A Royal Oak mainstay since 2004, Bastone Brewery takes both its name and culinary style from the famous Belgian city. The 1930s era establishment sets the stage for a restaurant and brewery where award-winning Belgian beer is crafted onsite for the finest flavor and character. The menu features an array of classic burgers, Belgian mussels and frites, artisan pizzas and European-inspired entrees.
"The food was great. At our table we had the mac & cheese w/ lobster, Waterzooi & hanger steak. Only crumbs & fond memories were left at the end of the meal. The staff was there when needed, very pleasant, I have no complaints at all. The beer is great as well. Not my first trip to Bastone, and certainly will not be my last. Thank you for another terrific meal!"

"It was our first time at Bastone Brewery and we will definitely return. Great casual atmosphere, with stepped up food favorites and an interesting beer selection. Our server was attentive but not overly so, informative, and friendly."

"Our experience was not a positive one. They could not find our reservation when we got there even though I showed it to them on my phone. After being seated we had to chase down a waitress to order drinks. Beer and Martines were very good. The so called signature muscles were tasteless. We ordered all four styles and they were all tasteless. We will not go back."

"It was my sister's birthday and we ha a big group. No issues getting a reservation! My oldest sister brought a homemade cake in, and I was worries they wouldn't let us have it. They brought a knife and plates! We had an amazing time!!!"

"I mentioned to the waiter that I was vegan and he said "that's okay" as if it were an unfortunate malady. He was not helpful in suggesting options. I asked if they had vegetables and he struggled to describe some mixed vegetables. I said that I would have that and added a small salad to start. For dinner, he brought me a 3 inch plate of vegetables. Although there are more and more of us each year, restaurants like this make a conscious choice to marginalize those who choose to eat according to our ethics. One single entree of mixed vegetables along with a grain both sends a positive message and allows large diverse parties to eat at your restaurant. There's money to be made, where's your business savvy?"

"Have dined at Bastone Brewery previously, but this was the first time in about 2 years. Things are as a remember them...pleasant and helpful service, lively atmosphere and good beer. Unfortunately, I was disappointed in the food quality this time around compared to previous visits. The variety and presentation were still good, but the preparation and taste of the walleye and waterzooi did not meet my expectations when compared to prior meals there. I'm hopeful that this was just an off-night for the kitchen as BB typically does a great job with their specialties. We'll give them the benefit of the doubt and try again in a few weeks when we vist R.O. again."

"Great Belgium inspired food, with outstanding biers to complement your order. Best dining experience we have had in a long while. The Brewery Steak Sandwich and the Grilled Onglet along with the Witface Bier were exceptional. Definitely will come back, and would recommend to others."

"Delicious food, great locally brewed beer selection, attractive atmospher. Small menu offeres a nice selection without being overwhelming, the decor is upscale and trendy without being pretentious and the wait staff is helpful and knowledgable, although our server seemed like he may have been new. Only complaint is his hovering and that he seemed unsure and awkward at times. Also, tried to convince my husband that the mushrooms in the salmon dish were potatoes. It didn't say anything about mushrooms on the menu and we even asked about the dish while ordering to find out what was in it. Having reseved a table, I would have like to be sat further from the door and bar - felt like an after thought, or inconvience having reserved the table."

"This restaurant has great ambiance! Low key and laid back with a fun and earthy feel. We went for my 30th birthday and had amazing food, the best calamari I have ever had (and I get calamari everywhere I go) delicious entrees, fantastic deserts, very friendly waitress, courteous bussers. It was a really busy Friday night and I'm thankful for our reservation because it was a 1.5 wait!"

"I ordered a steak and basically came just plopped on a pile of fries. It was completely different than what I thought I ordered. While it tasted ok it was a very plain 5 ou filet literally plopped on a huge pile of fries. When you pay 23 dollars for a filet you expect it to be better. I never mind paying for a good steak but I will never order a steak there again. I asked about a bday cake and never received anything back. No email or call so we had no birthday cake or the guest of honor and she. Was not offered a. Free dessert for her bday. I will not return."

"My husband and I went there for our anniversary - we first met at the restaurant almost 9 years ago. We made reservations for 8:00 and came in a bit early at about 7:45. We asked the hostess if we could be seated early and she said there were a few tables getting ready to go and it shouldn't be a problem. We were given a pager and sat at the bar. We waited over an half an hour despite my husband checking-apparently they had us on a different list (not a reservation). If my husband hadn't checked and made the hosting staff aware of the situation, we may have been waiting a lot longer. Very disappointing. Our waiter was really nice and attentive, food was good with the exception of the hanger steak that was very fatty."

"We enjoyed our dinner very much at Bastones. We have been to Bastone on many occasions, and it is nice to see that the menu hasn't changed significantly, and that the quality has stayed the same or gotten better.
We always enjoy the soft pretzel appetizer, and in fact, ordered a second round because they were so good. Our salads that followed were also delicious. They were the right amount of dressing, blue cheese, and other ingredients. Lastly, my Mother's fish and chips, and especially the Salmon special that my wife and I had were delicious. We usually find the specials worth ordering.
Last but not least, our server Marvin was excellent. We have had him wait on us before, and we enjoy both his professionalism and humor."

"Although the food was very good, the staff wasn't very cooperative. We were a party of 13 and had two tables reserved. They cannot sit more than 10 people in one table so we were requesting that the reserved tables were closer to each other. They reserved two tables for us in opposite sides of the restaurant. They were refusing to give us a different table (even though they were plenty available) so we had to sit in opposite sides of the restaurant for a while which was very inconvenient. They finally gave us a booth that was closer to the other reserved table, but that still didn't change the fact that we were all frustrated with some of their staff. If you are planning on having a big party I wouldn't recommend it."

"The service was very good however a glass of Riesling that I ordered was severely oxidized, my mussels were not carefully cleaned (very gritty), and a steak that we ordered was severely over cooked. The server made it right but the tempo of the experience was disturbed. I would need to have a better next experience at Bastone's before recommending to others."

"Bastone has quickly become one of my favorite places. The recipes seem to be taken right from my Belgian-born mother's cookbook. Important to leave room for the "two-bite" desserts, especially the profiteroles...aka creampuffs. They are big enough to share."

"our waiter was friendly, nice, but hard to hear him. The food was a little bit of letdown, as the olive platter was very sparce, too small of olives, crackery bread -not as nice as we expected. Beers were fine, service was fine, but just not excited about our food. also was all excited about the pasta/ beer combo and then found out it was only for the weekdays, not Saturdays, but we wondered why that menu was on the table. it was a nice atmosphere, a happening place, especially as it got later in the evening."
