Don't count on being sat at the time of your reservation. We were not the only ones to be sat past time. 25mins isn't too long, but when people that checked in after you are sat, it does become a little annoying.
They have free valet service (no self-parking) which was nice, however, we didn't have any cash on hand to tip them. Hopefully they get a % of the gratuity paid inside.

Benihana has gone downhill. I've been coming to Benihana since I was 16 years old. Im 44 now. I havent been at SFO Benihana since 1992 and it was the worst out of all that I have been to. You would expect top class and top food since it is in a tourist attraction area. Food was not up to par, not enough vegetables, too expensive, cook was not communicative nor friendly or outgoing. I dont mind spending good money on food and specially at benihana. But I was extremely dissapointed for the overall level of service. I would have preferredto take my date to japantown sf instead or even southern california. But i chose sfo location and i made the WRONG choice. I wish I could get my money back. Extremely dissapointed.

Horrible experience. What's the point of having a 6:30pm reservation if you put us at a table with people that have a reservation at 6:45pm. To top it off we didn't get shown to to our table until 7pm! 30 minute wait with a reservation is unacceptable. Especially because we showed up early and it was my bfs birthday. He didn't feel special at all. The reason we planned an early dinner is he goes to bed early since he has to get up at 5am. No reason dinner should've taken that long! Our waiter constantly disappeared. By 7:57 our chef still hadn't come to our table and we were about to leave. No apologies at all and nothing comped for our long wait. Our waiter was rude and rolled his eyes when I asked for extra salad dressing since the salad was watery. This is our third time coming in a year span all for special occasions and all three times were a disappointment all for different reasons. It's likely we will not be back unless Benihana plans to make this right. We keep trying to give your establishment another chance, but the value and experience is not living up to expectations.

We were a party of five including my 2 year old grandson. We made the reservation because we thought our grandson would enjoy the cooking show by the chef, well known as a part of the dining experience at benihana. Our chef was terrible. He was unable to perform any of the tricks usual to the dining experience. He was unprepared, even with the ingredients he needed, having to request our waiter to go back to the kitchen to get them. He was so slow that some of the guests had their meals packed up to go. My grandson was so bored that I took him to the window to watch planes land at the nearby airport. When my wife complained to the manager, he told he would take 25% off the bill and that the chef would get better with practice. The "25% and the chef getting better" were of no consequence as the evening was totally ruined.

The staff here is excellent from the valet to the greeter with the awesome blue glasses who wished us a fantastic evening on our way out. Our chef was fun and was very talented. The place was packed but we didn't wait hardly at all before being seated. My only complaint was the sad state of the chipped paint on the walls, dinged up chairs, and over worn carpeting. But I can only imagine how much good time abuse that place can take with the volume of business they do.

Great place to celebrate birthdays and enjoy the company of others. Yes it's loud and smoky, but we love the food, atmosphere, and the chefs are just fun to see. And it's always fun to sit with new people at the grill/table and talk story.

Wow, my first time at Benihana, and was it TERRIBLE! We had to wait 40 minutes AFTER our reservation, hostesses kept telling us different stories, then when we were seated we were left there alone for what felt like ages til we got up and asked the hostess to bring us water and get a waiter for us. The chefs - who are the main attraction, putting on a show for you - were so depressing, just going through the ropes like they do the same thing 25 times a night (which they do). The place was such a din too - loud, crowded, and smelly. Never again!

The server does not serve at all. We were sitting at the table for 20 minutes before we can place the order. Then waited another 20 for the chef to show up. The other tables who sat after us had eaten already. Ordered some , asked the steak to be medium rare and it came well done. Ordered ice cream and they came half melted. Only the server came to sing the birthday in lighting speed. It was a wonderful night speaking from a lair. The valet parking was the best part of the night.

We've been here many times, and always enjoy the views and food. It was pretty busy this time, and there were a lot of screaming kids, which I normally wouldn't mind, but given how much we pay and how late it was, I was hoping for a quieter evening. At one point some of the kids were so loud I had to leave to the bar. We've been here many times, but this past time it seems that it's turned from more adult type venue to family venue. This is fine, but we think we may visit less for dates and romantic evenings since the ambience has changed drastically. Overall, however, the food was great, and the chef was a good entertainer.

Host was not a happy camper when we first arrived because she wouldn't seat us until everyone was here.
We told the waiter that it was my mom's birthday but never acknowledged or sang Happy Birthday to her.
I also told the waiter that my daughter has a seafood and egg allergies and to cook the food separate. When the chef was cooking, I reminded him and he just yelled out the waiter needs to know and tell me this. Then I replied, "I DID!" The chef just rambled on that the waiter should've told him.
My stomach did not take the food well. After all that trouble and to not feel good after the meal just topped it.
Never coming back.

I treated my extended family to lunch for my mother's bday. Atmosphere: It was difficult to have a conversation because it is very loud in the restaurant and due to the seating arrangement around a hibachi grill. The seating is probably better suited for a couple.Service: The waiter seemed impatient. He was irritated with my mother when she couldn't hear or understand him. He also completely ignored one person as she was ordering (literally in the middle of her sentence) when straight to me (skipping 2 people) then back to her when questioned if he got her order. Food: The food is so-so. I prefer more spice and flavor. Kids like it because it is very plain. Drinks: We ordered mojitos and margaritas. The regular mojito was good but, the pineapple/tropical flavor was too sweet. Parking: Be prepared to use the valet service or you cannot park in the parking lot. The valets were friendly and quick. I have been coming to Benihana in Burlingame since I was a child, so the place is like an old friend.

Our reservation was 8:45pm but didn't get seated until 9:40. Then the cook didn't arrive until 10:00. My kids are already yawning at this time. When the chef finally cooked something, first bite was hard. The rice was not cooked well so you can still feel the grines. My husband's steak supposed to be medium well but the chef made it well done. It was chewy! Our food has no flavor and yet we paid over $100 for our dinner. By the way the restroom had a puke on the middle of the floor and no one ever bothered to clean it up. Sorry but my family will not come back. Not a good experience.

Server/menu not very helpful. Ordered separate order of shrimp tempura & veg tempura. Shrimp tempura comes with veggies.....had I known that I would've ordered 2 shrimp tempuras. Menu/server doesn't mention this. After I mentioned to server & her reply "you already have 4 shrimps". At Benihana you are seated with other families. I didn't want to start an argument with her and make the other people's dining experience uncomfortable.
I would've liked more shrimp !

The service was absolutely horrible. From the time our table ordered DRINKS, it took our waitress over 30 minutes to get back to us. That was only one of maybe two more times we saw her all evening. We had to get up and ask to have our drinks refilled. The poor chef was running back and forth to the kitchen because he did not have all the dishes he needed. She should have been there to help him out. When it came time to have dessert and pay NO ONE at our table even asked for the dessert that came with our meals because we never knew if she would ever be back. And at that, again, my husband had to get up and go to the front hostess area to even see if we could pay our bill through them. Unfortunately, our waitress did not have a name tag on so we don't know what her name is. But this was the absolute worst service ever at Benihana. You would think there would be a service level expected of servers at an establishment that charged so much for one plate of food. The management didn't seem to care that our whole table (we were a party of two all around, so four different couples) was ignored all evening. We watched the table next to us in envy of a server who would do something as simple as refill a drink. We will not be going back to Benihana at all.

This is a very good restaurant to go to if you want good food and a great show. All though it's noisy and you share a table with people you don't know if you don't have a party of 8+, it's a great restaurant. Would definitely recommend to others! The chefs are amazing and the waiters are very attentive to the customers. If you don't have a reservation you could end up wait for a while as meal time can last up to two hours.

Always a good show, quality of food was good, Chef was excellent. A bit tight for 10 people, if just taking half a section. I recommend keep it to 8 people if taking half the section. Great if you have group of 16 people so you can occupy entire section of cook top area.

There's was no point of making a reservation at 4:30 it's was my Birthday and we had already family plans at 6 pm.
We waited 45 minutes to be seated to a dirty table. Then wait for the cook to do the lame cooking show. Don't. Expect anyone to apologize for the wait at all because from Yelp reviews that how they run the restaurant. We had to leave early and got late to our family gathering. I don't recommend this place.

My husband and I have dined at Benihanas on several occasions and our past experience was definitely not the most appealing. We were dining in celebration of my mother in laws 73rd birthday. Both our host and our chef lacked the Benihana dining skill set and customer service, not vibrant, lack presentation spark and from what we have to compare to-- did not put effort into relating to those at the table. The dining experience felt rushed-- they didnt even take our photo, which I thought was customary to the Benihana experience.
