Read amazing reviews about the restaurant &its new cuisine.....service was ok....our waiter was very pleasant, however I believe he was working a large area by himself. Overall food was good and seemed to have been cooked with fresh ingredients. My husband didn't like it at all.Ambiance/decor is modern...on the hi side.Maybe younger crowds would appreciate it much more.
P.S. fish tacos made with Tilapia.....are a 👎👎

This was our third trip to Acenar and once again it met or exceeded our expectations. The food has always been excellent and the service is consistently top-notch. It's a great place to enjoy the ambience of the Riverwalk while enjoying great food.

Lively, fun restaurant on the River Walk. We were out of towners, found it on internet. Great choice. Classed as TexMex, it's really well done Southwest- Mexican cuisine . Food is upscale, prices are not. Service is relaxed and efficient. Outside seating recommended . While right on The RiverWalk, it is on a less busy section and less claustrophobic than I found many RiverWalk restaurants . Highly recommended .

The staff was very friendly and we appreciated their honoring our request for a table by the river. We enjoyed the food. The bar experience was chaotic and he service very slow. We order fromthe bar and had to go up to remind them of the order.

made a reservation on open table but was then told there is an hour wait for an outside table. then they ran out of avocados at 5:30pm on a saturday evening. food was mediocre. drinks were watered down. service was very slow but friendly.

Great service at the bar. Food was excellent - fresh and just the right size portion. Tres leches cake was wonderful. Tableside guacamole was really impressive. Only downside was server who corrected my (apparently bad) Spanish and had no real answer when I asked her to suggest a red wine.

Table and chairs were dirty when we were seated, table had been cleared from last occupants but not wiped down. Hostess seemed put out that we wanted it cleaned before we sat down. Staff were generally more interested in chatting with each other at entrance than service, so we waited long periods at each step of the meal. Food was okay, but nothing memorable. More like something you'd get in a suburban chain than a supposedly nicer place on the river walk. Drinks were very good, but we sat with empties for 10-15 minutes before wait staff asked if we'd like another. Overall disappointing and we wouldn't recommend.

Our experience was for appetizers and a cocktail after a conference. It was outstanding.
The Oysters and Jicama Shrimp Tacos were incredible. We were still talking about the entire experience over breakfast the next day.
Hands-down the freshest and most delicious Margarita I have ever had on the RiverWalk.
Thank you Acenar for a wonderful experience. I will be back, with friends, next time I am in town.

After considering several TexMex options, the menu and overall vibe of Acenar was the most appealing. Dining on the balcony patio overlooking the Riverwalk was peaceful, yet lively. The food was tasty and unique. The service was friendly, quick, and accurate. The best overall dining experience we had during our weekend in San Antonio.

We enjoyed the time . Close to the majestic theater, great place to dine inn before the show.
Got the on line option to order flowers for special occasions.
They were able to hold my wife bouquet of flowers while we went to the show. Came back and got them later. We had a great time.

First, when I mentioned to the host about reservation through Open Table, I was ignored and it was entered as not honoring my reservation. I followed up with the waiter. Nothing. Service was ok. They were busy. We sat outdoors which was very nice. Food was served warm. Margaritas were really good. Not sure I would return.

The restaurant had a great ambiance and the food was very good. The maragaritas are amazing. The service we received was just ok. Our server answered our questions and provided recommendations when asked, but he made me feel like we were an inconvenience. When he brought the cart to make our table-side guacamole, he announced, "Let's get this over with." It was delicious, nonetheless.

Food was good, ambiance is nice, but the service was not good. Also the floor was so slippery that a guest of ours fell and broke the wine bottle she had. Fortunately they did replace the wine bottle, but floors should not be so slippery especially when people are dressed nice and in heels.

After reading reviews of Acenar, my expectations were high. Acenar was a typical riverwalk Mexican restaurant......tasteless, overpriced food. The oyster tacos were recommended by the server as one of the best 5 tacos I will ever eat. I love fried oysters, so I ordered them. I disagree with the server. They were supposed to come with diced, grilled pineapple, but I think they may have forgotten to put them on the tacos because I didn't see or taste them. They were very bland tacos with no real flavor at all. My entire party was appreciative of the meal, but no one was impressed. You have much better Mexican options if you leave the riverwalk.

Made Open Table reservation early evening before a play. Confirmed that day and arrived on time Tables were open but were told they were reserved. Hostess did not acknowledge our reservation. Offered a noisy table where everyone had to pass by. Declined and was given a table upstairs by two large groups. I will admit her attitude diminished my enjoyment of the dinner. Wait service was very good. Drinks were expensive for what you got but fine. Guacamole and salsa and chips were excellent. Ordered carnitas and a combo dinner. Food was fine but $18 entrees in a Mexican restaurant should be very good. There are many Riverwalk Restaurants that serve decent Mexican food at lesser prices. However, the fact that they took reservations made us choose Acenar as opposed to Boudros or something like Mexican Manhattan because we had to make a show. I think next time we would just get Coronas, guacamole, and a couple other appetizers in the bar which looked lively and fun. Acenar does seem to welcome large, celebrating, family groups which is nice. The setting is attractive on the Riverwalk.

The service was attentive and complete; kudos to the waiter that night. The food, albeit a shared meal, was good. The noise level was high but not as severe in the high ceiling area versus the back, low ceiling seating area. Outside is nice if you can get it; host seems reluctant to seat out there.

Food came out way too fast and tasted like standard not great chain restaurant fare. The appetizer (queso) was horrible. We went with the melted one as we love it when done right (see, Oyamel in DC). This was greasy and barely warm. Total waste of a nice evening on the river walk.

It was busy but not that busy . We had to wait on drinks for 10 minutes and when they brought out queso flamaedo they forgot tortillas and we had to wait 5 minutes for those, so the cheese got cold. Overall the food was very good but staff needs to be more attentive in these situations

Server spilled my husband's meal on him, apologized but that was it. No manager, no comp, no discount. When we complained they finally removed his meal but then complained about having to get change. Every part of the service was incompetent. Not only that, the food wasn't that great. Both the server and the manager should find new occupations because the restaurant business isn't for them.

Took business colleagues to Acenar for dinner after a long day at a trade show. Got a table on the river and truly enjoyed the view. Service was excellent and everyone enjoyed the food and drinks. Not your typical Tex-Mex fare, slightly upscale, but everyone can find something on the menu that that tastes great and satisfies! Very nice evening!
