"We took a team member out to dinner. The oysters were very good. The portions were just right. The menu is 90% seafood so be prepared for that. The noise level was not a problem even though the place was full and many groups of 6+."

"My husband and I went to Rappahannock for our anniversary. It seems that every time I take him to a restaurant that I think is great, he has a bad experience. Not this time! By the end of our meal, I thought he was going to lick the plate! He proclaimed it a "Wow Meal!""

"Great food and service. Servers are very knowledgeable, attentive, but not overbearing. For Saturday night dinner, it is way to noisy. Don't mind vibrant and energetic places, but concrete floor and no soundproofing makes for having to repeat everything twice and to scream at our table. Otherwise the food was fantastic. I will be back to try more on the menu."

"The Rappahannock oysters were very small and butchered ...they were in pices. The soft shells were ...well fair at best.

On the brighter side, their white wines pared very well with raw oysters. I've been eating Rappahannock oysters and soft shell crabs fresh from the Bay and creeks for decades. These were just not up to par.

I wish I could do a better review."

"Don't go with kids- they have NOTHING kid friendly.

Don't go with a big group- its hard to hear conversation.

Portion sizes are smaller, so order a salad.

EXCELLENT food, though! You will not be disappointed!"

"We went for Mother's Day, and every dish was a delightful surprise. Their wine list was very reasonable, and the food was much more affordable than the menu reflected.

Strongly recommend the salmon trout with beats, quail egg and caviar."

"This was my first time here, but I was a little surprised that there was room for Mother's day dinner. Their staff was very friendly and accommodating for our toddler. The atmosphere was a little loud, but I thought it was good since we had a toddler. I've never had Rappahannock oysters before, which seemed a little small, but they were excellent tasting, especially with trout eggs in it. My wife had grilled shrimp in mole sauce and I had their salad with grilled shrimp. It was nice seeing fresh shrimp with their head and tails on them, because the shrimp seemed juicier and loaded with flavor. It would have been an even better if they had complimentary bread, but overall it was still a good experience. I would go here again!"

"Even though we made reservations, when we got there our table was not ready, we waited fifteen minutes at the bar and then they offered a table with stools next to the bar. Between the two, staying at the bar was a better choice. This made the dining experience very dissapointing. On the upside the food was fantastic. If we go back we will make sure to emphasis on the seating arrangements."

"Oysters were tasty.. abit pricey... but tasty. I asked for a Vodka and 7up... was told they had Sprite - fine... Waitress then said they had not sprite... but the bartender would "fix" a drink - sure to please - I was served a Gin & tonic sour fizz? Vodka to Gin .... what was he thinking? Then he fixed me SeaBreeze... -- probably worse I ever had...

Food was delicious -- wine prices - very high.... drinks ... must be want to be unique... ??? not very good in my humble opinion."

"The oysters are very tasty! They only have shaved horseradish, not prepared. They are super fresh and worth the price. The entres however are pricey for what you get. I would only reccomend going if you are in the mood for fish, scallops, or shrimp. No red meat option. I also a bit disappointed in the wine selection. Great place for a yummy beer and raw oysters. I think it's a bit overrated beyond that."

"Look and feel is very beachy. Nice array of seafood and some options for those who aren't big on fish or shellfish. Good wine choices to include Prosecco. Terrific to find a place that serves lunch up to 3:00 during the week. Had a great tuna melt with fresh tuna and salad side ... really yummy!"

"We went for dinner during the middle of the week, and the place was packed. That's a good recommendation for any restaurant, but they didn't seem able to handle the volume very well. We waited too long for our drinks, appetizers and entrees. The food was very good, but the service was too slow. Also, there's nothing to absorb sound. The seats, tables, walls, etc. are all hard surfaces, so it was difficult to carry on a conversation without shouting."

"everyone seems to complain about the noise, but we went between brunch and dinner on a sunday and it was great. by the time we were leaving, it was getting crowded and noisy. all the food was great. good instruction on the oysters. the shrimp and the crab cake were hits. the lamb and clams dish was good, if a bit salty."

"This was my first time at Rappahannock, and it definitely warrants many repeat trips! The food was all outstanding, the wine (a French sauvignon blanc) was excellent, and the baked oysters were divine. I can't eat raw oysters, and I've never found any "cooked" versions so delicious. "Excellent evening out! Highly recommend a signature cocktail to start - the mixologist on staff was great and the concoctions creative and delicious. The raw bar and dinner menu was a terrific read - hard to narrow down what to order - and our waitress was well informed in answering our questions. And, of course, the entrees were visually pleasing and awesome. Scallops right off the boat and to the restaurant - outstanding! We shall return for lunch or another evening out...perhaps at the bar (shoulder to shoulder oyster slurping, AND no TVs)."

"Our Sunday dinner was delicious! We tried several dishes, starting with raw oysters, oyster stew, asparagus salad, steamed clams, & the field greens salad. We then moved to our entrees, crab cakes, lamb burger, and rockfish, which were amazing. We finished off with the apple cobbler and homemade ice cream & the panna cotta. Each dish was prepared splendidly and the tastes were varied and unique. I highly recommend Rappahannock!"

"I have been looking for a great raw bar for so time. My daughter and I went the for Sunday Brunch. The oysters were awesome! I had invested in a Virginia co-op program called "Oysters for Life"the week before where they will deliver 2 dozen oysters to my home for the next 10 years, and I found that they supply this restaurant as well. Wow! I struck the same oyster vein!"

"I had a great experience at Rappahannock! My entree was one of the best I have had in RIchmond in quite sometime. The oysters were very tasty but a little on the pricey side. "When all ages come through the door you know it's a happening place!
Our first (of many, we expect)visit to Rappahannock was not without the rave reviews we had heard and read. Best ever salad, one of our party of four said about the asparagus salad. Two others raved about their oyster selections, and the grilled shrimp. Portions are so well planned that we even had room for dessert. One word of advice from a husband who was still a little hungry at the end: Be sure to order an appetizer or salad (which the rest of us did) because his entree of baked oysters did not go quite far enough for his appetite! We'll be back so he can get it right!"

"I haven't had a chance to visit Merroir, so was excited to try Rappahannock. Pretty much lived up to everything I've heard - though I was surprised at how much of the place the bar takes up. That said - it works. The place maintained a fun vibe all night. We sat at the bar until our table was ready - great bar staff served up some creative cocktails.

After we were seated our waiter was very attentive and knowledgeable about the menu. We had all four types of oysters they were serving, a "salmon" trout app, asparagus salad and pan fried tile fish. All were excellently prepared and delicious - I'd recommend any of them."

"Enjoyed Rappahannock. Server was a delight, the kitchen was painfully slow. It took a full two hours to have dinner, without dessert, and the restaurant wasn't full. Most of the food was quite good, though the wood grilled fish was overcooked in the extreme. Would have sent it back, if we were not trying to make a show nearby. Wine selection was interesting and very good, though very little was moderately priced.

Overall, it was good, but I much prefer their Topping, VA location. Hoping they will get the kinks worked out. The experience has certainly led me to question gushing newspaper reviewers!"

"Food was wonderful. Service was outstanding. Waiter was attentive and helpful But the noise level in this restaurant was just too loud for me and my friend. We had a reservation for 6:15 on a Wednesday. The place was pretty packed. I don't know why the rating category provided is "energetic." I would say disturbingly noisy. We enjoy good food and conversation. This restaurant definitely provides the first, but does not permit the second. If you don't mind having to yell to your dining companions, then definitely try this restaurant."

"I recommend this restaurant with hesitation. This was our first visit. As we entered the restaurant, the first thing I noticed was the smoke from the grill. Throughout dinner the smoke was heavy, my eyes started burning and my throat felt sketchy. The service was good but slow. The food was very good. I had a crab cake that was excellent in size, flavor and no filler served on a bed of slaw."

"The oysters were fresh and good although we ordered 16 and only 15 arrived. The tuna crudo was excellent except that $18 for a small plate seems a bit high (and we eat a lot of sushi, so I am well aware of the prices for Toro). The cobbler desert was dry and uninteresting (some raisins, a little cinnamon and more moisture would have helped). But the BIG BIG problem was the noise level. We went at 6 pm on a Friday, hoping to beat the crowd. By 7:15, the noise was so intense that we pretty much gave up on conversation. It spoiled a pleasant evening and was so bad that we probably won't go back except maybe for lunch. The service was good at the beginning, but once we ordered our drinks, the server basically disappeared."

"Great choice for trying river oysters. Halibut on special was amazing! You will smell like you were fireside after leaving since they use a wood burning for cooking, but well worth it for the authentic and great food!"

"This was my second time at Rappahannock's. Both were enjoyable. We enjoyed a dozen oysters on the half shell - nicely displayed and well explained. I had the panned fish of the day, which was halibut, and my son had the scallop entre'. We both had the pale ale. Great time!Thanks."
