They prepare some of the best steaks I have ever eaten. Perfect temperature. the only disappointment was in the past, the bar hand carved a small block of ice into a round ball that fit perfectly in your cocktail glass. I loved that special attention.

We selected this from various "best restaurants" lists when researching where to eat during our first visit to San Antonio. We were not disappointed. Sergio was an outstanding, attentive waiter with a wonderful sense of humor. Our only disappointment was the small pours in the bar beforehand. The food was delicious.

We wanted to celebrate a special anniversary, so we decided to eat at Bohanan's. Everything from the staff to the food and ambience of the restaurant was very pleasing. The steaks and lump crab are over the top! We will definitely return soon. Thanks Bohanan's!

Bohanan's is. My wife's favorite restaurant, and when we are in San Antonio, it is a "must go" for her. Start with the cocktail lounge downstairs. Bohanan's hired a cocktail expert from New York to come and teach the restaurant old pre-prohibition classic cocktail recipes. So in addition to simply wonderful cocktails, there is great life jazz to enjoy. The restaurant is upstairs. The staff is exceptional. In order to serve at Bohahan's, you have to have multiple years experience at a top tier restaurant, and it shows. For our meal Saturday, Enrique served us, and he was simply fantastic. The "chef's first course" is a house recipe, toasted bread with homemade whipped cream cheese and their proprietary candied jalapeños in jalapeño jelly. It's simply great. We split a Caesar Salad to start, and it's a great salad, as is the Capresso or wedge. My wife has a fondness for filets, and I tried the 12 oz ribeye. We always order the seared fois gras over the steak, which is a must. It makes a great steak, exceptional. The lobster creamed corn is an exceptional side, as well. I normally order the NY Strip, and this was the first time I tried the ribeye. Let me tell you, it's the way to go. Not an overly thick cut, the ribeye literally melted in my mouth. Pam's filet was superb as well. You will not be disappointed with the wine list. Desserts and after dinner drinks are a must. Try some of the Kona coffee with a bit of Bailey's. Dinner at Bohanan's is never a rushed affair. Food comes out perfect, or it doesn't come out. If you have somewhere to be, allow for time to enjoy your meal, otherwise you may be late. I am a foodie. I have eaten at 2-3 of the tip 10 steakhouses in the USA, including Pappa's in Houston, Brennan's in NOLA, Delmonico's and Gordon Ramsey;s in Las Vegas Bohanan's is as good or better than those.

I love to get the house salad as a lunch portion size, and add grilled chicken. Half of the time, it is delicious, but it is never consistent. Sometimes the salad comes with slivers of cheese, sometimes the chicken is seasoned differently, sometimes it has tomatoes in it, other times it doesn't. I ate there recently and the greens were wilted and the chicken was very dry. For such a nice restaurant, consistent meals should be a given.

The service was excellent. Our waiter and all other restaurant personnel were fun to talk to and attended to all of our needs. The filet mignon was very tender and cooked just right. Very pricey, but the same as other restaurants of its caliber. Steak was standalone; everything else was ordered as side dishes, which were big enough to split except for the Caeser salad, which was tiny. We had 2 steaks, 1 order of mashed potatoes, 1 order of broccoli, and 1 Caesar salad. For two without desert and with 1 glass of wine dinner was $143. With tip it was $173. We were on vacation, so this was a special occasion for us. We enjoyed the experience very much, but I would not ordinarily pay that much for a meal.

The food at Bohanan's was excellent. I do recommend the food. However, I do feel like the restaurant is overly expensive. Also, while we were there other people in the dining room were shouting and using very foul language. It is hard to have a romantic evening when F-bombs are audibly being dropped two tables away. Also, it took forever for us to receive our food. Our reservation was for 9:30, and we were not served our entrees until 11:30. I know Bohanan's has an excellent reputation, but I was severely disappointed and would recommend going elsewhere.

My wife and I had never been to Bohanan's so we decided our 5th anniversary would be the perfect occasion. First off, I want to say that our servers Preston & Richard were very knowledgeable and helpful, and they were both very personable. I believe they were trying their absolute best to perform.
There are a couple reasons for the low service rating and I think management is probably more to blame than staff. Unfortunately it seemed the team was overloaded on this particular evening. There was one very large & boisterous (to the point where I asked if we might be able to move if it got worse) group of women consuming much of the staff's time and attention (and breaking wine glasses). There were also two other smaller groups that were dining in our area, and my wife & I felt as if we were an afterthought.
I normally don't take the time to write reviews but I feel management should know, especially considering the money we spent on our special meal. The time between being seated and placing our order was excessive, our water glasses were frequently empty, and my glass of wine arrived when I was nearly done with my entree. We had to ask for bread even though those around us were offered up front. We were not offered an opportunity to view the tray of premium cuts, but those around us were. We just felt somewhat ignored and relegated to second-class.
The food was absolutely superb. The foie gras was divine, my wife's salad was beautifully executed, and the A5 Wagyu filet was the best I've ever had. Only problem is, we ordered the 12oz ribeye, not the 7oz filet. When the steak arrived, It certainly looked like a filet and not a ribeye. I asked the gentleman who brought it to us, and he insisted it was a ribeye. I knew better, but I wasn't going to press the issue. For $125, I should have. When the bill arrived, sure enough we were charged for the filet and not the ribeye we ordered. By then we just wanted to leave & I wasn't going to argue with anyone. It was late.

Food was outstanding, exactly as explained by our very competent and gracious server Jessica. Although she was very busy with many tables in the restaurant, aside from the fact she was training others, the service was amazing. Someone was always available to help if the server was busy with another group.
The second night the guys went to the spectacular bar to have a nightcap before returning to the hotel. When asked about Whiskys, they were told they have just about everything. And sure enough, they did. Even the obscure Scottish Whiskys they prefer. But the most amazing thing was later that night, when Jared, one of the managers called me and informed me my husband had left his credit card earlier in the evening. When he told me they didn't open the next day until after we were to leave, he went the extra mile and brought the card to the hotel so we wouldn't have to cancel and reissue. That was absolute over and above anything I would ever expect. I will definitely return any time we are in the area. Amazing experience all around.

Bohanon's is rated by Yahoo as one of the top 10 steakhouses in the country and there is no question it is well deserved. The wine list is extraordinary and you will find steaks here that you cannot find anywhere else. It's pricy, but its the kind of pricy you want to pay for. My wife and I had a bottle of Stout Family Cab Blend (135.00), we split shrimp cocktail and dessert (pecan pie), asparagus and potatoes au gratin. She had the Allen Bros. 7 oz. filet (41.00) and I had the Waygu 8.5 oz filet (125.00). WIth tip, we spent just under 500.00 but, as I said, worth it. Tommy Taylor was our server and he was exceptional. Listen to everything he says and you won't go wrong.

Don't use Open Table. Call the restaurant for much more options than are available on Open Table. I could not get the reservation I wanted through Open Table, but the restaurant had exactly what I could not get on Open Table.
The place is super, but very much over-priced. Food is terrific, but expensive. It is a really good place if someone else is paying the bill.

The food was adequate but pricey. The service was slow and although we were seated 2 hours before the show at the Majestic Theater, the food arrived about 1 hour and 40 minutes after we were seated and we had to eat so quickly that we did not have time to savor the food and really enjoy it.

We brought ten guests to this downtown restaurant. It's a classic steakhouse with superb service. Two gentlemen took care of our party. The steaks were excellent as were the varied side dishes. They also have an extensive wine list which should provide something for even the most discriminating.

It was a Saturday night, so the restaurant was very busy and slightly understaffed. Our server had good timing and was very knowledgeable, but was obviously overtaxed with the number of customers. The food was excellent and the wine list very good. Feel free to order sides to share as the baked potato is about three pounds! If it wasn't downtown, I would make this my go to bar.

Have been to this restaurant several times and this was y far the worst experience thus far. Maybe everyone was having an off-day. It took more than 40 minutes to get a drink in the downstairs lounge. Hostess was waiting on the bartender to seat us upstairs. My wire ordered her steak medium and I ordered mine medium rare - unfortunately they came out switched. Neither of us complained as we were hungry and didn't want to wait for another steak. The service was good, but not as good as past times we've been there. I don't know that we'll go back for a long time. For the money there are too many other prime steakhouses in town that offer more consistent service/food.

First, let me say from the outset that Bohanan's has been a favorite of my wife and I for several years. This past Saturday was an example, once again, of why that is so. The accommodations were just as requested, the service was impeccable, the food perfectly prepared, and there was no rush to a finish line. Cocktails and wines from the bar were perfect. The house jazz quartet was very good musically, knew a wide repertoire of jazz standards, and was at a sound level that allowed quiet conversations to continue. Lastly, the valets bringing our car was in a great humor and reflected the quality of the restaurant overall.

Our absolute favorite downtown dining spot. Chef Mark Bohanan and the professional wait staff provide THE most amazing dining service each and every time! The steaks are an amazing but the service is like none other in town. Thank you Sergio for treating our compadres like royalty💕

Went there for dinner before a concert at the Majestic Theater across the street. Décor is excellent, food was outstanding, and the service was wonderful. We split a steak that was cooked perfectly, and also shared appetizers and sides of grilled oysters (which are to die for), macaroni and cheese (also to die for), sautéed spinach, and steak fries. The server catered to all of our requests including my specific/special bar requests. The tab for the two of us, including a glass of wine and three cocktails was quite hefty, but we knew that it would be beforehand. If you want to really treat yourself to a special meal, this is the place!

Very fine steak house. Excellent pickled pepper in cream cheese on crostini appetizer.
Staff very doting. Sides were great but we could have shared one. Alot of food was left over. A bit pricey but overall a lovely evening
