We have been to several Benihana restaurants over the years and have been to this one at Arcadia several times to celebrate birthdays. It's become somewhat of a tradition for our family and we go typically 2-5 times a year. In general our experiences have been good and the food and service has been consistent. However, this time that was not the case. I don't know if us going on a Wednesday night had anything to do with it, but it took forever to get a chef at our table, a lot longer than usual. Then the chef we got was a very nice guy, but it was painfully obvious that he was very new. He was very slow (what normally takes 30-45 min to prepare took him nearly 90 min) and overcooked and over seasoned virtually everything. He was talking to himself as if trying to remember the step by step directions and did very little of the "showmanship" that we are accustomed to (the things he did attempt failed). Now I understand that each chef has to start somewhere and we were very patient and understanding of that. We didn't say anything as he was cooking as to not embarrass him or cause him to go any slower, but when you pay that much for the food and expect a certain dining experience, it was very disappointing. When I brought it up to the manager at the end of the night she simply said she would let him know he needs to work to improve his skills and offered me two free appetizer coupons. Really?! I would have hoped for a better response from management for what ended up being a very sub par dining experience that was meant to be a celebration for my daughter and wife. I do want to emphasize that I have been to this Benihana many times and this is the first bad dining experience I have had, but hopefully they can address this issue moving forward.
(1) Miso soup was barely warm, (2) had to remind Servers for rice, (3) had to cancel a "to go" order because there was confusion as to whom was going to prepare it, (4) asked for "spicy paste" and never got it, (5) the chicken portion of my meal was not timely.
Dreadful dining experience. Relying on decades old reputation when it was trendy.
Chase was our server and he was absolutely amazing! He came at the perfect time to refill drinks. Geromine (I think thats how you spell it) was the best chef ever! he was so funny and just made everyone feel welcomed. His food was amazing as well!!! I love coming to Benihanas any chance I get! I highly recommend this place. in case your wondering My favorite dish is Rockys Choice.
Service is slow in that the chef takes a long time getting to our table to cook, but Tommy our waiter was very attentive. The food is overpriced because of the "entertainment" value of the cooking show; they gauge you for chicken fried rice at an upcharge of $4.50 per bowl. Use the birthday $30 gift card by signing up online - oh the catch of THAT is you can only use it Monday-Thursday.
Great dinner except it will take 8 people to open a table. So even if you had reservations at 6:45pm your table wont start until 1 hour later. That is the usual time. So overall we still like to go and enjoy the show and dine.
Really good service and food
Our chef Adam was very good. He was entertaining and the food was delicious.
We've been going to Benihana for our birthdays for several years now. We love it! The food is always cooked to perfection right in front of you & is very entertaining. Our server got us refills before we even flagged her down. We've been to the Puente Hills location & the Arcadia location. Both are great. Arcadia is larger, so if you don't have reservations, you don't usually have to wait as long.
The food was really good. The chef seemed a little nervous/inexperienced, but he was very friendly and funny. We had a great time.
Keith the cook was awesome. He was perfect and the food was the best
The service needs much improvement. We waited 20 minutes for our drinks, the waiter was forgetful and was not attentive. We made a reservation but still had to wait 15 minutes to be seated. I would not go back to this location again.
I guess your experience depends on your Chef. We had a good one.
Food was very tasty. Show was entertaining.
My son and I had a fun time. The chef knew all the tricks and then some. Food was yummy.
Had a great time ! Best fried rice of my life Ahahah
Great food and service. Randy was a great chef!
Randy, our chef was wonderful, fun, and very polite to the kids and making them laugh as well as myself and girl. Had a blast thank .
This restaurant made our late valentines dinner great!
Great service. Excellent food. Fun atmosphere. Fantastic experience!
Food and service were very good but we didn’t get a picture
Service was SLOW. It would be nice if they can be more attentive and enthusiastic. My dinner should not be longer than 3 hours
I have attended other Tappan tables and benihanas is very little portions. Ordered fried rice instead of white rice and the chef had to scrap off remaining rice around the cooking table just to have enough for my portion. I had steak and chicken and chicken portion was 6 small cubes after the chef cut it up.
For the price of 2 meals I paid over $100 .
Really over priced.
The manger Albert Lu was terrible. We filed a complaint to the corporate. We have a reservation with 6 and all showed up, we ant to add one more person to the table and he refused to seat us until the other person show up. The restaurant was empty and no one was waiting. He was so rude and when we show our frustration with the policy, he threatened us he can ask security to kick us out. We are Banihana customers for over 10 years and never been treated like this. They need to seriously review the service provided by Albert Lu
Benihana is our family's favorite restaurant for any celebration. We know we can always count on an expert chef and an entertaining Samauri rolled into one. The food is of the freshest ingredients and always tasty. If you haven't been to Benihana, get going! You are missing out on a fabulous and delicious dining experience!
Greatest restaurant I’ve been to in a while with a chef at every table and the filet mignon was delicious
Really bad service from our servant named “Joe” he forgot one of our orders. Our cook needed to call manager a few times because he was no where to be found. Dinner wasn’t worth what we paid for Valentine’s Day.
It’s was my husband and I first time here and we absolutely loved it here. Everything was great the atmosphere the food everything was great. My husband even enjoyed his meal and he really doesn’t try new things but he loved and we will definitely be back again.
Great food, service, everything. As always! Be sure to sign up for the chef's table to receive your birthday coupon every year
Good to go during "off" times so that you don't have to wait as long to be seated or to be served your food.
We had a horrible cook. Not a good show very minmal and no ending with those 2 wooden things. Our reservation was at 5:15. Our cook didnt start cooking until 6:05. Almost an hour. He must of been new. my chicken was undercooked. Just a bad experience. I doubt i will go again for price and service...
I didn't like that there were bags for my left overs and I was not offered any sauce Togo. The manager should have made arrangements. It was awful going out carrying the boxes out.
Benihana is one of my wife's favorite restaurant, and it's so kid-friendly that it's perfect for a birthday celebration. Randy was our chef, and he was so funny an entertaining that it made the day great. Our waitress was tremendous and other wait staff also helped out to provide great service!
The only thing that made this visit was the chef. He was amazing. The server was just horrible. First we were dropped off at a table and no one came to talk to us for 20 mins! When someone finally did she clearly didn’t want to be to work on a Saturday. I have a good allergy and said I had a milk allergy. She told me I couldn’t have fried rice because it has egg In it. I was embarrassing... I explained to her it’s butter that has milk in it not eggs. Sigh. Just a horrible experience. I’ve had wonderful experiences at Benihana on Long Island and in farmington Hills, MI. Terrible service here and everyone had an attitude.
Food was excellent. Staff was wonderful. Manager Linda is the best!
Signed up for the birthday coupon, which gave a $30 certificate towards the meal.
Teppan chef was entertaining and funny. Wife enjoyed her birthday meal. Plan to return for my birthday later this month.
One of the best birthdays I have had in a long time. Forget how good the place is. Plus it won't break your pocket
This restaurant was disappointing from the get-go. I had a reservation at 6:30 and they didn't seat us until almost 7pm. The waiter was terrible and kept forgetting things, and had to keep coming back to re-ask our orders ("did you say medium or rare?" "did you want fried rice?". And he didn't know what a shirley temple was or even what grenadine was. It was really frustrating. The chef and food were good, but that was about it. At the end, our waiter took forever to bring the check, and tried to box up my food while I was literally still eating (had food on my chopsticks when he asked and tried to take my plate). Just frustrating overall.
Always a fun place to go. As with all Benihana's they never seem to have enough Chefs to fill all their table and if you do not make a reservation you are usually out in the cold in getting a table unless you wait at least 1-2 hours in hope of a cancellation.
I saw many people walk away because of the wait time and the hundreds of dollars lost by the restaurant in potential customers. If I owed the place this would not be happening.
Our out of town relatives had a fantastic time! Great to be entertained over a meal. Dinner was like a cooking lesson. We came home and tried making food at home! Was a great success.
Our Chef was extremely boring. He barely talked and just politely made the food. Other tables were have a much better time because the Chef was entertaining as well as being a Chef.
