"Needed a new place to go before the theatre and St. Charles Exchange was perfect. Having been ther a few times prior I expected it to be very good and they didn't disappoint. Food and service were great and add to that prohibition cocktails and it makes for a great time."

"it as derby week so could expect some issues. They had a fixed priced menu which is fine, but it had really bad choices. The baked brie was - well not really baked. Kind of a pastry on the outside, but still hard as a rock inside. Lamb chops were the fattiest that i ever had. The deserts were fine and they had a good wine list. But for a $400.00 plus meal for two, I expected more."

"Was looking forward to going to this restaurant, but we prefer a place with a lot less noise. Thought going at 6 would accomplish this, but that was not the case. We sat in one of the booths, but we were still close to the bar. Didn't help that the couple next to us both were on their cell phones for most of their meal. On the other hand, the food was wonderful, and the location couldn't have been better - we were going to the Louisville Orechstra concert at the Whitney."

"Just a fantastic restaurant, plain and simple. Menu is very eclectic, yet simple. The bar scene is amazing as are the cocktails. For bourbon drinkers, it has one of the best old fashioneds in Louisville."

"VERY disappointing first-time visit to this downtown restaurant! Even though there were only two other filled tables at noon on this Monday visit, we were seated at a very wobbly table, for a start. Once relocated we ordered one of each of the appetizers on the menu, with a soup-of-the-day starter. The soup was tasty but was served only lukewarm and would have been much better HOT! Things went downhill from that point on. The deviled eggs appetizer had some enjoyable yoke fillings but all of the whites were tough and chewy. The root-beer-glazed wings were over-cooked and uninspiring, bacon-wrapped peanut butter dates the same. The fried oyster dish was best of the lot so we ordered a second helping. There will be no second visit!"

"I had the pancakes and chicken which were recently reviewed in Southern Living. While it was certainly healthy, I was not “wowed” by the dish. I’ve had the fried chicken and waffles at another local restaurant that was far more memorable. The service was adequate and the ambiance was enjoyable. It felt like a nice New York City restaurant without the huge crowd. While we enjoyed the restaurant and I’m glad we went, we probably won’t be going back."

"Had reservation before show at Yum. Plan was to share a bottle of wine and some appetizers. Deviled eggs were artful, and beautifully presented, relatively bland tasting. Elvis on Horseback was novel, and amazingly flavorful. We split a scallop entrée and when it arrived, on a very large platter, there were 3 tiny scallops with 1 piece of bacon sticking out of one of them. The scallops were slightly larger that a quarter, not much to them at all. They were tasty, but for $30.00 it was ridiculous. It was a pretentious display. I do not mind paying for an upscale dining experience, but I do not like feeling blatantly ripped off. Service was very good. Too many excellent dining choices in Louisville to return here."

"Great atmosphere. The service was very good. The menu doesn't really fit the atmosphere, but the appetizers, entrees, and desserts were good. All in our party felt the prices were a little too high. Will probably go back."

"We arrived late, about 10 p.m. on a Saturday night; restaurant was far from full; bar was half full watching NCAA basketball games; party of 7. drinks took too long to arrive, but overall experience was very good; ordered mostly appetizers; wings awesome and deviled eggs a big hit ..."

"The most beautiful restaurant in town!!! Our entrees were surf/turf (strip and scallops) and salmon. Both were excellent. The She-Crab bisque was good but not served warm; I sent it back and what returned was only slightly better. I had dined there for lunch two days earlier and enjoyed it equally. Make sure to try the deviled egg sampler plate!"

"It was our first time in the restaurant and we were most pleased with the experience, especially with the service and the food. The overall atmosphere was a bit noisier than we would have preferred but we will keep that in mind the next time we consider dining there again. The very warm and engaging approach of the waiter impressed us very much."

"loved this restaurant. took my girlfriend for her birthday, she remarked at how the room was very grand with the large curtains and bar mirror. lamb shank was perfect, the lioness is a next-level drink for any bar to be jealous of. never thought i'd say it, but the plate of deviled eggs was my favorite. who knew that could even happen?"

"St Charles Exchange is earning well deserved rave reviews in a city loaded with great locally owned and operated restaurant choices. A local staff using manly local products producing wonderful food, as well as totally handcrafted drinks and beers coupled with a service staff that is off the charts make for not only a wonderful dining experience, but allow for an evening of casual sophistication, in a historic building that has been restored to it's pristine state. From top to bottom the St. Charles Exchange is on top of their game and a not to be missed dining experience."

"We enjoyed the historic setting, and our waiter was very attentive and talkative. The oyster appetizer was disappointing - flavorless oysters. Other entrees, lamb burger and salmon were good, french fries were quite tasty. The restaurant manager made a visit to our table; was genuine and sincere in his inquiry as to how our dining experience had been. This was a nice touch!"

"St Chuck Lamb burger was great, but the service was very slow. It took 20 minutes to get our drinks, and almost an hour for our food. The water boy/ busser was more attentive than our waitress. Everyone's meal was great when it finally came out!"

"I've had a couple of meals here, one on a Saturday evening when we did not have a reservation and the staff did a great job of working us in, and the other at lunchtime. My Saturday night dinner was unplanned with a couple from out of town that my husband and I ran into at the U of L basketball game; my husband and I ate lite, our friends had full meals. One friend said his meal was okay while his wife's meal was excellent. The nightlife scene here can be kind of noisy--it's a gathering place so you have to expect that when you come in the evening. The lunch scene was quieter and the perfect spot to meet an old friend. Our food was excellent. I know that the bar prides itself on carrying only "craft" products but no vodka? Add vodka!"

"Took my wife here on Valentine's Day when there was a special 4 course menu, so I can't comment on the "normal" menu. I can, however, tell you that our meal was fantastic with just a few minor quibbles. There were two choices for each of the four courses so we decided to get one of each (except dessert) and it was a great choice. We were able to sample each dish and discuss them which was not only tasty, but fun. My only real criticism of the food was in the second course with included a pear & blue salad which included candied walnuts, apple butter dressing and balsamic. It was really sweet and if we had more of the balsamic it would have been perfect. Entree dishes were terrific and we will likely go back to try out the regular menu."

"Simply wow! What a great find in Louisville. In a city dominated by cookie cutter efforts (with many exceptional examples) at the American steakhouse, I was pleasantly surprised to find such a diverse and elegant menu. It moved to my top 5 in Louisville!"

"The prix fixe menu for Valentine's was good until the dessert course. The timing had been going smoothly until that point and then we sat and waited a good 15 minutes with cocktails and wine long finished to get dry, hard brownies with whipped cream. I was totally fine with paying the prix fixe price, but I was annoyed that an automatic gratuity of 20% was also automatically added for a party of 2. Not that our service was really bad, but I felt completely taken advantage of. Good meal that ended on a somewhat sour note."

"Great bourbon selection! The food was amazing and the portions were large. The Elvis on Horseback was one of the best and most interesting dishes I've ever had. The only drawback was that the service was very slow. The waiter was nice enough, but it took him a while to take our order and he didn't come back to refill water glasses often enough."

"Went at 6 pm on a Friday with an good friend in from out-of-town, and we wanted to catch up. Besides the wonderful food, and a fabulous Old-Fashioned, the service was perfect. We were not rushed or pestered, and felt perfectly comfortable taking our time with our visit. Our server was attentive, checked in at good intervals and came promptly when we needed her, but we weren't made to feel rushed. New Winter menu was diverse, and we enjoyed all our dishes."
