Ashten's Ratings and Reviews
The place was so quaint, at least 100 years old. We sat in one of the alcove window tables so we were off to ourselves. Make sure to check out the beautiful lounge and pub. The food was well prepared and everything we tried was delicious. I was too full for dessert so took the salted chocolate caramel cake home, which I ate for lunch the next day. Good choice!
Will definitely go back when in the area
While visiting the Pinehurst Resort, we ventured to the small town of Southern Pines. We loved the main street and options for dining and pubs. We really enjoyed Ashten's and surprised by the food quality. Our server was very attentive and friendly. Adorable, historic building. The appetizers, artichokes and fried squash blossoms were crispy and amazing! The main courses and wines were very well prepared. We also enjoyed moving to the small bar area to the side, which had great couch seating areas and beautiful wood carved bar. Spot on for a great experience, good wines and fabulous food! Will come back again when visiting from Florida. You have great food and golf in NC.
Have had good luck here in the past, but an expensive beef tenderloin came out well done instead of medium. I was starved, so I ate it anyway. My friend enjoyed her meal of roast chicken. The atmosphere in the pub is very cozy, and the service is excellent.
I went with my boyfriend and his parents to celebrate his dad's 65th and we had a wonderful meal and genuinely fun time in the pub room.
Valerie was on point with service and was embracing the goofiness of my group.
It was a special night and our favorite meal in Southern Pines.
My husband and I had a great evening. He had a hamburger which he said was terrific, I had ahi tuna which was cooked perfectly. Our waitress was very attentive and friendly. The restaurant is very cozy and has conventional table seating as well as small couches and chairs for dinner seating as well. A bit unusual but it works.
Some food was really good. Some was ok. My duck was a little dry and over cooked. I asked for my rice to be in a separate dish as my wife is allergic to nuts. It came on the same plate as my duck. My and I couldn't share as there were peanuts on my plate. We ordered a burger to be cooked medium and it was well done.
Server was excellent but he had a whole room to serve so service was slow. He also seemed to spend more time at 1 table than rhe rest.
Drinks were awesome but a little slow getting to our table.
Very nice and cozy dining atmosphere, solid wine list and a very good menu selection and food. Went here for a dinner date, service was good but the background noise was a little distracting at times, my hearing is also not the best either. Overall, Ashten's is very good and it is one of my favorites places to dine and relax in Southern Pines.
We began with the meat and cheese platter. We ordered the small platter which was PLENTY for two people. I had the dinner salad entree with an added crab cake. The salad greens were local fresh, and delicious, but the crab cake was almost "hushpuppy-like." If I had a chance to order again, I would choose the chicken or salmon. My dinner date ordered the duck and fried rice and was very pleased.
My somewhat low rating reflects how cramped and crowded the tables are. It was difficult to maneuver around the restaurant and the close proximity of tables made dinner conversation less than discreet.
Ashten's is okay for a casual dinner, but is priced more expensively than one would expect to pay for such. For the prices, I would prefer more creative menu offerings and more comfortable seating/table arrangements.
