Campo 185 is a delicious new destination for savory, rustic Italian dishes that showcase the natural flavors of simple ingredients, served in a casual, energetic atmosphere. The new award-winning Executive Chef, Robert Holt's menu features artisan pizza and pasta, Italian specialties, and a fresh Mozzarella Bar.
Chef Holt, who has cooked and traveled extensively throughout Italy, has over twenty years experience at top-tier Bay Area restaurants including Acquerello, Boulevard and Square One. Most recently, Holt served as executive chef of Marzano in Oakland, where his rustic and robust Italian food and savory pizza won loyal fans and a three-star review from San Francisco Chronicle Critic, Michael Bauer.
Campo 185 is now open for brunch on Saturdays & Sundays from 10:30am-2:30pm. Sip a mimosa while indulging in Panettone "French Toast" with maple syrup, mascarpone whipped cream, roasted rhubarb and local strawberries.
"We went at the end of brunch time and enjoyed a quieter meal. Excellent food and service, as well as a friendly, welcoming atmosphere. I felt special and my family all enjoyed their meal as much as I did."

"Went for Mothers Day Brunch. Arrived 10 minutes prior to our reservation but were sat immediately. We also sat for almost 10 minutes before anyone approached our table. That said, the remainder of our service was scarce at best. The food was very good and we thoroughly enjoyed it. To bad no one cared about the service. Water and a drink for mom would and should have first and foremost. They have lots of clearing staff but they do not work as a team with the servers. They might figure it out."

"I had gone to Campo Pizzeria because I had heard that Sean O'Brien was the chef and I love his food!
The food was just okay and the waiter, although friendly, was asking too frequently if we wanted anything else. For example, he asked me if I wanted another glass of wine when my glass was still half full.
Unfortunately it was a disappointing experience."

"Campo Pizzeria is an awesome new restaurant on the western end of University Avenue in downtown Palo Alto and it has a great selection of food not just pizza although the pizza is awesome. We brought a half dozen of our friends there for a 'picnic' after a long hike and surprised them with the gourmet foods available on the menu. The food and ambience was incredible and everyone had the time of their life. Great new chef Robert Holt came out and greeted us at our table. The mozzarella dishes, the three different pizzas we ordered from a selection of about a dozen, the octopus, salumi platter . . and the deserts . . the best sorbets I have ever tasted anywhere in my whole life and then topped off with the bombolini!"

"Dine at Campo Pizzeria only if your idea of the perfect place for dinner is a day care center. When we dined there on a Saturday evening, there was a horde of two and three years olds running and shrieking through the restaurant and the bar. Asked to see that the children return to their tables, the manager turned away and did nothing, allowing the children to run around for a full half hour. Families with small children will undoubtedly find this atmosphere appealing. But adults looking for a nice place to dine are well advised to look elsewhere."

"Big disappointment. The pizza isn't very good. The crust is tough and toppings pretty tasteless. Other dishes are OK, but bland. Ingredients listed on the menu were difficult to find in the dish. Wouldn't go back."

"This is the second time we've been to the restaurant, and both times the kitchen has messed up - badly. They really need to straighten this out; three strikes and you're done. The wait staff were great; the kitchen needs to get fixed. Also, the pizza is good, but needs to be cooked longer. The crust needs to have some charring."

"Although the food was very good the service was very bad for a new restuarant. Started in the bar with drinks and order two simple appitizers. We waited over twenty minutes for those. Once we got to our table the service wasn't much better. It looked like they only had one waiter on duty so I don't think it was his fault. Order coffee after dinner waited again a bit for the dessert but the coffee never did come."

"Food, although obviously very fresh and well cooked, was so under-seasoned that it was just plain bland....and thus over-priced. Pizza crust was very good. Wine list was obviously carefully chosen and also very good. Servers were not trained properly. People all over were flagging them down for bread, or basics. Guys that were bring food (and water) out were great though."

"We had been looking forward to going to this new place and heard some good things about it. However, once we got to our table and seated it took forever to get our drinks and orders. We were there at 8PM on a Saturday, but there were tables available and it didn't really seem that busy. Our salads were just OK, nothing special. When we finally got our pizza we thought they were kind of bland and realized after, that they were missing the cheese...oh, well guess it saved us extra calories, but did not add to our enjoyment. Don't think we will be recommending this place or going back anytime soon. There is a really great new place for pizza in Redwood City called Vesta, where the service and food are outstanding. We will be going there."

"I have eaten at Campo in Palo Alto twice. On both occasions the food was very good but the service is/was terrible. Forgetting the order, forgetting the cutlery. No eye contact. Not very friendly. Missed selling another bottle of wine to us, we couldn't find him to ask for one, then it was just too late. Not good for your restaurant. service slow in some areas too fast in others. I was very frustrated."

"The pizza and pastas are great. If you are looking for a main course, the actual menu does not reflect what is on line. The night we went there was only one main course offered. Service can be a bit inattentive. It is a child-friendly restaurant and on Friday night it was packed with families with young children (many babies)."

"Fresh Pizza was decent but inconsistent (first one was amazing, second was horribly burnt to the point of not being easy to eat). Service is a real challenge, from wrong wines to long wait times, but there is a silver lining - I've been twice, though, and I think this is more the story of a successful restaurant that overall is good, and will be excellent. In many ways, these are problems of their own success, so I expect they will right-the-ship. I will be back."

"Nice new Italian place in downtown Palo Alto. My date and I both had pizzas, I chose this place partly because they offer gluten free crusts. The food and service were both very good, a nice choice for the price range and good for a first date."

"We liked the option of sharing one of the large salad bowls. The Campo chopped salad was nicely done and provided good-sized portions for three of us.
The Italian Tre Stelle Mozzarella di Bufala Campania as as delicious as its name!"

"The regular pizzas are undercooked. A good Neapolitan has leoparding/black spots on the crust. This didn't.
The gluten free crust was your standard awful tapioca flatbread thing everyone uses (Amici's, etc.). Good gluten free flour exists and you can make great pizzas with it!
Service was good and friendly."

"My second visit. This time, I had the brussels sprouts caesar salad, which was superb. Just enough dressing, and the sprouts were nice and tender. My friend's pepperoni pizza was also delicious, and we both enjoyed the minestrone on such a cold day. I do think the beans in the soup would benefit from more cooking to make them creamier, however."

"This was our first visit but certainly not our last. The burratta and squid appetizers were wonderful. We did have to ask for more toast for the burrata. We shared a pizza and had half pepperoni and half wild mushrooms....the pepperoni was the winner. Specialty cocktails are tasty but very weak or watered down. Atmosphere casual....was hoping for a little more upscale, but it is a nice place for jeans."

"I expected better tasting pizzas for the price that I paid but the pizzas were mediocre. The wait staff told us that they "ran out of lemonade" for the day and we were there at 5 pm. I think that was just very poor planning."

"The menu is very interesting with some fun options (ex mozzarella bar, soft serve ice cream), but sadly the food is just OK. I really wanted it to be good, but was consistently underwhelmed. There are several places with better pizza in Palo Alto and Menlo Park (the new Palo Alto Pizza Company comes to mind!). Maybe they'll come into their own in a while, but for now there's no reason to run out and try Campo."

"Hoping to have a great experience at Campo, but neither the salad or the pizza lived up to our expectations. The lettuce was still damp, so the dressing was not well distributed on the salad. The pizza had little if no cheese, even though we paid extra for mozzarella on the margharita pizza. Disappointing..."

"My first visit to this new restaurant since it was Lavanda. As a dedicated pizza aficionado, I was extremely happy with my brussels sprouts and bacon pie. The crust was crisp, yet also tender and chewy. It had just the right amount of topping so that it was flavorful without flopping over. I'm eager to try more of their pizzas, as well as their brussels sprouts salad. I was here for lunch, and since I devoured the entire 10" pizza, I didn't have room for anything else. Next time!!"

"I was really excited to try this new restaurant in Palo Alto. But, for a $17 pizza, I expect some darn good pizza. Everything we had was just okay. Granted, we didn't order the "signature dishes," but, everything should be stellar on a menu.
Our server was not very good either. While explaining the menu, she said the Frito Misto was much better here than where she worked previously at Fish Market... Fish Market. This is like comparing Reposado to Chevy's. They are in different galaxies when it comes to food quality.
They had an extensive wine list, but didn't mention that they had some really great beers (on tap or at all).
I hope this place finds its groove and good service staff."

"My wife and I always enjoy the two other Bay Area units so we were anxious to try Campo PIzzeria. Here is our first impression (s): 1) No greeting as the front desk. Host was busy attending to his computer. When he did acknowledge us, he didn't ask for our name or whether we had a reservation. We had to announce that we did have a reservation. 2) We were seated at the last table at the service entrance. 3) Bar service was extremely slow in receiving cocktails. It took forever for our waitperson to locate/present a 'wine' list. 4) We asked that our entrees not to be served until we had consumed our cocktails. That was ignored. 5) Manager came by,introduced herself. She is very pleasant 6) Pre-set 'salt & pepper' shakers on the"

"The food at Campo was very tasty, however all three of us found the noise level too high.( We were seated in the far corner at the mirrors.) We did not find a wide enough variety of non-carb offerings. Even though it is Italian, they should have a few salads to offer and a couple of entres' that are not heavily fat laden. We also found our waiter strange. We had to yell to make sure he understood what we wanted and he truly was only polite when we were about to pay. I am afraid it will not be our first choice when going into the palo alto area."

"Seems like they are still working out early glitches. Pizza was tasty but soggy. Mozzarella bar was more like a salad, not what we envisioned. We were there before 6pm and the restaurant was just starting to fill up, but service was slow and erratic-waiter never offered cheese for pizza and was late providing their dish of peppers, oregano and salt"

"After dining at sister restaurant Osterria Coppa in San Mateo and loving it, we eagerly anticipated Paul and Julie Shenkman's newest effort in Palo Alto, a lot closer to home. I will cut them some slack since the operation is nary a month old, so things like the main course being brought out while we were still feasting on our appetizers can be excused as long as they get that kink out at subsequent visits. The ambience fits in well with the downtown Palo Alto University Ave scene and the pizza is some of the best around (still a bit below the sister restaurant). The salads and pastas are well done and the staff is super-friendly. Due to proximity we will be back often, but are not ready to delete Osterria Coppa from our GPS"
