From the moment you enter, tones of old world yellows, stone fireplaces, wrought iron cellar gates and sconces, soft candlelight, coves with upholstered sofa seating and friendly staff, it's an undeniable inviting space, nothing short of extraordinary. Two special occasion tables with antique throne chairs and live piano music add to the intimacy. Two romantic dining rooms cater to an elegant crowd, while the long narrow bar gathers a friendly and fun bunch nightly.
The cuisine truly upholds the name of Fine Portuguese/Spanish Dining, seafood and fish, organic meats, the freshest ingredients and to maintain the tradition, huge portions are to be expected. The menu is seasonal and in addition to a varied selection of delectable dishes to satisfy any palette, daily specials are always featured. The wine list with over 180 selections is an ambitious one that keeps growing, but sure not to disappoint the discriminating connoisseur.
"We had a reservation for 6pm, and then had a delay and had to shift to 6:30 - no problem. Then we arrived and (worriedly) told the staff that we had to be out of the restaurant by 7:45 - a scant 1:15 for a nice dinner - no problem. The wait staff ensured that the pace of dinner was such that we were easily able to leave on time and that we weren't rushed. I had the steak and alaskan king crab legs, my friends had the prime rib and the garlic chicken. The steak was cooked perfectly for me (a bit more rare than normal medium rare, but I like it that way), I particularly liked the roasted potatoes and the broccoli. For me the only weak area was the alaskan king crab legs - just ok. I regret not trying the flaming chorizo."

"Best service we have had anywhere in years. The chorizo they flame at your tableside is incredible. Huge portion of Paella and the suckling pig and veal chops were great. Ambience is superb as you feel like in a wine cave. Will go back soon"

"I casually mentioned wanting to try more Portuguese food in the area & was advised by a co-worker to try the Ferry Street area in Newark. As I had an event Friday night at NJPAC, I chose to make reservations for that night before the show. I selected Adega Grill as there were a number of good reviews online, but they didn't come near my experience. The staff was gracious & attentive and very helpful when choosing entrees & wine. I had a monkfish stew that was absolutely delicious! The crab stuffed mushrooms were also a treat. I finished with flan & a 20 yr tawny port. I've travelled to Portugal before (and just love it), so I wanted an authentic experience -- and I was not disappointed. There's also free parking right around the corner."

"There were 4 of us there on a Tuesday night. From 6:30 until 9:30, I saw 8 people eat in the restaurant (and that's including the 4 of us). The place was, obviously, very quiet. The bar, however, was a completely different story and was full the entire time.
Everything was great. The chourico flambe'd at the table, shrimp in garlic, salad, skirt steaks, fish dish, flan, tres leches, beer/cocktails - all tasted great. Service was really good, kind of figured it would be with the entire wait staff all to ourselves.
Would definitely recommend - actually can't imagine there being another Portuguese restaurant in the area that could provide more."

"Adega is old-world classy in the heart of Newark. LOL Love their table-side presentations and their food is wonderful and authentic. Portions are huge, and their paella is truly authentic!"

"Despite the numerous wait staff and attention to the water glass refills, our service was not good. One person ordered soup and salad so she got the soup immediately then 15 minutes later two of us got our entrees but one person did not get her mushroom appetizer until 10 minutes after we were served which was awkward."

"My family and I went here after an epic NY Red Bull (MLS soccer)game. Beautiful restaurant and wonderful staff. We arrived hungry and shared the garlic shrimp, calamari and chorizo - all excellent! Most of us ordered seafood entrees - sea bass, red snapper, shrimp - all superbly cooked. One of us ordered the special valencia paella (all with all sorts of mixed meats and seafood, including lobster!) - he could barely put a dent in it. All our food was quite excellent and delicious, but our portions were so sizable that we all took home half our meals. Highly recommend, but suggest you split some of the entrees family-style! Great time!"

"Excellent restaurant, Steaks and Paella were very good. Service was extremely attentive and the ambiance was almost perfect. A little loud for my taste, but it was a busy Saturday night. Prices are not outrageous.. Highly recommend the Sangria.. the whole table loved it."

"The salads and appetizers were excellent, and the staff very nice. You must try the red Sangria - yum! I was happy to see they were very busy & turning tables over. We were there for over two hours, and the host very nicely asked if we would want to have a drink in the attached lounge, so they could let people waiting dine. We had another drink in the lounge which had plenty of seating and were able to stay there as long as we liked."

"Overall, we enjoyed it. I had the calamari, which was only ok. Not much going on. Then, I had the veal, ham and sausage special. That was excellent and a huge portion. Took some home. My wife had a salad special for dinner which she said was very good. Wait staff was very attentive."
