The Smith is a casual American Brasserie with three upbeat locations in New York City: The Smith East Village, The Smith Midtown and The Smith Lincoln Center. "We were in the back room which we were told was quieter than the front room. However, alhough it was not full the noise was deafening. I will most likely return, but not until it is nice enough to eat outside at night."

"Restaurant was really enjoyable. Menu had something for every taste. Prices were fair. Only complaint was the noise level. Eating outside was a better choice if you wanted to hear yourself and others at your table talk. Nice to have it in the neighborhood."

"The restaurant is definitely on the loud side, but in a good way. The atmosphere gets you amped up, so that you can sit in a dark theater for a couple of hours. There are some very good and different items on the menu. Lots of veggies, including the tempura string beans (yum!). I also personally love The Smith's signature subway tile decor"

"I had the trout and my wife had the salmon. Both dishes finely done;the salmon soft, moist, flaky and the trout lightly covered with a delicious crust. The grits were delicious: had well balanced flavor of cheese and jalapeno but perhaps could have had more spice heat. The dessert, stickt toffee pudding: delicious! And the service? Great!"

"This place is awesome. All three establishments are nice. Had a Mother's Day dinner here for 4 and we had a great time. The potato chips+blue cheese for appetizer was delicious. The portions are big for dinner entrees. I had the Mussels which were fantastic! The black pasta + shrimp was good also. My mom had a wonderful time and thought the food was delicious."

"The food is good, the service pleasant and the location is great, but. the noise level was so deafening that we skipped dessert and coffee because we just had to get out of there. I know dozens of people who, like us, eat out regularly near Lincoln Center, but can't think of any who would put up with the racket. How does the staff stand it day after day?"

"we had brunch here a few weeks ago and enjoyed it, then decided to bring out of town guests for dinner. The lobster roll at $32 was the meat from a one and a quarter pound lobster as the waiter claimed, it was a small portion on a hot dog roll with potato chips. for $32 i expected much more. the other entrees were ok not great. dessert was good. I would rather try another place than go back again."

"Even a smoke alarm couldn't budge the happy patrons at Smith-Lincoln Center. With the wide open doors looking out on onto the street scene of Broadway and Lincoln Center, steaks that melt in your mouth and attentive service, it's no wonder we paid no heed to the alarm blaring from the kitchen. What's a little smoke when the steaks are grilled perfectly and atmosphere is so fun? (Rachel, our fine server, comped us a drink to ease the pain of the extra wait time.) The only grumble, from a male, was that steak frites were served instead of baked potato. Great place to go pre-theatre."

"I would recommend The Smith at Lincoln Center to a friend only if that friend was planning to go alone, or it it were nice enough to eat outdoors (quieter). I would not suggest it to entertain people we've not seen for a while because it is too noisy to hold a decent conversation. Maybe it is designed for those who would rather use electronic devises, or have no contact with others."

"The noise level was not condusive at all to having any sort of conversation other than saying, "what did you say?" If you are used to going to places where the noise is part of the scene, then enjoy. Other than that, the menu was varied so there is something for everyone and what we ate would be considered decent, though nothing to remember. Good beer list either draft or by the bottle and well priced. Would return only to have a drink at the bar."

"Smith usually comes through. The service was outstanding as usual. The only problem was the prime rib - a bit too gristly. However the sauce gave it a perky flavor. "It goes without saying that the food is ridiculously great here, esp the mussels, beer battered string beans, and chips & cheese amazingness. But the service is also really nice. Not stellar in the fact that i had to ask a few times for a water glass and that they threw out the burger i asked to bring home. BUT the manager made things right by offering to make the burger AGAIN for me to take and then offering me free (delicious) cookies when i declined the burger. Overall - fabulous, will go back! GO THERE!"

"I love this place. I first went there for brunch with a friend and I fell in love with the restaurant on the spot. The food is absolutely delicious and they have the best sticky toffee pudding in New York! The service is friendly and generous!!
A must try are the deviled eggs, and the fondue chips...but so far I had not gotten a single item I had not loved!
Last time I was there I was celebrating my birthday with a group of 7 and they made us feel at home from the first moment. I highly recommend it!"

"I love this place which is an excellent addition to the neighborhood!! The vibe is cool, food is delicious and service is a 10. It is a great place to go and kick back with friends for brunch, lunch or dinner. I am obsessed with their salad and fish when I am being good. And they have killer fries and hot potato chips when I am being bad.
It is also very kid friendly..they have room for strollers, plently of high chairs, and will serve you quickly if you need to be in and out.

"I had to go to have my absolute favorite Roasted Tomato Soup, and my friend and I had a great corner table outside - the weather cooperated, and so did everything else! My friend had the Oyster sliders (she gave me one) and they were sensational! Also, if I could have your french fries more often, I would be in heaven - perfection!"

"This restaurant is huge and very poorly managed, i guess because of the location they assume that most of their customers are tourists and therefore they do not care, very noisy , the service is good but the food is really poor , clean cuisine , no taste whatsoever

"After reading some of the on-line reviews, I was expecting to not be able to hear myself think. Yet the noise level was perfectly moderate (we sat in the front section), atmosphere lively yet pleasant, food quite good across our party of four, and service efficient and considerate of our 8:00 p.m. Lincoln Center curtain time. We will be back for sure."

"This is a busy spot convenient to Lincoln Centre serving salads, burgers, as well as dinners so it is good for groups. But is it noisy. Fortunately our party of four was seated in an alcove which reduced the noise level. The burger was good and an entrée salad was very tasty. The mussels were a bit spicy and the marinara sauce on pasta was too spicy and was only partially eaten. The waiter removed that item from our bill. The French fries and chocolate chip cookies were superb. Good choice for a light meal before a performance at Lincoln Center.,"

"I dine out two or three times weekly. This restaurant deserves the 2013 worst new restaurant of the year award.
1. Rude "welcome" by the hostess
2. Warm white wine, no ice buckets (even when requested
3. appetizers: mushy calamari supposed to be "crispy;" salmon tartare with zero taste
4. main courses: tough, tiny, tasteless mussels (with limp frites); lamb shank floating in glutinous gravy and mash--looked like slop
5. OVER-THE-TOP NOISE LEVEL enhanced by unnecessary thumping music
6. nice waiter who seemed very unhappy

"Celebrated my 50th bday which was a Thursday after 8:30. The place was full. Still, the service and attention was exceptional. The food was extremely good. The decor is attractive. The only problem is the noise level: we had to yell to be heard at our table of five. We were in the back room so not sure if the front room is much better. If you don't like loud spaces then this is definitely a deal breaker. Which is too bad because otherwise I would have given it 5 stars overall."

"Nothing wrong with the food or beverages at The Smith LC. It is always a pleasure to sit outside on what passes for a Grande Boulevard in Manhattan and enjoy the passing parade. I find the noise level inside the restaurant unbearable. Must be getting old."
