We went to this restaurant on my birthday. We were given an impostor for a chef. He was an old man that could not speak or read English. He was attempting to speak spanish to our waitress which could not communicate in that language. He did not have any tricks up his sleeve to flatter the crowd at our table. My kids were disappointed and asked me if something was wrong with the man because he seemed overwhelmed and confused. He could not read our ticket and gave my food to other people. He made no attempt to make it right with me. I spoke to a manager upon leaving after I paid my bill and he offered us nothing. He said he would give is a voucher/coupon but the restaurant was all out. We have dined at several Japanese steakhouses. I have never been scammed like this though. Save your money and choose a different place. Our bill was 170.00 for 5 people and left unhappy.

this was a terrible experience, the service was horrible... at one point the chef dropped a used fork on my wife's plate and then just picked it up and continued putting food on her plate... this was another patrons used fork. The chef spoke zero English so the other people at the table asked for things and he didn't understand and just made a standard meal... they wanted their shrimp mixed in with their yakisoba...I normally love bennihana but this has made sure i will not return to the indy location... it was also dirty and as we sat their we never had any platees cleaned from appetizers.... the manager did come apologize and gave us all 20 dollar gift cards to the table for the terrible experience and the chef Jorge not listenting to anyone and the not clearing of plates so at least they saw how messed up the place was... not a good Saturday night experience..... and I am not asking for authentic Japanese chefs.... I am not stupid.... but at least part of the experience at bennihana with our kids is the interaction with the chef and if they can do that this is not a 40 dollar steak.....

My wife and I were lucky enough to buy the meals for 2 other young couples that were seated at our table. One of the couples included a gal working toward her masters in medicine at IU and her fiance is in the Air Force. Made me very happy to buy their dinners and they were very grateful.

Have been to this restaurant many times. Usually a very good experience but this night was an exception. The room was uncomfortable because not enough was done to balance the heat from the grills in the room. It was quite warm. The Chicken dish I had was very over cooked. It was difficult to chew. The Waitress was difficult to understand and didn't explain our options very well at all. It would also help if the chefs could vary their entertainment routine.

The cooks used to really put on a show. This time, however, ours was really not energetic or engaging. It just looked like a job to him - I don't even recall him smiling or talking to anyone in our group (unless it was to answer a question). Our waitress wasn't particularly friendly either. The food was good, but overpriced. Our meal for 6 was $165 before tip and really wasn't anything special. We went for my son's birthday - more for the experience - and walked out feeling a bit shorted :(

I usually have great wait staff service here but this visit it was extremely slow and a few things were messed up. I wonder if management has changed. Sad not to see the usual familiar faces working- I hope it was just their days off.

We were a party of six celebrating a birthday. We made reservations online and arrived on time. The restaurant had just opened for the day and we had to wait at least 20 minutes while they prepared a table. We then had two other people added to our table which surprised us making it hard for our party to communicate due to the way our seats were arranged. This was a first time visit for two in our party and the cook was hard to understand and became rude at one point. The food was good but it took a while to get our check and even longer for them to come back to collect. I've had better meals of this type at other locations.

We went to Benihana for my birthday on July 4th. We figured the restaurant would be less busy due to the holiday. We were correct as only half of the tables were occupied, but we did not count on the wait staff to be so limited. There were two waiters working and while they did their best, it was too much for them. Not once were we asked if we wanted another drink and water refills did not happen. Ordered a crunchy roll and it came out after the fried rice was prepared and served. The restaurant appeared to be less than clean and overall kind of chaotic. While the food was good, the overall impression we walked out with was the restaurant had gone down hill since our last visit there. We might give it another try, but there are several other new restaurants in the area very similar to Benihana that are cleaner and have a nicer ambiance.

Service was not great. They forgot rice side dishes for the two kids in our party, had empty water glasses for too long, and had to ask twice for the ice cream that was supposed to come with the kids' dinners. Our chef didn't really put on a show (no train, no volcano, spatula twirling) that we saw going on at the other tables. Only reason for the three star overall rating was because the food that we did get was good.

Benihana was very noisy. Because it is a group of people at a cooking table, I guess we should have been prepared for that. But we could hardly hear each other speak. I think it is too many people in a confined space.

Very unhappy with our service and food on most recent visit. My family and I come here at least 5/6 times a month for lunch/dinner. Our service is always awesome and our food is always very tasty as well as hot. Our service was horrible-we had one of the server's who we have had numerous times before. It did not seem no busier than when we have been there before.
1st our reservation was @ 1:30pm. We arrived @ 1:30pm. We finally ask @ 1:45pm if we were going to be seated-no one had given us an update. We were finally seated @ 1:55pm.
Then our drinks took another 20 minutes before receiving them. The chef was wonderful and our food (that the chef prepared) was awesome! We ask about our Sushi that we ordered when we placed our drink order-and she said I will check on the Sushi. After 15 minutes longer-the gentleman who was our chef-brought out 1 of the Sushi's ordered and told us he would give us credit for the small roll and that they cx'd the rest of the order of Sushi. Not his fault @ all. We seen the manager-who we normally talk to-they come over to the table to ask how the service/meal was-but she didn't come over to our table this time. I think my family and I will wait a while before we make reservations again. Thank you for listening.
Note; We received our Sushi after we had been finished with our meal for 10 minutes.

I had not dined at Benihana's for probably 20 years. Back in the day it was one of my favorite restaurants. My how things change! First, a reservation doesn't mean anything. We waited more than 30 minutes for our table as did others crowded into the tiny lobby where there is only very limited seating. Most of us stood for the duration. The only other option is the dark, dank bar. The restaurant décor was sad, tired and faded. At a minimum everything looked like it needed a good scrub. When I pulled out my chair, my fingers slipped because of the oil residue. No one was particularly friendly or inviting. Our chef was very ho-hum about serving us. He made numerous mistakes in his routine (which I don't even care about). He seemed disinterested; just shrugged it off; and promptly left when he was finished. Overall the experience was disappointing. The food was okay but not great and did not make up for the tacky surroundings. Won't be going back and wouldn't recommend it.

We have dined many times at this location and this was probably our best time. Our chef was excellent, the food was great. My only disappointment was when our picture was taken..the window behind us was open and the sun was shining brightly and our picture was not very good. There was four of us and it was so bright that we could not see the other couple very well. The brightness of the sun shining in the window just made their heads look white. I know when the picture was developed the staff member had to see it was not a good picture.

I have frequented this restaurant for over 10 years now, but no more after Saturday. My reservation was for 10pm and we arrived at 9:30. We didn't get a table until about 10:20 and the door was broken so every time someone came/left it sounded like gunshots were being fired. The cook didn't do any of the usual tricks. He rushed and cooked our food and it didn't taste the same. Then the servers rushed and boxed our food up 5 minutes after we started to eat. The chef had just left our table!! The servers brought out ice cream before we could even finish dinner. Our whole table felt rushed to leave. Horrible experience!

I would say this is an average Benihana. There are other Hibachi restaurants in town that are lower cost and as good or better than the show/food that we had. My experience just fell short of what I've come to expect for the premier Hibachi in the US.
Not worth the money
I've been to numerous Japanese steakhouses, but never a chair before. They have always been locally owned and operated. I was disappointed with the quantity and price. At the two particular local places we like to go to, I can feed my entire family of 4 for less than $100, this particular trip my youngest daughter stayed home, so two adult meals and a kids meal was over $100, not including the tip. We had zero leftovers to take home and generally my experiences at other Japanese steakhouses, we usually have two meals worth of leftovers because the quantity is so great. I don't mind paying that much when I get 2-3 meals out of it. This was very disappointing, but overall the food was good, but definitely not "knock your socks off" good.
Has really gone downhill
We've been to this restaurant many times and have noticed that it's gradually gone downhill. We had a reservation but still has to wait for a table even though there were plenty of empty tables. Our server took a very long time to get to us. We had to ask for silverware. My menu was sticky and has stains on it. The table was so sticky you couldn't touch it and the chairs were also sticky. Food portions are smaller than they used to be. Bad service and overpriced food
Missing a cook!
Our reservations were for 6:30. We didn't get seated until almost 7:00 and waited forever for cook because one called in. We were finally told this after we had been sitting for about 20 min. Would have been nice to get some compensation or discount for the wait, as it was a school night for my 6 yr old, and we didn't get hone til 9! Other than that food was awesome like always.
