Bacchus - A Bartolotta Restaurant Ratings and Reviews
We came for a business dinner following a long meeting. This was a first time for half of our party. Our food was delivered quickly and the server was knowledgeable of the cheeses, and thus sold us on the cheese plate. She did seem a little flustered and confused at other times, however she was kind and helpful. Her Server Assistant was apparently new, or still learning as she did seem very confused and flustered. We all enjoyed our salads very much, however my main course was underwhelming, and the presentation of my college's course was not well done. The wines we selected were fantastic, however we did pour it ourselves more than once (the restaurant was not busy). Two in our party had hoped to try the Pappy flight, however they were out of two of the four, so they were only able to enjoy two. The manager/somm did make a few stops at our table and was kind. At the price and name brand of this experience, the whole thing did not meet our expectations. Service rating is 'fair' because we had higher expectations to be "wowed". I can't say we would be back anytime soon.
Portions were small compared to other Bartolotta restaurants, waiter pushed sweet wine tastings after we specifically said no sweet moscato or port wine. Chefs tasting menu was a “secret” but we wish we would have just ordered off of the regular menu. Not worth $400. It was worth half of that. Atmosphere was nice but nothing extraordinary. Wine list was nice, as expected. Drafty, there wasn’t a cozy spot in the restaurant.
Lovely, lovely restaurant. Service is outstanding. Pricey, but you get what you pay for. Waiters/waitresses kind, considerate and incredibly attentive without being annoying. Atmosphere is very upscale but not stuffy in the least bit.
The food is exceptional. Unusual but not bizarre. The size of appetizers and entrées generous for this type of restaurant. I only gave four stars because I was a bit disappointed with the Bluefin tuna I ordered the last time I visited. Cooked perfectly (rare) but a bit fishy and the texture was not right. Very unlike this restaurant. I am assuming this was an unusual occurrence. Will definitely be back.
WOW, just WOW!!!! Celebrating with some colleagues over a Seven Course Chef's Table with Wine Pairings. I don't even know what to say! Thank you Dan and Lydia for your stellar service! Vince, Thank you for orchestrating the evening and your wine pairings were spot on! Amazing and talented Chef, Nicholas, an honor to enjoy your AMAZING creations and also to meet you. Thank You for taking the time to chat with us!!!! Joe and Jennifer, the extra treat was so kind of you! Much Appreciation and Gratitude! I couldn't possibly say enough about your establishment other than being Super Special! Just the way you made us feel tonight! Cheers!!!!
Food quality was a bit less than usual. Tuna was a bit fishy. Waiter never once came back to ask how anything was. Had to pour our own wine after the 1st glass.
They ran out of NYE party favors just before they got to us.
A bit disappointing since we took friends there for the 1st time. Not sure our friends will be back but we might.
I would personally like to thank Amy and Lisa for a fabulous experience. They were personable, professional, and friendly, all wrapped up into two. We were having our 42nd anniversary, and our 93 year old aunt was with us. It was an evening which will live in our memories for a long, long time.
Thank you to those two ladies. Please tell them of my review.
Sincerely, Dr. Martin Moldenhauer
Everything was perfect right from the start. Quiet, elegant atmosphere. The serving team - Dan/Lydia - were helpful and very professional with their suggestions and service. Our appetizers and meal were amazing. And, don't forget dessert - it was wonderful.
My husband and I eat at nice restaurants fairly often. This was our first experience with Bacchus. It definitely WILL NOT be our last! This place is incredible! We were never treated in such a "grand" way (for lack of a better word)! They made us feel like royalty! Everyone went out of their way to make the special evening even more so by the things they did. I just can't say enough about important we felt, and genuinely cared for. We have been to other Bartolotta Restaurants and have been treated very well. Bacchus definitely stands tall above any experience we've had, hands down!!
I have had Bacchus on my list for a long time, and was eager to try after attending the Ballet earlier. We ended up arriving at the really cool location and very nice interior design. We were sat next to a large table that was noisy and very rude (guys high fiving for the lady talent in the room). When we sat down we started with a 1/2 bottle of wine and perused though the menu and decided to go with a local cheese and crackers and a couple of appetizers. The Octopus was fantastic, but the tuna tartare was very bland. One the server returned to the table we decided to have another 1/2 bottle of white wine and stick with the appetizers. At that point, this is where the servers attitude changed on a dime! So sad that the server drags the restaurant experience down even further. We received our bill and found that the cheese was $38.00!!! I couldn't believe that we were not told! As a former 5 diamond server myself a could not even fathom that philosophy, even if I opened a $500.00 bottle of wine for a guest. I did not make a big deal of it at the restaurant as I did not want to ruin our night. Since our ending bill was a measly $220.00 and I learned a new lesson that a servers individual wants and needs can drastically cloud the vision of a restaurant, while the restaurant takes the hit.
Food was very good. The spinach salad and the pumpkin soup were very good and and both were nice sized portions. The bluefin tuna was amazing as were the scallops. Coffee was hot and fresh.
On the downside prices were very expensive including $25 for a 4 ounce pour of wine, $12 for salad and $40 for probably 4 ounces of tuna. We really enjoyed our meal but Not sure we would return due to the pricey menu. Lisa provided great service
Pricey, with small portions at that. The food was very good, but not worthy of the cost. They had some white truffles the night we were there but the prices of those were really atmospheric. As it was, dinner for two was over $200 and we didnt go crazy on wine etc. Definitely a special occasion location only, unless you manage a hedge fund or are independently wealthy.
The place was only half full on Friday night, which is telling.
Waiter was not attentive at all. Order a bottle of wine never ever came back to refill our glasses.
Order a porter house steak waiter did not even ask how was the steak prepared or how was the first bite..
It was two tables in the area around 6:45pm thats it. He catered to a table of five who were above noisy for such a quiet ambiance setting.
Our bill for two individuals came out to $172.00 and it appears that is not enough value to get the waiter to show you appreciation.
Upon being seated we were greeted by our servers. They were wonderful, professional, and a joy to be around. I often feel bombarded by servers in high end restaurants who are reeking of desperation, pushing every expensive item on the menu in order to up their take. At Bacchus, this simply does not happen, and it seems that they really want their diners to enjoy an experience tailored to their own price point and interests.
After reviewing the extensive wine list, we settled on a bottle of Boudreaux, which was recommended by our server. An awesome bottle, priced at only $48! The wine list is amazing. Truly the best I have seen in the city. Anything you could ever want in wine was represented in this list. One of things I was most happy about, was the fact that there were many bottles under $100. That’s always refreshing to see.
The food is outstanding. We started with bread and butter. The ciabatta was fresh, but ice cold, the flavor however, was great. My wife ordered pumpkin soup, it was wonderful. Creamy and rich, the dense flavoring was exactly what you would want this time of year. Soups are always wonderful at Bacchus. I ordered the spinach salad. It was served cold with three or four large chunks of Lardon, and a crunchy, garlicky crouton. It tasted incredible. Grainy mustardy spinach and fatty fried pork flavor. Some of my favorite things. Highly recommended. We opted for the chateaubriand for two as our entree. The star of the night, 20 oz of perfectly medium rare USDA prime Filet. Served with the most amazing earthy mushrooms, Robuchon style pomme purée, roasted Brussels sprouts, and bourbon cream sauce. A meal made for kings. You want this meal, you need this meal. Consequences be damned, order it.
Dessert was mocha creme brûlée. So good. Way better than the original, and the original is our favorite dessert. It was so rich in flavor, I could barely eat it. That good.
This place is dynamite. Take someone special for a world class experience
We had an amazing time at this restaurant. The sea scallops and fresh fish were amazing. We started off with a cheese plate that I had a very nice presentation. Our two servers did a wonderful job explaining everything on the menu. The wine selection was amazing. And the dessert was also very tasty. I will definitely come back.
Warm and welcoming, perfect, caring, intelligent , thoughtful yet totally unobtrusive service, most perfect, brilliantly conceived and brilliantly, perfectly prepared appetizers and entrees with absolutely nothing overlooked, and every aspect of your dining expectations satisfied. Your meal and your entire dining experience will definitely be a wonderful (even exquisite) one that is memorable for all the right reasons! Bacchus does everything right, and they do it seemingly effortlessly! I love this restaurant. They really understand what a great dining experience should be. 💖💖💖💖💖💖💖💖💖💖(And they succeed perfectly every time.) :-))))
My wife and I dine out frequently and are considered quite picky critics. Our experience was overall excellent. Great service, delicious meal and very good service. Everyone was very friendly and they make you feel very welcome.
As far as negatives go, the music was not in sync with the ambiance. After listening to the second (it sounded like James Brown song), I asked the wait staff who was in charge of the music. She informed us that it was the general manager. She sensed our dis approval and said perhaps she could do something about it...which never happened.
Any way the overall experience was excellent, and it was apparent to us that the staff is very well trained.
