We dined there upon a recommendation and were not disappointed. It is a BYOB (which is great). The service was very good and so was the food. We had one of the specials of the day appetizer. The mussels in a cream/white wine/tarragon sauce that was excellent. Our two seafood dinners were also very good (as was the salad). We would definitely dine there again.

This was a last minute family dinner for 8. They not only took care of us immediately, they could not have been more accommodating or professional. Service was terrific. Food was very well prepared and excellent. Don't be in a hurry. They cook every dish to order, so bring a bottle (BYOB), sit tight and enjoy the quaint atmosphere. Very much worth the trip. Glad we stumbled on it. Definitely plan on returning.

This is truly a hidden gem in the Villas. The ambiance is elegant without the upscale pricing. Our food was good. My meal itself was mahi mahi with pineapple salsa to come also with asparagus, but instead had other seasonal vegetables, perhaps because asparagus is out of season in the summer. The salsa had pineapple in it but looked more like more mango, but that was fine with me and the fish was fresh. It still tasted delicious. The 3 of us dining together were not disappointed and would return again.

This is a small restaurant in an unexpected place. Close enough to Cape May without the high prices. Hostess, wait staff were all very professional and welcoming. A house salad was served in a large bowl, plenty for two or three and was fresh, crisp and yummy. The fresh bread was delicious. My entree, prime rib was a but tough and over cooked for me but tasty nonetheless. My husband was very satisfied with his choice. Chocolate cake was incredible!
We will be back.

We have visited Back Bay Bistro many times and have never been disappointed. This time we brought a friend who was visiting from Florida. She enjoyed her dinner and told us she wished she had a neighborhood Gem like BBB. Mussels Marinara was yummy, and the filets were tasty tender and juicy.
You can never go wrong at Back Bay.
We made reservations for 1:15pm on Labor Day. When we arrived there was only 3 other tables with people sitting at them. The waitress took us to a table and then we waited for about 15 minutes to reappear. Once she took our drink order, it was another 15 minutes for us to get our drinks.
We ordered our food off of the menu and 20 minutes later our food arrives. Out of the 4 of us, one of the entrees was wrong, my sandwich was extremely dry and salty and the others were just ok. We overheard other tables complaining that their meals were wrong too.
Service was awful, food was mediocre and the place has zero atmosphere. I would try it again, but the Back Bay Bistro left a bad taste in my mouth!

The food is never disappointing , but the service could be more attentive. We had to get up from our table in search of our server twice to remind her of the refills we asked for salad, bread and drinks . Found her in the service area chatting with other workers.Time to hire more servers.
Nice little neighborhood spot
We decided to venture outside the central part of Cape May to try something new. Back Bay Bistro has a lovely interior, recently renovated, very clean, fresh and up to date. The food is solid fair, a nice varied selection with daily specials. They also have a separate take out window to make it easy for customers. Nice little spot if you are in the area.
During the winter months in Cape May County so much is closed. We took the short ride from Cape May to visit the Back Bay Bistro and will add it to our frequent dining venue when we are in town. The decor was tasteful, recently redone. The food was good. It was a BYOB, which I like and the server was pleasant and helpful about menu choices. She made good recommendations. I would suggest this as an alternative to the places in Cape May.
great renovations/great food/great service/BYOB
Happy that they were open during the blizzard of 2016. Great renovations!! Anne was a great server and we enjoyed our dinners. Started off with shrimp cocktail and little neck steamers. Salad, bread, potatoe and veggie come with all dinners. I had the sirloin special and my husband had the prime rib. Best end cut he's had. We ended with coffee and dark side of the moon cake.
Family of 4 ranging in age from 17 to 74, all loving it! Best salad, best bread (included in dinner),
Mussels in Marinara, tasty, tender and oh so good. Fried Calamari never disappoints. Our dinners were veal 3 different ways and all tender, with just the right accents. Our daughter had
the pasta special which was in a cream sauce with scallops and shrimp. She loved it. We had 3 take home boxes as the portions offer enough for a lunch or late night snack the next day. Usually we have dessert, but we were all a little too pleasantly full. AND it is BYOB! What could be better!
byob, there's a liquor store across the street. We had to wait about 15 min for our table. Friendly staff.
They ran out of prime rib :( I got the stuff flounder instead, very good. My friends got the Fra diavlo, and another seafood pasta. They were good. Very large portions. We even got a pizza to go. Pizza was def good.
It's OK, a Hit & miss. The crab cakes were a huge disappointment. They tout them as no fillers which I love but they had an odd fishy taste. The crab bisque would have been good but it was thick & flour tasting rather than creamy. My son had ravioli & they were good, as was the veal piccata. The family salad & bread (a pizza doughy thing ) were very good. The asparagus was thick, hard & unchewable & the garlic mashed potatoes bland. Places like this try too hard to be fancy. If you go for the simple fare it's probably just fine. I bet their pizza is terrific!
Not what it used to be.
Had been a big fan. Used to go 4-5 times a summer. The last two times we went in the last month were very disappointing. This week-end, we had a reservation, so were seated immediately. That's where the good service ended. It took an hour to get our appetizer, and an hour and 15 minutes to get our meal. The waitress did not apologize for the delay, and did not explain it. She appeared as though she did not want to be there. She was not pleasant or friendly, very matter of fact. I had fried shrimp and scallops. The shrimp were all bread, no meat. I have always loved the food here, but it seems to have gone down hill. They have not changed the menu in three years. I would chalk it up to a bad night, but we have been there twice this month, and both nights the service was extremely slow. Won't be going back for quite a while, if at all. Hope they get their act together.
Not so good
Table was against the wall service was fine calamari
Was excellent we ordered Veal parmesan first hint it was going south was Veal was coated with Panko.
Very dry no flavor penna was over cooked sauce was
Blah. Expected a great night not the way it went.
Keep going back
Every time we are in the Wildwood or Cape May area we have the back bay bistro on the list. I have been there a number of times with others and each time everyone was pleased with their meals whether it was Pizza or Prime Rib. Great food with all of the amenities and a broad selection for diverse tastes. Don't forget to bring your own bottle.
Not up to par this time
We have been enjoying Back Bay Bistro since it opened, having at least one meal a year during the spring, summer and fall. This time we had a 6:45 pm reservation on a Tuesday evening, which was probably an error in judgement on our part. The place was full of families with small children, which made the noise level quite boisterous! The table right next to us had a two year old who did not stop screaming and the parents took turns going outside with him which gave the other patrons intermittent relief. This was not the fault of the restaurant...I only mention it as a caution to choose the time of your reservation accordingly.
This is a BYOB with free cork service and we were given an ice bucket and glasses immediately upon being seated. Our orders were taken and we got bread and salad and then we waited.....for an hour....watching other tables that were seated long after we were receive their meals. We were having a nice time talking (at this point all of the noisy families had cleared out so we could hear our conversation) but our waitress walked by us several times with other patrons' food and never acknowledged that we had not gotten ours. When I finally asked about our food, she informed me that everyone had gotten to the restaurant at the same time and the kitchen was backed up. When I pointed out the couple next to us happily enjoying their meal who had arrived a good 20 minutes after us, she said she would check. 5 minutes later our food was being plated.
Our meal was very good, but this dining experience was just not as good as expected.
Hostess is very angry, she need a vacation.
Went there on a Saturday, waited over an hours for food. Everything was great except right before we got our bill the hostess came to our table and was very rude. Our two year old had a iPad with the sound on mute and she came over and said to turn the sound down, I do not know what she was talking about there was no sound, plus the room was very loud you could not even hear your self talk. I was very embrasses for my family because they got upset and will not return. I go there weekly, but may not come back for a while, I need time too cool off.
Never a disappoint
Love BBB. Been going there for lunch and dinner since they opened. From the minute you walk in the door until you leave, I feel special. Owner always be syops by to greet you. Staff is very good makes sure that all your needs are met Food is outstanding especially mussels marina!
Expect a wait
Make a 7pm reservation 24hours in advance for Saturday night. All options were "available". Arrived at 6:55pm and told 20 minute wait as overbooked "because of online". (Who's in charge of their own reservations?) We then checked and 7:5 and 7:30pm were still listed as OPEN? We were seated at the 20 minute mark, inside as requested. Large single room, very noisy- could not hear each other (party of 3). Waitress was energetic but too many tables, including a party of 10. Food was slightly better than average but nothing to rave about. BYOB, which is ok. Family oriented.
Overall, worth a try, but not one to try again for a while with all the options in the cape may area.
Another great meal
Back bay bistro is close & convenient with very good food and early bird specials. We took our daughter and two grandsons out before they left and we weren't disappointed. The kids liked their meals, spaghetti & chicken fingers and they also nibbled on our shrimp. Had the early turkey and my wife had the shrimp and scallops. All served promptly, family style salad and excellent service. Thank you.
