"Expected a lot more from this highly rated restaurant. the ventilation in the restaurant was so poor I felt like I was eating inside the kitchen with all the smoke and fumes!
Was hot and loud and the food very heavy and not at all commensurate with the pricing. For what we spent and an additional $50.00 I could have eaten at really good 5 star like Marea.

"This is one of the first places we plan to have dinner when visiting NYC. The menu choices are interesting and well executed. Not overly fussy, but unique and of the best quality. While usually packed, the ambience has a calm modern elegance and we always feel like it is a special occasion when dining here. We have never been disappointed and trust the staff recommendations."

"We were recommended this restaurant by our hotel when visited New York last year and enjoyed it so much that we wanted to return this time and were not disappointed . The service was excellent even. If the waiters New York Italian left understanding the specials a bit difficult but overall we had a great meal. The wine list was good and the waiter was helpful in choosing an appropriate wine given our liking for very dry whites within our budget."

"The vibes were awesome when we arrived at 8.45pm for our reservations. The menu looks excellent with a great wine list! Usually the wine list is good but it's concentrated at the high end with more than $120 bottles, but this place has a good mix and selection. The food and service was great except for one slight problem. We ordered the meat ball starters which was delicious. A definitely must try. They were very gracious and split it up for us include the other starters which was the octopus. Pretty good too! We ordered the pappardelle and linguine which they split for us too. The pappardelle was amazingly good. The linguine was undercooked by about a minute which was surprisingly given the reputation of this restaurant."

"The food was fantastic; selection very extensive. The waiter and managerial staff were great(however, waiter went through the specials very quickly). All dishes for each of us were served at the same time. As we experienced the last time we were there, the tables are a little cramped and there were several times when my chair was hit (even though they apologized, it still happened; I guess a minor inconvenience with a small, narrow brownstone). Even though we were sitting about 6 tables from the door, once the door was opened, we felt it."

"So glad we stumbled across this fantastic find! It's far enough off the beaten path to give it a very intimate feel. A nice respite from the craziness of nearby Times Square. We came here after Top of the Rock and it completed our evening. The service was on-point and the food was exactly what you'd expect from an Italian restaurant in New York - delicious! "For the past 5 years I have been visiting New York and eating in Gatopardo is a must! Since you arrive you feel like visiting your best friend house. Service starts from taking your coats until leaving. Without being intrusive waiters are always aware of what's happening in your table. "It's a very cozy and comfortable place to dine!!! The Arancini they give out upon arrival were a nice touch as well as tasty. The appetizer part of the menu was awesome and hard to choose from. The risotto was perfectly cooked which is hard to do. My fish of the day was delicate and flavorful. My husband had the veal and was not terribly impressed just average. The wine prices were fare for a midtown restaurant. I had cheese to finish our wine and my husband had some chocolate concoction that looked and tasted awesome. All in all we would go back!!!!!"

"This was our first experience at Il Gattopardo, and it will most assuredly NOT be our last. I have nothing even mildly negative to say about the restaurant.
We loved the décor and ambiance immediately. The service was attentive but not overbearing. The food was absolutely delicious. My branzino was superb, and I did not get an argument when I insisted on deboning it myself.
The wine list actually contained reasonably-priced, very good wines, unlike so many other Manhattan restaurants.
Can't wait to return."

"Small, quiet, low key atmosphere, and the food is very good and the service is excellent.
A bit pricey given the limited investment in the build-out of the space. Normally at these prices you would expect some special ambiance.
But if price is not that important and you are looking for good food with very good service, you will like this place."

"Superb (and knowledgeable, appropriate) service and tasty wine and atmosphere (white tablecloth but a bit laid back), but the star is the food.....absolutely awesome.
From the complimentary (pre) appetizers, to the fresh baked bread and aromatic and flavorful olive oil to the tasty homemade pasta (we had the lasagna with the best ricotta ever! and the seafood ragout) to the chocolate soufflé and cappuccino, we had a marvelous meal.
The price for our meal was most reasonable (under 100 apiece), considering this was Nyc at its finest."

"I expected a great meal but received a disappointing experience. We arrived at 5:30 because of going to a show. There was only a handful of people but it took 20 minutes to receive our appetizers. The waiter wasn't bad but was very stiff. The food was fair to say the least and the presentation was plain, nothing to say wow about. When we left nobody said thank you or even acknowledged us. I don't mind paying a high price for a memorable meal but this was not that at all."

"A very enjoyable experience and our first time. We were welcomed with a wonderful staff. We each had appetizer and entree pre-theater. Some of the selections were off the scale good and others just okay. The service was excellent in a beautiful dining room. The bread was very good. I would definitely return when going to theater but, order the more simplified menu selections ... some of the items had too much going on."
