Benihana - Beaverton Ratings and Reviews

We love Tepanyaki and are willing to drive to get it. This is standard Benihana fare and all of the offerings that we enjoy. The experience depends on what chef you get. This time we had a chef that was quite 'over the top' in trying to entertain. High pitched squealing laughter as he laughed at his own jokes punctuated the entire meal. It was uncomfortable, but the 4 year old in the other party of 6 thought he was hysterical. While I enjoy the juggling aspect of the performance, this chef was really hyper and just rattled our nerves with his constant need to entertain, rather than prepare our meal with an occasional joke. He kept looking for positive feedback to his jokes, and we smiled throughout, but, I would certainly rather have a more low-key chef next time. The food is all the same and all prepared the same. I'd prefer a more relaxed setting - considering, especially, that we had to share our table with a family of 6 celebrating a 4 year old's birthday - which was more than enough excitement. Next time, we will make some special requests as to a quieter table with a more low-key chef to have a relaxing dinner.

Great chef Chris. Food was amazing and full of flavor. The waitress was unorganized and dingy at best. The table we sat at had a terrible breeze it was freezing back there. We love it and will go back despite issues!

Excellent customer service! Our grill wasn't working and we had to move tables so we had to move. They had fresh drinks and complimentary appetizer so quickly we barely realized we switched tables. They were all very friendly and energetic. Food was very good but the shrimp was slightly over cooked but otherwise very good. Lots of food, you won't go home hungry.

Had a great dinner with an excellent chef and enjoyed my family celebrating my birthday with me. One of my favorite places to dine out and it was a perfect evening. Thanks to the bartenders too for making our wait so enjoyable. Congratulations to Daniel for such an excellent staff.

Took my grandson to celebrate his 5th birthday. Always entertaining for children as well as adults. Food was good but not as good as in the past. Lobster could have been better tasting. Should not steam the lobster, should just fry it on the grill.

You need to seriously fire your bartender. Ordered an extra dry Grey Goose Martini from our waitress and received a dirty martini. Sorry, useless bartender, but customers don't order premium vodka martinis and expect you to dump olive juice into it. Learn how to make drinks! Sent it back and your bartender laid into our waitress when it wasn't her fault. She was so upset, she left. FIRE YOUF BARTENDER.

It was the first time my wife and son had been here and they were blown away with how entertaining the chef was while cooking our food. My son is already asking to go back! We will be back soon! Thanks for all the wonderful food and entertainment.

Great entertainment by the cook! Nice place to celebrate a special occasion. We enjoyed celebrating my son's birthday with the whole family. Fine to share the table with another family also celebrating a birthday. It was fun for everyone including my 5 year old granddaughter! Food was great as well!

The food was good and the service fantastic but they shoved too many people around the hibachi grills. I had to eat while sandwiched in between my husband and a stranger. I had no elbow room and the room was HOT from too many people and the grill. The chef couldn't fully "perform" because so many people were there and some were being shoved into the chefs work area.

I didn't care for the way the food was served. We were given our rice...then as the guy cooked the rest of our food...the rice was cold by the time we ate it! All of the seafood that came with our meal was WAY overcooked. We were surprised to see the cook started cooking the shrimp first...when it takes less time to cook than chicken!!! The smell from the cooking left our clothes very stinky, I had to wash our clothes a few times the next day to get rid of the grease smell. I have seen this restaurant cause I live in the neighborhood and always wanted to try it. Well now that I did I will not be returning anytime soon...quality and prep of the food needs big improvement as well as the prices!

New cook, not much skill and the food was not very tasteful. Forgot special options more than once! Next table had a great cook and very fun, we enjoyed that table much more than our own. They need to train their people better, so everyone gets the same experience.

It's very loud in here, I'm glad we were towards the back so we were a little more sectioned off. It was hard to communicate with each other or the staff because of the noise levels. Our chef knew three people at the table so we felt a little ignored. The person who brought our drinks was slow. Make sure you are prepared to have all your clothes smell like this restaurant!!

Made 6:30 PM reservations for 7 people on a Monday evening; the entire party arrived on time and we still waited close to 45 minutes before our table was ready. Dinner was good, although, I have been a patron of this restaurant for over 20 years and this is the first time portions of my "appetizer" were served at the end of my meal. I ordered the colossal shrimp and received them at the same time as the hibachi shrimp appetizer and zucchini - my slices of onion came at the very end when I had finished my meal.
Overall, the meal was good and on par with what I've been served in the past. However, for a $350 tab and nearly 2 1/2 hours for dinner (including wait time) not sure I'll be returning. Very unfortunate, as I have very fond memories from MANY special family celebrations at this location.

We usually have a great experience at Benihana, however this last visit was not up to par. We had a reservation at 6:15, and was not seated until at least 6:35. We had expected to wait a few minutes, but not 20 minutes since we did have a reservation. We also were on a time limit as we needed to get one of our members to work at a certain time. While ordering our food we had asked for no mushrooms on one of the meals. The waitress told us that we could just let the chef know when he asked who did and didn't want mushrooms. That was fine with us. We then waited another 30-40 minutes for the chef to even arrive to start cooking. Once the chef did arrive he seemed about half interested in talking to us, and the other half in talking to the table behind us. And then he served all of our steaks with mushrooms... he didn't give us a chance to ask for no mushrooms. Once the steaks were cooked it seemed irrelevant to argue because we were on a time limit. Our reservation was at 6:15 pm and we had to scarf down our meal, and still were not able to leave until 8:30 pm. Needless to say we did not make that time limit, and the person who needed to go to work was late.
We can appreciate the fact the restaurant was busy as it was dinner time. However when you pay $110.00 ($79.99 with the coupon) for a birthday dinner you would expect that the restaurant would be staffed appropriately. Also, the restrooms were not properly stocked. In one stall alone there was no toilet paper or seat covers to be found. It was also very hot in the restaurant which is something that we have never encountered before.
Please improve the quality of service, and attentiveness of your staff. If changes are not made we will go somewhere else for our birthday celebrations. Again we normally receive excellent service so maybe it was an off night. Thank you.

We had the worst chef we have ever had at Benihana. I have been going to different Benihanas for over 30 years. This was by far the worst experience. It was my son's 10th birthday and the chef didn't do any of the normal Benihana fun things. He just cooked the food. He didn't cut the shrimp, didn't ask us how we liked our steaks and didn't fully cook the zucchini. I would like to add the food didn't taste as good as it usually does.

This is the worst Benhanas that we have ever been to in the world. It was noisy like a sportsbar. They didn't,t serve the food in courses, I got one Large plate, the shrimp on the plate getting
Cold, while they finishend cooking the steak and the Vegetables. We have been in Tokyo and the complete differences with This restaurant is a drama. Not worth the name Benhanas

Despite the raucous hubbub, Benihana Beaverton delivers. The staff is knowlwdgeable, couteous, accommodating and enthusiastic without the hipster attitude prevalent in PDX dining. Significant is the good tasting food.
The down side is the sequence of food delivery from grill to plate. I wanted to eat my protein with my vegetables not afterwards.
