chose the salad for our first course and chocolate mouse for dessert on this menu, both nights, and were thrilled with our choices. There was not one single thing we did not love! If I ever make it back to Montreal, this will definitely be my first choice for dinner.

My friends and I ate at Bonaparte for dinner on a Sunday night. There were people there but it wasn't overcrowded. Our waitress was excellent. She was very helpful with the menu and made the whole experience an enjoyable one. The tasting menu was very good, and culminated in a delicious assortment of cakes for dessert.

Down to earth travelers who have seen and tried quite a lot really appreciated this straightforward no nonsense honest restaurant. The menu revealed the passion of the owner and it was definitely delivered on the plate. The design, decor, seating, comfort and service were superb. Our server, Caroline made excellent suggestions and superb wine selections for us. Overall, an A-List Experience.

My wife and I celebrated our anniversary here and opted for the 6 course tasting menu. It was absolutely amazing!! For the main course, I chose the sole. It was beyond any shadow of a doubt THE BEST fish dish I've ever eaten. The food was all around fantastic. Service was excellent. Around 7pm, thugs got a bit more crowded and the noise level picked up with it but that's to be expected. I highly recommend this restaurant!

Phenomenal experience as always. I have dined at Bonaparte 5 or 6 times now and am always very impressed. While their tasting menu only seems to be further perfected each time I have it, I do wish that they would change the choices from time to time so that I could try new dishes.

Nice restaurant. There was nothing wrong with our experience. The only concern was the food was warm but the plates were very hot. Obviously, some of the food is plated in advance. Food should have been hotter. Would recommend but wont rush back.

My wife and I went to Montreal with friends. We wanted a special place to dine and celebrate our anniversaries. We could not have chosen a better restaurant. The food was suburb and the service was impeccable. The portion sizes were perfect and everything was cooked to perfection. The dining room is lovely and lends itself to quiet conversation. We cannot wait for the opportunity to return and will not hesitate to recommend this restaurant to anyone visiting Montreal.

We had our first dinner at this restaurant earlier this month. Although there is construction happening in the street just outside, but there are enough sign and access for the guests to be guided to the restaurant.
The service was very good, and so was the food. The interior is nicely decorated and the noise level is low. The staff really pays attention to your dietary needs and suggests accordingly. We will definitely be back.

We went to Bonaparte's for our 30th anniversary. We wanted dinner but they were full so we went for lunch. the food was superb, the waiter wonderful and everything was so special. they were doing construction right in front of the restaurant but it was so quite and lovely inside it did not matter. I had veal kidneys and they were luscious!

High end restaurant, but didn't quite fulfill the lofty ambitions. Our server forgot to bring over the special desert that I had secretly planned for my partner's birthday (planned in booking and then twice in person at the restaurant), so that was a bit of a sour spot. Food was very good (but not great or overly memorable).

Lovely ambiance with live jazz. The food was excellent, the staff attentive and it was really quite a nice place. We arrived a little early for our reservation but they took us as soon as they could. Would go back!

We just had a great experience at Bonaparte. We went with the tasting menu ($78 per person) and it took 3 hours. The food was amazing. Loved the Dover Sole. Service was excellent - professional, efficient but friendly. Will definitely be going back when we are next in Montreal.

Enjoyed our meal. Walked from the intercontinental hotel and were very glad we had turned on Gooogle maps! Other reviews about plywood etc were not exaggerated! The food was worth the hassle. Service was good as well. The mushroom ravioli we had as appetizer was truly the highlight. My salmon was wonderful and my husband enjoyed his scallops. My husband enjoyed his lobster bisque but wished it had more lumps....none... my salad was just okay. Actually it was a bit disappointing . It was just bland. Difficult to eat and not well dressed. Not a problem just what it was.

What a wonderful meal! Thanks to trip advisor, we booked Bonaparte for our only free night in Montreal. The service was attentive but not rushed. We opted for the 3 course gastronomic which was very reasonable. The food came on hot plates, beautifully presented. Portions were generous, and the desserts all made in house are to die for. Generally desserts are not impressive but restaurants feel compelled to offer them. Not here, Have the key lime pie!

Wonderful setting in Old Town Montreal. Dinning room was quiet. Service was prompt, courteous but not over bearing. The food was wonderful especially the mushroom ravioli. The menu degustation was well portioned and all the courses were flavorful and beautifully presented. Despite the temporary street construction making access difficult this is one restaurant well worth the visit. We definitely will return on our next visit to Montreal

Dined here for lunch while visiting Montreal and would highly recommend it! The food was beautifully presented and delicious. I sampled the beef tartare with fries and my friend ordered the salmon roses...both tasted divine.

The service and food was excellent. Getting there was a little tricky because of construction on the street. Liked the all inclusive 3 course lunch which worked well for the group. In turned into a very long lunch as a result but everyone enjoyed it.

Quite a disappointment. First food on the table (bread) showed up 1 hour after we sat down. Entire meal lasted 3 hours. One course per hour--ridiculous. And they didn't even prepare the dessert--we brought the cake! (It was a friend's 60th birthday, so a very special occasion.) Bar tender, server, and maitre d' were all pretty much disengaged. Food: fair. Cannot recommend.
