21 east opened in June 2012 with the goal of being Greenville’s favorite new venue to drink, eat, and play. We strive to create unique and exciting drinks and dishes, in an atmosphere that keeps people coming back for more. Our chef, John Acker, is constantly working to ensure that our menu stays fresh and interesting. A primary initiative here at 21 east is also to promote “local” to the best of our abilities. This can be seen in the form of artists who perform here, all the way to the ingredients in our dishes. If you have not made it in to see what we are all about, you are without a doubt, missing out.
So, come in and let our amazing staff take care of you. We look forward to meeting you! Cheers! Food. Spirits. Music.
"The parking situation around dinner time can be a hassle. However, it is worth the effort.. They take classic comfort food dishes and upscale them to a higher level. For example, they make home made tater tots that come with a trulle aioli and a carrot nest - they are fantastic. I went with my son, and he had a great burger and upgraded to the truffle parmesan fries, which were excellent. I had chicken and waffles, which was a well seasoned and nicely fried boneless breast, served on a sweet potato waffle. The waffle is topped with a cinnamon whisky butter and the dish is served with a Crown Royal syrup and home made hot sauce. This allows you to mix and match sweet and hot as you work your way through the dish. Overall quite excellent."

"We were placed downstairs right next to the door, despite a reservation. It was so incredibly loud, we truly had to scream to have a conversation. The food was good but extremely overpriced. For example I had a side of asparagus for six dollars which included five grilled stalks, which were both scrawny and over cooked. There are too many nice restaurants in Greenville to consider visiting 21 E. for food again. As a bar scene, however, it is probably very fun."

"21 East is one of those restaurants that has all the potential in the world and wastes it. Simple fixes from having a host/ hostess to having a manager that doesn't spend his entire night talking to someone at the bar could definitely help this hidden restaurant that needs good word of mouth to survive in an already overcrowded restaurant scene in downtown. The food wasn't bad but it wasn't anything I would go back for. The service, not only ours but what was witnessed, was untrained and not customer friendly. I mean who says no substitutions ??? Is there really a big cost difference between fries and grits?? Overall I would say maybe this is a good bar but definately not a restaurant I would return to."

"The food was good, a little on the salty side, but very well prepared and tasty. The waitress was attentive and quick. We didn't think for the price the food was a good value and we didn't like not being able to substitute the sides. You are told you have to purchase a different side if you don't want the one it come with. The restaurant is more of a bar and the surroundings are basic. If it's supposed to be a pub the food is too high priced, if it's supposed to be a fancy restaurant it's too basic."

"We had an early reservation and were seated right away. The service was excellent as well as the food. Very quaint restaurant with a good ambiance. The only draw back was they did not offer iced tea."

"This was my third visit and each time the food and service were good. I have had the chicken and waffles twice now. I love the bourbon maple sauce and hot sauces that complement the dish.
My husband has had 3 different items and all of them were good also. This visit he had one of the hamburgers. It is nice to be able to order it medium or medium-rare!
The restaurant is nicely decorated, dark and noisy. Not noisy in a bad sense. The tables are kind of close together and seating is limited so I would suggest reservations, BUT we sat at the bar once for dinner and received great service there too."

"We went on a Friday. The service was fairly slow and not very attentive. Two people in our party ordered burgers, which were terrible. One person ordered a steak. It was okay. The fried chicken and collard greens were excellent. The atmosphere was great. It's a shame the service and food don't stand up to it. We'll probably try it again just to see if it was an off night, but won't order burgers."

"Awesome service, we had the flounder and chicken - both were excellent. The truffle parmesan fries are priced at $9 but the portion is huge - good as an appetizer for four people. Love the upscale modern decor. Wished they would have had a DF on Feb 14 - it was a Thursday night. Other than that, it is a great place. A few more vegetarian itms would have been helpful. Glad to hav 21 East in GVille."

"While small in size, they offered good menu and drink options. And given the location, is a great place to dine before attending the Peace Center, which is just down the street."

"Valentine's Day dinner with wifey! Nice retro-art-deco bar and seating. Couple seated next to us gushed over how good the food was and the shrimp and grits and chicken and waffles did not disappoint! Dessert of pound cake with lemon/berry sauce was out of this world! Service was friendly, micro-brew selection was impressive and dining at the window facing the street gave us a great view of Green-villians coming and going. Love this place and we will be back!"

"Truly a great place in downtown Greenville! I consider myself a foodie and have eaten at many fine establishments across the US and this was definitely a good find. The atmosphere is relaxing and comfortable. I love the exposed brick work and the lighting. Our server was efficient, friendly and helpful.
The food was incredible. We started with appetizer plates of truffled tater tots, spinach & artichoke dip – all were delicious! My entree was creative and flavorful...crispy fried flounder with orange tangy sauce and my husband had the lobster mac and cheese. The lobster was very generous portion (yes real lobster!) The desserts didn't disappoint either...we shared the creme brulee. I forgot to mention the cocktail was very go"

"We waited 45mins for our app to come out. I advised the waitress I could not eat the app due to the sauce, thought it was on the side. She said "I'm sorry" and walked away. Our entrees came out and my steak was way over done and asparagus was COLD. I sent it back only to receive an ok steak and COLD asparagus again! We never had a manager come to our table to apologize, the waitress didn't offer to provide anything else. And, luckily we were not in a hurry because this not so great experience took about 2 hours. 10mins before we were greeted by our server, another 10mins for our wine, 45mins mins for our app, over an hour for dinner and 15-20mins to remake my dinner. We will not return to 21 East, Greenville has too many other options."

"The food and atmoshere were good. But, the resturant porition of 21 East was noisy. The service was slow with the drinks, meal, and check even after the crowds died down. We had a reservation, and still had to wait for 30 minutes to be seated."

"Upon arrival, we needed to add 2 people to our reservation. The host was accommodating in the end, but was out of sorts in dealing with our request (only 1 table was filled at the time - 5:30). Was disappointed that 2 items on the regular menu were unavailable, but the server did inform us in advance of ordering. Several of us ordered from the Restaurant Week menu only to find out when it was time for dessert, that the creme brulee was unavailable until after 7:00 - we were offered no alternatives - you take the other dessert option or nothing.
Overall, I expected a lot more. The food was tasty and the presentation was great. Too bad the service was not impressive."
